Cable car into the valley

Cable car into the valley - beautiful. This overcrowded place demands hiking shoes and wind stoppers.

Fantastic mountain setting
Aug 2018 • Couples
Fantastic mountain setting to be reached by gondola. We stayed for a weeding at the Sonneaim that offers accommodation and food. Expect price to reflect such premium locations. Toilet and showers are in common with the other rooms.

An absolute must whatever the weather
May 2019
We would have liked to have tramped up Kampenwand - takes a number of hours from the valley floor, but took the easy option of going up the cable car. Amazing views. However, May has been a lot of rain and snow and any opportunity to do anything other than walk from the cable car to the Restaurant SonnenAlm was out of the question. Fully snowed up and we were told too dangerous to attempt. But the views. Magnificent.

Winter Dream on top of the Mountain
Dec 2018 • Family
Superb place to visit when you have no snow in the valley but need to get a snow fix. There was plenty of powder snow on the mountain and some brave souls even decided to go skiing. The restaurant on the mountain provided great relief with hot chocolate. It can be rather chilly compared to the valley below so wear appropriate clothing. The cable car is fantastc. Keep your camera on standby as the view is stunning.

Fantastic place for walks and hill climbing.
We visit Kampenwand with our dog. We walked around 3 hours. It’s brilliant to climb this hill.

I need to come back here!
Jun 2018 • Friends
My cousin and I did a VERY fast trip here after visiting Schloss Herrenchiemsee. We had barely an hour to go up the cable car, but the views were spectacular! We really had to move quickly to hike up part of the alp, but the experience was one I will never forget! The cows just add to the atmosphere.

Great Hiking Destination
Jul 2017 • Family
I visited Kampenwand with my wife and my12 year old son to follow a hiking route we found online. We took the cable car up and followed a loop around the summit with a side trip to the summit itself. Although the route was a bit more strenuous than the description led us to believe, it was quite doable. The views were fantastic all around. We stopped for lunch at Steinlingalm which was quite nice and reasonably priced. This is much more civilized hiking than we are used to in the White Mountains of New Hampshire. We hiked for a total of 6.85 km which took about half a day including the ride up and down.

Great mountain experience
Jun 2017 • Family
This was my third trip up the Kampenwand mountain by cable car and it did not disappoint. It is just wonderful to be high up in the foothills to the Alps. The weather was not perfect, but we greatly enjoyed the views of Chiemsee and the towns around it--including Aschau. This is a bird's eye view of the most scenic part of Germany. Also if you go in the spring or summer you are treated to many wild flowers that are hard to see or find elsewhere--Alpine mountain flowers! Also go to the restaurant and have the "fisch bio Buttermilch" (fresh organic buttermilk). You won't regret it. Outstanding!

Best views of Chiemsee
Jun 2017 • Family
The ride in the cable car was slightly nerve wracking for someone slightly afraid of heights but looking out to the amazing views of Chiemsee and the Bavarian countryside was well worth it! We did the short walk along the Panoramic Way to the Steinling-Alm where a delicious hot chocolate and apple cake warmed us up. The kids loved the views, alpine cows, scrambling on rocks and the walk was short enough in the cool that it was really easy and enjoyable.

Amazing daytrip
May 2017 • Family
We did the gondola both ways, but were with family members where some hiked up, took the gondola down, and some even hiked up and hiked down. Fun activity for all levels of hikers and young/old family members. We had coffee at the fancier restaurant right when you get off the gondola and sat enjoying the views. We then walked for about 20 minutes to meet our family members and met them at the other restaurant, which was much more casual and cheap. You order at the window and can sit outside. Great soup. All around, an incredible day.
