- gpradeepshenoyBengaluru, India1,078 contributionsMust visit place in OrchhaOrchha fort complex is about 5-7 minutes walk from Ram raja temple . Orchha fort complex has Raja mahal , Jehangir Mahal , sheesh Mahal ( sheesh Mahal is now converted into a hotel and restaurant ). The entrance ticket for orcha fort which includes entrance ticket for Raja mahal , Jehangir Mahal , Royal chattris and laxmi temple is Rs 12 per Person. There is a light and sound show daily at Orchha fort . I went for the English show which starts at 7:30 pm and costs Rs 200 er person. The duration of light and sound show is one hour and I will suggest all those who are interested in history to watch light and sound show here. Light and sound show in hindi starts at 8:30 Pm Try to reach this fort in early morning say at about 9 am to avoid heat as the day progresses and also it's good to hire a guide for Raja mahal and Jehangir mahal. The guide charges are fixed and displayed at ticket counter . Orcha fort complex also has a audio guide system. Also do have sufficient stock of drinking water when visiting this fort.Traveled soloWritten August 20, 2021
- RkRoadiePune, India625 contributionsVery big fort from insideThere is parking near ticket counter as well as one can park near Ram Raja Temple parking and walk for 300 meters towards fort. The parking is Rs.30 per car. The entry ticket is Rs.10 per person (less than 15 years is free). Note : Keep this ticket safe as you need to show it while entering Raja Mahal, Chattris and LaxmiNarayan Temple. Once you enter the fort you will feel the vastness of it. There are courtyards and steps to reach at different level. One has to walk and climb it to see the views. Once you are done with main fort complex then you can visit Raja Mahal which is separate complex beside fort. You can see paintings on wall which are painted few hundred years ago. In Raja Mahal as well you need to climb stairs and walk in courtyard hence keep a bottle of water along with you. There are few other complex as well beside main fort.Written November 15, 2021
- Shonil_BPune, India332 contributionsRepresentation of BundelkhandThe Fort is strategically built in such a way that it is on a natural island formed by Betwa river. This was for the safety from enemies during old days. You need to cross the bridge to reach the fort. The sound and light show is conducted in this fort in the evening. It is worth a watch. I would recommend watching the sound and light show in the evening and then watch these palaces and other attractions of the town after then on the next day. It will give a better idea about the orchha town and palaces. This fort consists of mainly 2 parts. The Raja Mahal and Jehangir Mahal. My reviews about these two places is written in the respective attractions. The other palace is Sheesh Mahal which is converted into hotel. Rai Parveen mahal can be a avoided place.Written April 12, 2020

Hidden architectural gem of Madhya Pradesh, Orchha and this fort is a great place to relive and marvel at our rich and magnificent past. The fort is huge and has multiple levels. The central courtyard is the main attraction and you get a feel of how magnificent it may have been in the past. The place has rich history associated with it, so hire a guide else roam around the fort and that itself will take 2 to 3 hours if you combine it with the nearby Chaturbhuj temple.

The fort is beautiful and every corner is full of history. Remember to take a guide as only then one can appreciate the beauty of the fort. Seeing the fort without a guide us actually meaningless.
The sound and light show is also good and throws light on the history of Orcha. It is good in its own way, you will enjoy it as long as you don't compare it to the sound and light shoes at the Delhi or Golconda fort .
The fort is a must visit

The Orchha fort is a must visit, the stories around the origin of the place, the kings and the development of the fort are fascinating and the guides here do great justice to them. Its appalling though that these heritage properties are not well funded and thus aren't in their best state.

This is a must visit monument at Orchha and arguably the place's best attraction. Maintenance of all monuments at Orchha leaves a lot to be desired and the fort is no exception. It is still a beautiful place to visit and the audio guide is quite informative. To see the all the different places within the fort and enjoy the place at a leisurely pace it will take at least 3 hours.

We started from the Raja Mahal and then to Jahangir Mahal and travesed our way to Raja Ram Mandir and Chatrabuj Mandir. We also visited the chatris which were built for all the kings. The most spectacular place for us was the Laxmi Mandir at the outskirts of orchha. At every place Sunilji gave us a brief overview of the place and patiently highlighted all the key aspects. We were transported back to the bundela time.
We recommend to take a guide to best soak in the history. We highly recommend Sunil guide for orchha. His no is 7000482377/ 99935 07993.
He did not show any kind of tiresome even though the sun was scorching hot and patiently spent 3 hours with us.

Must visit lovely fort but not well maintained. Light and Sound show is awesome. The sunset view from fort is excellent. Hiring a guide is recommended as he /she can explain the history of the city, fort including chaturbhuj temple , Rai Parveen mahal etc.

Excellent architecture by the Bundelkhand Kings. Raja mahal, Rani mahal and the paintings are very good., Jehangir palace, Sheesh Mahal( now PP Tourism Hotel) are also equally good. However for elders like us (over 70 years ) climbing the fort and the stairs is difficult.
We visited in Mid Dec. 21. The cold climate, natural air and ambience was very enjoyable.

We visited Orchha on 26th Oct. Stayed at MP Tourism's Sheesh Mahal Palace Hotel (Maharani Suite). Memorable experience of staying in a Palace with great Hospitality & delicious food. A very polite & cooperative staff. All other sight seeing Palaces & Raja Ram Temple were within the same campus / adjacent to the Hotel. A peaceful & wonderful town on the bank of river Betma with lush green forests all around.

I am planning to visit Orcha fort around 10-12th November 2020. Is the fort open, given COVID lockdown guidelines? How closed or open to tourists is Orcha at the moment?

Hi... We visited Orchha in September first week.. just as the Unlock 4.0 guidelines came... Everything is open to tourists there... You can visit... If you have confusion, you can directly call MP Tourism.. find their number from Google... They're highly responsive... 😊

Hi,
I am planning to visit Orchha next week and require a couple of informations.
Is it possible to get advanced sightseeing tickets (for next day ) from the Orchha fort? If so how long the ticket counter remains open?
Thanks in advance!

You require only one ticket for all the monuments in Orachha, and the rush isn't much, just go to the fort complex and buy a ₹10 ticket per head. The monuments allow entry till 5pm.

Hi!
I'm planning for a small trip to Orchha, Madhya Pradesh in early September. Is it a preferable time as monsoon rain can possibly ruin all travel plans?
Thanks in advance.

Rain in September 1st week is a remote possibility. In my view the trip can be planned. It is a good place to see.

hello.
i would suggest you start your day early (8am will be fine) from the Jehangir palace and the fort situated in the same campus. It would take you 4 hours to complete the sight seeing here. Then have some refreshment in the MPTDC restaurant/hotel in the campus itself.
After lunch move to the chhatris on the shore of betwa. here you can go for river rafting also. After that visit laxmi temple. In the evening attend aarti at Ram mandir. But before aarti see the Light and sound show.

Hi,
We have made booking for Hotel Amar Mahal ,Orchestra in 2nd week of Sept.,2016.We will be travelling by train up to Jhanshi.
On enquary, the hotel is charging rs.800 for pickup for a distance of about 16km. which I find quite expensive .
If somebody suggest cheaper transport like autorikshaw or taxi.
And how much should we pay?
