Upper Lake aka Bada Talav aka Bhopal Taal is the soul of Bhopal. Its grand presense kept Bhopal amongst greenest state capitals of the country. This is amongst the biggest man made lakes of the world connected to a sequence of six more, to capture over flow of it. Should you wish to enjoy Night life of real Bhopal; Upper Lake; Peer Gate and Chowk are the right places!!

Bhojtal, formerly known as Upper Lake, is a large lake which lies on the western side of the capital city of Madhya Pradesh, Bhopal, India. It is a major source of drinking water for the residents of the city, serving around 40% of the residents with nearly 30 million imperial gallons (140,000 m3) of water per day. Bada talaab, along with the nearby Chhota Talaab, meaning small lake in Hindi, constitute Bhoj Wetland, which is now a Ramsar site.

This is the best part of Bhopal and hence crowded all thru out the day. The best time to visit is early morning or late in the evening when you can take a nice leisurely stroll along the pathway. There is an impressive statute of legendary Raja Bhoj in the lake.

It's a nice huge lake, very much closer to Van Vihar. It has water sports activities. It was nice and cool today. There is a Kebab restaurant near by, Zauq, looked nice but didn't get to try it since we were full.

Upper lake is the souls of the city.
Must visit.
Preferably walk through along the lake side.
Boat rides are there.
A wonderful place to go for early morning walks and find some time in peace with yourself.

Bhopal is popularly known as City Of Lakes and Upper Lake is the biggest lake very well maintained lake with boating facilities available. We took speed boat just for 10 mins and it was just fantastic. Since it was noon time there wasn't much crowd. We also fed ducks here the sight of watching so many ducks together is just spellbound. Must visit this lake to enjoy the real beauty of nature.

The boat club is quite clean, has good options for boating, the evening/night cruise was excellent, value for money, with just 100 bucks, you can get a 45 minute ride all around the lake. Cruise is Goa style with music and light snacks/drinks on baord that can be purchased.
