Art pop up Friday afternoon was a real surprise. We found this while walking around downtown . Vendors galore. They told us to visit art gallery. Upon arriving the gallery found local artists displayed, wine tasting and cheese boards. There are scads of shops ,and restaurants. We were told the pop ups are starting back up first Friday of the month. Photo is from one of the shops we went to on Saturday.

This park is getting 5 stars, but it's certainly not because of the beautiful River. April 2021, zero water in the River.

but this is a beautiful green space with some nice picnic tables and public bathrooms. There are some swings for the kids, and for adults. Great place to have a family get-together.

The beauty of the trees and rivers will
Almost steal your heart, but there is trash on the ground everywhere, and the trash bins are overflowing.

Awful. A group DJ there every Friday night called '4 U & I', but they are marijuana smokers (and smoking while DJing), drink-driving to and from the event, and perving on teen girls there. They're also heavy drinkers and drinking wine on the job.

The City has spent a lot of tax payer money creating a very pleasant surrounding for homeless people and a hangout for Bakersfield's seedy underbelly. Definitely not somewhere you'd want to take family or have a picnic or, for that matter, get out of your locked car. Nice try, poorly executed and a pitifully abandoned plan.

Great Bakersfield park.
Plenty of grassy areas in sun and shade with 2 ponds. There are plenty of shaded picnic areas with BBQ grills.
Bike trail path runs parallel to Kern River.
I came to this park specifically for my dog.
He enjoyed several dips in the refreshing Kern River.
There is plenty of free parking.
Playground for kids.

The Park at River Walk is one of the newer parks in the system and it is also one of the larger ones with a variety of amenities. Popular park for those on the west side of town, it's a good place to take a run or relax under some shady trees.

It was ok. a very small park, but it should probably be more like a greenbelt. When I went there, there were a lot of people fishing, excercising (walk/jog) and a few people just spending some family time. The Park is connected to paths for bikes/jogs/walks to more commercial areas (one way) or residential areas (other way). A big plaza is connected to the park which makes it convenient if people want to buy things there, too (may be a + or a -). I think that it has an odd placement for an outdoor theatre (funded by Brighthouse--Comcast alternative for the area). There is free wifi (with password---sadness). I know that on Apr. 18, 2015, the park will be hosting a March of Dimes walk for a few hours, so the community is using it for some events. So if your shopping and looking a nature break... it makes a quaint stop to "enjoy nature."

This is one of the nicer parks in Bakersfield. There is lots of parking, trees for shade, lots of picnic tables scattered around, water features (although when I was there, the little creek was dry and there was lots of litter in it), and more. I went solo, did a bit of exploring, and just had a much-needed respite from the noise of everyday life. I was there on a weekday morning so it was not crowded but I'm sure it gets a lot of use on the weekends.

This park is a great place to hold a party, go for short walks, or hang out during the cooler season, but bicyclists go very fast on bike path, so it is not a place for toddlers. Also, while the lake is beautiful, children should be watched at all times due to drowning dangers.
