My favorite Greek beach, I have many memories here, and even if it has become a bit gentrified, it remains a pearl. My advice is to go there in the middle of the week because it is more comfortable, in fact the deckchairs are too close to each other at the weekend, at least in the Utopia beach. For the rest, as in almost all of the Peloponnese, everything is free, you only pay for the compulsory drink, 4 euros per person. Furthermore, top service, quick and attentive, you can have lunch or an aperitif half a meter from the sea. Spectacular sea with various shades of blue, always clean. Super recommended, but not on weekends

Great and beautiful beach. Plenty of spots to put your stuff down and we got there early in the morning and was able to claim 2 lounge chairs and an umbrella. It was said it was 5 euros to rent but none of the workers who walks by constantly asked us to pay and I even asked who/where to pay to rent. The water was shallow, warm and clear!

This beach can be accessed by car, or you can take the bus from Nafplio,
2€/ person, or a taxi from Nafplio at a cost of 15€.

There have been changes since summer 2023. Now there are only 2 places that rent sunbeds, the cost at both of them is 15€, 2 beds, 1 umbrella.
There is also plenty of free space, for those who choose to bring their own umbrella & chairs.

There is a water sports business “Nafplio Water Sports” that offers many choices, for all ages.
In terms of cost, the least expensive option is the inflatable castle section, 15€ for 1 hour or 25€ for the whole day.
Note that the guy who owns the motorboat that takes people around on the inflatables such as the banana, or sofa etc, tends to drive too fast and dangerously.
He is also really quite rude to tourists. Furthermore, he caused serious injury to a tourist last summer, who was thrown off during the banana boat ride, due to his dangerous manoeuvres.
We therefore didn’t trust to use any of his services.
We dealt instead with a lovely, polite, English speaking young lady named Anastasia, for the inflatable castle section.

There are bathrooms and outdoor showers available next to the large resto/bar, which is located in front of the large inflatable castle. Food is served only until 6 pm.
There is a bar area, where cocktails are NOT served, however you can get bottled water, soft drinks, ice cream, etc…

The beach is quite long, the sea bed is quite sandy, however it’s rocky along the water’s edge.

By the way, stay for the sunset over the sea, beautiful!

Sandy beach rather nice, with beaches not too present (left and right) leaving plenty of room for those who wish to be quiet. The sun sets very late, which avoids very hot hours. The palm trees in the pictures are still far away... not thinking about putting your towel in and going into the water.

Beautiful beach but Ammos seats charges 15 euros per two with umbrella and the Greeks only 10 euros. It is not true that if you get a drink the seats are free (not all places sell drinks). The sea is clean and you can’t hear music in the far right area.

Karathona is a big, sandy beach (only a few pebbles in the crystal clear water) offering free areas as well as a well organized zone with sun beds and umbrellas. Free parking, camping site, toilets, places to buy food and drinks. A fine beach for kids.

We walked from Nafplio (Arvanitia Beach) to Karathona and back again before 9 AM. Temperature was pleasant, and the path between the two beaches is easy, quiet and extremely beautiful. 45 minutes walk each way.

Karathonas is a huge bay and beach some 10-15 min drive south of Nafplio (direction after the Palamidi fortress turn).
There're plenty of free parking places and the beach has free and paying parts which have sunbeds and umbrellas.
The water is very clean, but very shallow for long which I didn't like that much.

A one-day trip with our school (Public), an entire beach and not even a sign about the toxic algae it has. Unacceptable!!! So many children entered the sea and many came out scarred and in pain. Some went to the hospital. This beach is not for swimming.

After a tour of the surrounding beaches, we concluded that Karathona is the best beach in the area! Sand everywhere, shallow water, endless with space to sit with just your mat or if you are lucky shade from natural trees but also organized with sunbeds, coffee and food. Easy parking also and disabled access. Prefer the right side from the Utopia shop onwards.

Wonderful sandy beach just on the other side of Nafplio. View of the Palamidi; sunbeds, umbrellas and cafe service available. If staying all day, get cabana bed; umbrella's do not provide much shade.
