Eskişehir is a small university town with an incredible Mayor who has literally transformed this boring town into a vibrant and exciting place full of cultural activities. The archeological Museum was a totally unexpected surprise! Rebuilt and restored some years ago, it houses beautiful objects from the Phrygians and other civilisations, all very well presented and very children friendly, as there are several gimmicks for children to play with while learning about the past. A visit here is definitely a must!

I have been here three times with friends. The halls are arranged for maximum space giving the visitor time to absorb each artefact. There is lots of information in English. The overall modern design echoes a classical pavillion. My favourite exhibits are the ancient mosaic tiled floors which are displayed vertically. There is a nice café adjoining as well. The closest tram station is Stadium on lines 3 and 4, a 6-minute walk away, or there are buses along the boulevarde in front. Entry was 6 lira for adults, very cheap. The museum is open at 8am every day but opens later (1pm) on some religious holidays. There is an air force war cemetery, worth a short visit, halfway to the tram.

I enjoyed my visit to this museum. Although it is not vast in size, it has a lot of great pieces. I especially enjoyed being able to see examples from the various Roman sites in Eskisehir Province.
