Beautiful environment but experience ruined at boat rental
Aug 2020 • Family
The environment is beautiful and I can highly recommend it. If you go by car, you will be approached to pay a small fee for parking there.

Due to Corona the swimming area is reservation only. So we opted to rent a boat. This was a really bad decision mainly due to the person staffing this. With no information we joined the line that did not move in the full sun. While a lot of boats where docked no movement from the one staff just sitting in a chair at the dock. After waiting quite a bit we noticed only when a boat came back in a new group was allowed. But no indication how this worked. As the line grew and grew nothing from the staff guy. At some point one person in line broke the line and moved onto the dock to talk to him. He told them the next group could expect to get a boat in 30+ minutes and he sat back down again and played with his phone again. Not sharing this information with the large line (many with small kids) in the full sun. That fewer boats due to Corona where allowed I can understand (the lake was anything but overcrowded however), but this guys inaction to give any information. Tell people to perhaps try later.. that was really a bad experience. We left to one of the other lakes (maar) where boat and swimming was no issue just 10min further along from this one and staff was friendly and helpful.

Swimming
Aug 2019 • Family
Beautiful maar. Can walk around it and lots of walks in all different directions. Family went to the lido area. Few euro to get in. I walked the dog as she wasn’t allowed into bathing area. Nice grassy area for them. Massive diving boards- they jumped off the 7.5 m. I noticed a few people swimming in another area of lake for free.

Amazing outdoor swimming!
Aug 2018
We came here every day during a visit to Daun in August.
It only costs a couple of euros and you have access to changing rooms, lockers and showers.
A fantastic experience and plenty of space to swim even when busy

A fine walk
Aug 2017 • Couples
A nice place to visit, a lake as a result of volvanic activity gives you a good walk around the lake with some interesting views. Nearby is a good cafe to rest and eat your lunch

See three maars in one place!
Apr 2017 • Family
Beautiful area in rural countryside. Great views and surrounded by other geologic attractions. Great place for a geology nut.

Excellent hiking trails
Nov 2016 • Couples
This lake is the smallest one out of 3 volcano maars close to each other, but the nicest to walk around. Especially in fall it is very exciting when the trees are showing all kinds of colors and let you look through them to the water. The trails could be better signed out, but logically if you keep on climbing, you automatically arrive to the top of the Mauseberg at 561 meter. Sometimes it can get steep, but all trails are well maintained which makes it not difficult for walking. You get a nice view over the whole region, on top of the belvedere "Dronketurm"; more than 100 year old and 43 steps on a narrow spiral stair. The other 2 maars are also nice and can be combined in 1 hiking tour for about 10 km. You can also reach the other 2 maars by car where parkingspace is available.

Even in winter an enjoyable walk round the Maar
Feb 2016 • Couples
There are several maars close to Daun, and all of them vary in size they are small enough to completely walk round in an hour or more. In winter chose a sunny day, so you get the benefit of the sun falling on the bare trees from low in the sky and creating different shadows. The walking paths are easy and though we both have difficulty whiking now-a-days a good fairly flat walk is very enjoyable.

My favorite place in Germany
Jul 2015 • Friends
When I was a teenager I took part in a youth exchange program and went to Daun every other year for 8 years. One of the places we always went on free sunny days was Gemuendener Maar. You pay peanuts to get in and you can spend the whole day swimming, sunbathing, jumping off the diving boards and peddling round the lake on the pedalos you can rent for about 2 euros.
It's perfect for just about anyone, and if you don't want a lazy day there are several trails around the 3 volcanic lakes to hike or ride your bike around. You can also buy hot food, drinks and ice cream from the restaurant and their chips are amazing- the kind you eat from a cardboard tray with a little plastic fork.
If you are staying in or around Daun GO HERE! I cannot recommend it more. Take you friends, your kids, your lovers- whoever- and just chill.

Spectacular scenery
Jan 2013 • Friends
We went in the winter and everything was covered in snow, the scenery was spectacular. The volcanos were covered in ice it looked magical. Ie also been here in the summer and again, it was beautiful but totally different. Lots of good walking in either weather. Missed this autumn but would love to go back in the autumn to see how different it all looks again. A worthwhile trip.

beautiful nature walks
Dec 2012 • Family
These lakes are formed in vulcanic craters. You can walk around them and go on top of the largest vulcanic mountain. Beautiful views there! There is also a tower on top of the mountain where you can see Cologne, Trier etc...
Ideal for a picnic with a view.
