This is a rare temple of Lord Vishnu dedicated to His Varaha Avatar (Wild boar incarnation) - third Avatar in the Dashavatar in Satya yuga. It is very old temple and might have been a big and important temple in ancient age. But now it seems to have lost its importance and is not maintained properly. As I have short listed this temple through online sites before our Ajmer-Pushkar visit, we went searching for the same. It is 10 minutes walk from Lord Brahma temple through lanes. Not many visitors are there and we had a peaceful dharshan of Lord. Must visit temple in Pushkar.

As per mythology, Lord Vishnu has appeared as Wild Boar with two tusks to rescue the planet Earth from the demon Hiranyaksha. Hiranyaksha has carried the Earth and went under the Cosmic Ocean and hidden it there.Lord Vishnu fought with him for thousands of years and brought back the Earth holding between the two tusks and restored it in the Universe in original position. Om Namo Narayanaya!

Lord Vishnu's Varaha Avtar temple is very ancient and we walked through narrow streets from Pushkar lake to reach the temple in the evening. There is not enough lighting in the temple. Seeing the stature of the temple it seemed to be one of the big temples in olden days. But now it is not maintained properly. There is no crowd and our family is the only visitors when we went. We had a peaceful worship and spent some quiet time in the temple.

This is the oldest temple of the area and I was astonished to see that hardly 1/100 of the visitors visit there. this temple is dedicated to lord Vishnu who came on earth for the killing of Hirnayakshyap in the form of Varah. The temple is not maintained and it must be taken over by the ASI for betterment. Must visit for religious and spiritual purposes.

As soon as we entered the gate, three guys approched my husband and I giving us flowers though we said several times we didn't want them. Then they took us to the ghat in such an invasive way, that I asked my husband to go away. As he wanted to stay, we sat by the ghat and the guys kept talking to us and pretending to teach us how to pray!!! Without ceremonies, they told us that we were expected to make a 500 rupiah (per person) donation! We stood up and just went away after telling them what we thought. Nowhere in the world I have ever experienced such a horrible feeling in a sacred place. The saddest Is that many tourists give them money and the tourist police do nothing. By the way, one of the guys was clearly alcoholic or drug addict.

The well crafted & colourful temple of Vishnu depicts all His Avatars. It serves curd rice for Prasad, which in itself is very tasty

Varaha Temple is not well maintained but interesting and in peaceful surrounding. personaly, i like its a bit worn-out and raw presence. less people get there so you can enjoy quiet atmosphere of the place.

Granted, the temple is not easily visible, nor so popular as the Brahma temple (and thank God for it!). But it loped really serene and the priest was very absorbed in his prayers, which is a welcome change from the money-snatching, intimidating pandas that we encounter elsewhere in the country.
