Big, quiet sandy beach! A little isolated, but if you like this, there are no problems! Some big rocks in the water, but you can be avoid. You can take the boat to Preveli from here. You will need a car to go in another places, because here........ you will be bored !
A place to spend yur holidays in quiet!

Fab beach with 3 lovely tavernas near by serving amazing food. Lovely sandy beach and a pleasure to walk into the beautiful blue sea without encountering huge rocks.

Spacious beach with a couple of rows of sunbeds, but never too crowded. Sandy, and shallow water close to the shore. Ideal for relaxation and just swimming. The only thing to keep in mine: Check windspeed before going because anything above bf4 may spoil your experience.

We set off to Matala beach , but was extremely windy when we got there from Heraklion , so we drove another 70 km to reach Damnoni, and boy was it worth it . A long beach , not crowded at all , a few palm trees, lovely chic tavers with trees for lunch or dinner , sunbeds set 6 euro, and the water , unlike other 5-6 Souther Crete beaches was just perfect , only a bit of waves, you didn't want to get out of the water. Matala in comparison is super commercial and small, packed with people, was so glad to have chaged. Make sure to eat at Damnoni Taverna for one of the best places in Crete!

Drove to Damnoni beach from Rethymnon a few days ago. The drive was interesting and we stopped at a layby to admire the view of the gorge. Didn't stay out of the car for long though as it was very windy.

Arrived and parked up in a grassy area but it was a struggle to even open the car door as the wind was so strong. Still, thought that we would chance it anyway in case it would improve later on, so walked the short distance to the beach. The sand is very coarse with small stones. Water is clear (looked blue) and quite shallow. Plenty of sunbeds but none were occupied. I can see why.

The strong wind was picking up the sand and blasting exposed skin. It was painful. Saw an adjacent beach separated by a hill which looked more sheltered so decided to investigate. Though before we reached the top of the hill the gusts were so powerful that we had no choice but to turn back around. It was dangerous as there's a big drop to the side - our 6 year old boy was struggling to stay on his feet as he was being buffeted around.

Walked back to the car and then drove to Spili where we spent a couple of hours. Had a chat with a waiter in the cafe where we stopped for lunch, and he mentioned that the weather had been unusual as it's not normally this windy.

In hindsight I should have checked the forecast (particularly wind speed) beforehadnd but didn't think it would be an issue as I had heard that the south coast is generally calm. Gutted as the beach does look nice and it would have been brilliant otherwise. Instead, we ended up wasting much valuable holiday time (45 minutes each way from Rethymnon).

A bit stoney but beds at far end away from bars and restaurants good and cheap. Sea lovely and warm. Good rocky area for snorkeling.

We stayed at Hapimag Damnoni Resort, the beach is clean and quiet. People could easily do some water sport or activities.

All the amenities you could want. Excellent for walking. Unfortunately it was very windy when we were there, so couldn't enjoy it fully.
