I was impressed by the beauty of this palace, after visiting jahangir palace. This mahal(palace) is smaller but more simple more airy and more beautiful. It is the fresco paintings on the wall and ceilings made from the vegetable dyes which make this palace so beautiful.
Some of the paintings have been spoiled, destroyed with time, but a lot of them are still fresh, and look lovely.
In the evening, raja mahal is lighted up with the light and sound show, and looks magnificent.
I have been to Rajasthan, and the palaces there are grand, and well preserved but somehow I found palaces, temples and the whole little town of Orchha to be more charming, more inviting.
I hope MP government takes some steps to preserve this treasure, before irrepairable damage is done to them.

The Raja Mahal is one of the main palaces inside the Orchha Fort complex and in terms of enjoyment, is probably second to Jahangir Mahal. The Raja Mahal was the royal residence of the Bundela Rajputs, kings of Orchha and the royal family. It’s pretty obvious from the exterior architecture that this was a place of importance. The interior was obviously once lavishly decorated, but much of the frescos have faded badly, although there are still some large pieces that make the visit worthwhile. Definitely visit this palace when visiting the Orchha fort complex.

Raja Mahal is third in row if one starts from Jahangir Mahal, goes across Sheesh Mahal ( which has now been turned into a MPT hotel ) and proceeds further in the Orchha Fort Complex. One single ticket of Rs.10/- allows entry to the Fort complex. The Mahal was built in 1538 A.D.The Raja Mahal has several big courtyards and is therefore very Airy and open sort. The palace walls are 5 feet wide alike a fortress!.The Raja Mahal is well illuminated in the evening and the lighted structure gives a feel of the magnificence which it embodied once. The Raja Mahal is famous for the Fresco paintings visible on it's ceilings and walls. These impart a distinct character & beauty to the palace. Most of the paintings are faded now but the charm has sustained.

This is one of three separate palaces, or "mahals," in this complex: the Raj Mahal, Jehangir Mahal, and Rai Parveen Mahal. What makes this stand out is the paintings being restored. There is a great view of the city from the tops of the walls. Worth the look.

This is situated inside orchha fort. Raja mahal can give u a fair idea about the lifestyle of those kings in ancient India. Every corner of the building possess the essence of Indian history. U must see the view of Chaturbhuj temple from Raja mahal.

It's good to see this place in contrast to the more elaborate palace next to it. There's not much to see - it's an abandoned place, after all. But the wall paintings that still survive are remarkable.

This was a royal palace for the king in the centre of Orchha. Like all buildings in the town the structure is well preserved and holds much history of the area. The wall paintings were charming and told the stories of the royal family and their subjects - another insight into lovely Ochha so don't pass it by.

The Mahal is part of Fort Complex along with Jehangir Mahal N Rai Parveen Mahal.
Situated to the right of the quadrangle, this palace was built in the 17th century by Madhukar Shah, the deeply religious predecessor of Bir Singh JuDeo.
The plain exteriors, crowned by chhatris, give way to interiors with exquisite murals, boldly colourful on a variety of religious themes.

You can click the fort from the top of Chatur Bhuj Temple ( ask the boy inside temple to take you through hidden stairs to top) in many angles

Get a good guide inside the Mahal to take you all over the complex, including locked rooms, for a tip.

I would recommend to attend light N sound show previous day before going through wall to wall inside Mahal to get a reason why one or another thing was created.
