Narrow beach but peaceful and clean
We visited this cliff beach on 24 Nov 2023. This is a white sand beach located at shores of Arabian sea in Vypin, Kochi. Ambience - (9/10) Its ambience is calm, serene and beautiful with long stretch of white sand. Safety - (8/10) Though beach is not very steep but waves are supposed to be rough here. Life guards are available on main beach but if you skirt around too far there is no one. Hence it is recommended to remain in main beach only if you are looking to go to slightly deep waters. Parking - (9/10) Adequate parking is available and is manned by female staff. prices are also nominal. Recommend to use this parking for safety of your vehicle and to promote local tourism industry. Cleanliness: (10/10) It is one of the most clean beaches I have visited. There is no trace of any polythene or any other garbage on the beach with staff regularly cleaning it. Activity: (7/10) Width of beach is very thin thus not much activity is possible even playing with flying disc may not be that much fun. Other activities are also limited, however, on nearby beaches adventure activities are available. Few cafe and local shops are just across the road on the beach. Value for Money : (9/10) If you are looking for a calm, serene, mystical place on beachfront this should be among top recommendations.

    Ok pleasant enough
It's a narrow beach but good water and waves not too rough but probably not suitable for young kids. The big problem is lack of infrastructure. Unlike Goa or Kovalam there are no resorts or restaurants actually on the beach. They are all across a road. It's hard to get a beer although there are a couple of places. There are a lack of moderate places to stay. It's either expensive resorts or home stays.same with restaurants although the Lilliput is good and recommended. Probably good for a night or two to break a journey but not for a long stay.

    Cherai Beach
Cherai Beach is relatively small but offers a peaceful atmosphere, particularly in the early morning when crowds are minimal. It's a great spot for water activities and strolls. The beach entrance is well-maintained, thanks to the diligent efforts of the cleaning staff. While food options are limited, local vendors offer tasty treats like fried bananas and spicy fried chillies. The beach offers ample parking right by the shore, making it convenient for visitors. Access is easy via the adjacent road, although parts of the beach may require a bit of climbing due to barriers separating it from the road. Evenings tend to be busier, with visitors arriving by bus to enjoy the sunset and water activities. Lifeguards are present on the main beach, but caution is advised for those venturing further into the water. Cherai Beach is approximately 25 km from downtown Kochi and 20 km from Cochin International Airport. Spanning about 10 km along the coast, it's known for its gentle tides and occasional dolphin sightings. The beach also offers a unique view where the backwaters meet the sea.

Nice beach but not advisable for swimming
Cherai Beach is a small beach about 25 kms from Cochin International Airport. Evenings and holidays are generally crowded, especially during the sunset time. Swimming is not advised as there are undercurrents and it’s not safe. There are few resorts and restaurants by the beach side. The restaurants are good for the sea food served. I don’t recommend this place as a beach destination as the very purpose of being in a beach i.e. swimming is not safe here and is no where near the beaches of Goa or Kerala beaches like Kovalam or Varkala. But, it’s good for a day’s outing for the views and the scenic background.

I haven't been to any beach before getting my 1st beach experience at Cherai. I came to Kerala for my honeymoon and got to know about cherai beach from my wife. We went their and had a really amazing time. Beach is very beautiful and one can enjoy the sunset. The best time to visit this beach is after 4PM. There are multiple restaurants available just opposite to the beach.

The beach is good. It's nightmare for old aged to reach the waters. There are no steps or ramp for differently abled. They have to pass through the uneven rocks.

Usually Kerala used to shows the path for others but Tamilnadu have shown the way this time in Marina beach. It's high time that not only Kerala every government to have ramp for differently abled or old aged to access the sea water.

Big disappointment. Sand with quite a lot of dark soil showing through...always spoils the look. I was hoping to swim but really didn't trust the sea...looked quite fierce. Very few people about, perhaps because very windy day. Long way to go (on bus, good services)for little benefit.
