Upper lake is very large, beautiful, nice views of Shamla hills. In evening this part remains busy with people. We took boat cruise at 6PM which takes around 45 mintues, You can watch sunset & views of Shamla hills. Cruise is a simple boat with 2 decks, they take 80 persons for cruise, ticket is Rs 170/= per person.

I'd heard a lot about the Upper Lake & was excited to visit. My first visit was in the evening. Locals had come out in good numbers to enjoy time on & around the lake.

I'm not fond of boating but my friend convinced me to go on a speedboat with her. Thank God I did! It was an exhilarating experience. The ticket counter is right at the Boat Club & the prices are fixed. There was a queue but it was all well - organized.

The lake is clean & pristine. The efforts put in by authorities & Bhopal residents is evident. At the Boat Club, we also saw quite a few ducks & geese. They were posing for food! There are a few food stalls on the other side of the Boat Club.

I returned to the Upper Lake the next morning for a photo-walk. I began at the Van Vihar entrance end & walked on the periphery of the lake (called Lake View Road) for ~2 KMS.

It was a great photo-walk. The shimmering blue lake provided a picturesque backdrop. I find it difficult to believe that a lake within a city can be so pristine. Little boats bobbed on the lake surface.

& then the birds! I'd never thought I would get a chance to see SO MANY kinds of birds but I did. From Indian Pond Herons to Oriental Magpie Robins to Green Bee Eaters to Pied Kingfishers to Purple Sunbirds to Bar - Headed Geese to Gadwalls & many more.

Upper Lake is a MUST VISIT!

This is the best part of Bhopal and hence crowded all thru out the day. The best time to visit is early morning or late in the evening when you can take a nice leisurely stroll along the pathway. There is an impressive statute of legendary Raja Bhoj in the lake.

Upper Lake aka Bada Talav aka Bhopal Taal is the soul of Bhopal. Its grand presense kept Bhopal amongst greenest state capitals of the country. This is amongst the biggest man made lakes of the world connected to a sequence of six more, to capture over flow of it. Should you wish to enjoy Night life of real Bhopal; Upper Lake; Peer Gate and Chowk are the right places!!

It's a nice huge lake, very much closer to Van Vihar. It has water sports activities. It was nice and cool today. There is a Kebab restaurant near by, Zauq, looked nice but didn't get to try it since we were full.

Was suggested by friends to do a boat ride in the city of lakes so bought the cruise tickets and the additions rush was that for Valentine’s Day.. was hesitating to do the cruise when we saw the boat , nothing close to a catamaran or similar , small boat.. but saw many in the queue to on-board including elderly. So took the plunge , did not repent boarding the boat as the sun had just set and brilliant colours were visible , some I could capture .. there was music in the board and some light snacks .. spent the time watching the people on board .. so lively and full of energy , maybe that is a MP / Bhopal thing , seems to run on you.. people from all kinds of places were there but all enjoying .. being Valentine’s Day there were more couples .. I was there with my better half too.. but would be counted in the elderly group I guess.. would strongly recommend a relaxed 45 minutes if u want to get rubbed by the Bhopal culture and beauty !

This lake of Bhopal seems the largest lake in heart of city in the world.
Boat Club here offers you speed boating facilities whole day & cruise in the evening before sunset.
