This is the border between England and our nearest neighbours. They are at times noisy especially on the day of the match but in this desolate area no such dangers. A good climb from both sides with car parks on both sides. A van was also selling the usual items- ice cream I doubt was a big seller as on this visit it was windy (usually) and wet (frequently). There are border stones which my dogs greatly appreciated given a lack of trees. Lively spot to break off the journey for 15 mins or so. No toilets.

This place is effectively the actual border between England and Scotland with road entry signs and Flags to denote the same. You can pull in and avail yourself from a Mobile Snack van which dispenses hot and cold drinks and snacks. But the key reason to stop is to admire the views which on a fine or clear day are spectacular and beautiful. The area is both hilly and remote.

Beautiful countryside views over Scotland 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 side if a clear day. Little van with take away there to which was nice.

Great place to stop for a few minutes. It's very symbolical as the border between England and Scotland. Scottish flag at one side of the road, English flag at the other side! The view is really lovely in all the directions in good weather.

It is good place to stop for a couple of minutes. First of all, it is quite symbolical as the border between England and Scotland. Second of all, the view is really nice in all the directions, espiacially when the weather is good.

Carter Bar is well worth the stop for travellers on this stretch of the A68.

Carter Bar marks the point along the A68 (Edinburgh - Newcastle upon Tyne, via Jedburgh road) at which the traveller crosses the Anglo-Scottish border. It's a great spot, as lay-bys go. It was refreshingly clean of rubbish, or at least it was when my partner and I visited early on this past Sunday morning. In summer it can get busy, and a bagpiper plays people over the crossing. Passports not required.

I'd love the chance to visit Carter Bar again in the future.

Layby, with a viewpoint over the Scottish- English border. Great views of the Cheviot hills and the unspoilt countryside.

We pulled in to the small car park to admire the views despite it being misty and cloudy. Its right on the border between scotland and england, and so high you can see for miles.

Great views over Scotland 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 and England 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 well worth stopping to take them in. (it's blustery winds even in summer, so take a coat you might need it)
