wonderful to go for 4 days! a little high in altitude but not enough to be short of breath.
A walkable and vibrant city.
follow trip advisor for places to eat. most of them are a block from the square. the restaurants are not elegant but comfortable. good service and clean.
tours can be purchased on the side of the square. ventanillas de otuzco a must and the haciendas are fun. Apollonia chappel very interesting and totally walkable from plaza eventhough we took a taxi to the top and walked down. there are also a few good markets on the way down as you get closer to the plaza.
1 hr and 5 minute flight in latam.

Beautiful city
Feb 2018 • Couples
This beautiful city in very high altitude in Andes, northern most city of Peru. Cold weather and Rain. A lot of churches and cathedrals, mountain all around the city, and you need to come on February, because it’s a celebration and carnaval of this city.

We took a walk up here and it was lovely. The views from outside of the Cathedral doors are awesome and well worth the climb up the stairs!

A person can appreciate the hard work that went into this place. The stone; jointed together is amazing. Workmanship with paintings -the object is not described.

Not much there, its a big nave and so spangles. It is far more interesting from the outside, however iof it is raining and the door is open ... LP gives opening times.

Rebuilt in the 1930/40's

This is not a beautiful church. It was rebuilt in the 30/40's and other than a large gold plated altar it doesn't look very interesting. The outside is highly decorated. I do prefer the Belen church for its interior magnificence.

Simple but tasteful
Jan 2016 • Couples
I have visted several cathedrals throughout the Americas and Europe. This one does not stand out, however, it is a simple and tasteful cathedral. It appears that it has been upgraded and modernized a bit as the paintings and some of the walls do not have an old charm appeal. It is still a nice place to visit.

Amazing and majestic. Could never go inside but outside was very outstanding. If you are Catholic you are going to enjoy even more.

It doesn't open often!

We were staying next to the cathedral and, most days, it was locked up. We did manage to vist twice, once during a normal service - very dark inside and nothing really to see. The second time was at the end of a funeral - the lights were on a this time. it it's closed when you are in cajamarca don't worry - your not missing much.
