This was a great tour full of local history and interesting facts. I didn't know much about Incan history when I arrived but after I had learned a lot. Even if you're not a history buff, it is interesting learning about the farming and engineering feats of the Incans. My guide was Jose Eladio and he knew A LOT. He was able to answer all my questions. And I always have A LOT. 😂. I put him in my picture so others can enjoy his expertise.

I did not know that it will be so easy to see villagers from trib is so easy in here.
You can see ruin, daily life, and markets even learning how to wave here.
Villagers are everywhere in the market who are trying to sell traditional handmade textiles and souvenirs. I should bring more cash and shop more here.
After I heard how difficult the women life are. I regret immediately.
A lovely souvenirs only cost USD 3-5.
Pls kindly help the committee. If you missed the chance here , you can still find many elderly women carry a Alpaca walking around in Cusco city who just want to earn one or two USD. Please help those old and helpless women if you have a chance to. May God bless you for your kindness.

Arrived late after a day trip trough the sacred valley, - and the church was closed! No explanation why. In front of the church, a huge plaza with the sunday market. A lot of ladies with there own handicraft/needlework laid on a blanket - only wool products , alpaca wool. The guide told us that Chinchero was well known for high quality products. The lady on my side was very much interested in some sweaters, - I found a restaurant nearby for some refreshment. :)

Town and ruins are fine but you go for the chapel. We were told it’s open daily but it’s only open on Sundays currently so we missed it.

A small colonial church located in the heart of Chinchero near the famous market. It is easy to get here from Cuzco with local transportation or some organized tour.

The very village of Chinchero, where Iglesia Colonial was erected, is located around 30 km to the north-west of Cuzco at altitude of 3762 meters. It is quite high, therefore, some people may have suffer from high altitude sickness. The first signs of it (dizziness, headache, nausea, shortness of breath) are not dangerous, and usually disappears after acclimatisation, but in case of acute symptoms (confusion, vomiting, cough that produce frothy, pink or white substance, severe headache, shortness of breath even at rest) it is recommended to descent as quickly as possible and contact doctors as it may develop into pulmonary or cerebral edema which can be life threatening. Mountains are beautiful, yet dangerous, so better to be aware of it. But let's back to historical places and stuff. Colonial church in Chinchero, previously called "Nuestra Senora de Monserrat" (Our Lady of Monserrat), was founded by Viceroy of Toledo in 1572. Christian temple was built over Inca walled enclosure erected there on order of Inca Tupac Yupanqui. Construction of the church ended in year 1607. Although, it doesn't looks impressive from the outside, its interior is highly decorated. Inside of this single nave church can be found richly decorated, gilded Baroque altars and sculptures. Some of them, like those of San Isidoro and Tolentino Child, are fine examples of Andean syncretism. Walls of the church are covered with murals, and its wooden ceiling is also painted. Unfortunately, taking photos inside of the church is prohibited. Because church is located in the Chinchero Archaeological Site you'll have to buy ticket for the site first, and then separate one for the church itself (which is pretty cheap, and costs 5 soles only). Below the church can be found remains of old Inca structures, terraces and sacred places. Immediately next to the church there are old bell tower, mansion of Mateo Pumaccahua and small square where one can purchase traditional, colourful local textiles. To the south and east of the church there's small old Spanish town with its narrow, steep streets. Weather can be capricious, typical for mountains though, so it's good to have some light waterproof poncho in the bag. Getting there from Cuzco is quite easy. There are some local buses and minibuses going there. Even going by taxi wouldn't be extremely expensive (£ 15 to £20). Again, if somebody won't waste ones time on searching for right bus and minibus stops can simply contact one of many tour agencies. Usually, such a daily tour covers three to four historical sites. However, obvious disadvantage of tour agencies is time schedule. Simply you can't stay in one place as long as you wish. It is also possible to rent a car what can give one needed flexibility and independence. Weather on day of my visit was of typical mixture of cloudy one with occasional sudden rainfalls, and fine sunny and hot. Mountains... There weren't many tourists either. Looks like this place is not very popular.

We made this visit before going to Machu Picchu and I really enjoyed seeing the ornaments and decoration that it has inside the very beautiful churches.

A beautiful adobe church sits surrounded by terraces. Apparently the soil here is very fertile and they produce lots of potatoes.

For such a small town this is a very well preserved and decorated church. That said by the time we got here we had seen so many that we were weary of churches and because there is less gold it failed to energise us. Compared to other churches it's more in its original condition. However, there is not a lot else to do so take a few minutes to pop in and make a donation.

Visiting this high ruin/church was quite an eye opener. The church build right on top of the Inca Temple made me think. I admire the people in their acceptance of this invasion and wondered what made the men of old do such a thing. We can only wonder.

I believe you can, but the weekends might be busier with tour groups, especially at midday.
