We agree! This Unesco World Heritage site is a wonder to visit. At present, it is not overrun with tourists, but this might change soon. This magnificent walled city in a mysterious boulder-strewn landscape was described by European visitors in the 1400s as "like a second paradise." One Persian traveler stated that it had "no equal anywhere else in the world." Ancient travelers report that the city had "gardens full of trees and sweet scented herbs" and that its markets were brimming with pearls, rubies, diamonds and other precious stones. The king was reputed to have "40,000 horsemen and 400 elephants and dromedaries." You can still visit the magnificent elephant stables and parade ground and imagine the fantastic pageantry of the festivals held in the empire of Vijanagara. With Rome, it was one of the largest city complexes on the planet. You will need a guide to even scratch the surface of this vast complex of temples, palaces, elephant stables, harems and fortresses. You also want to learn something about the culture, which is fascinating. We highly recommend our guide, Hussen, who gave us the most marvelous tour of the ruins and regaled us with stories of the Hindu gods and goddesses. Born in Hampi, and registered as a tourist guide with a company called Hampi7guides.com, Hussen is a superlative guide. You can reach him at guidehussen@gmail.com. There is also a good book entitled "Hampi Vijanagara" by American anthropologist John M. Fritz and British archaeologist George Michell. You can buy it at the ruins. Hussen took us to a disabled man in front of one of the palaces to purchase it -- a token of the very thoughtful tour he provided. PS Wear very comfortable close toed shoes for some serious walking around the ruins.Visited January 2020Written January 28, 2020
- Subith kumarNileshwar, India8 contributionsThe Architecural Marvelous of 15th CenturyHampi is a gem of the 15th-century period. The group of monuments is many stories tell to travelers. each one monument can tell the different stories of the Vijaya Nagara Dynasty. When I go in there in the tome of the Hampi festival season, so there is a very rush time to visit in the festival season. Because a good traveler can study and enjoy every bit of the attractions. so if you want to enjoy the monuments and the stories behind the monuments. You should go nonfestive season and find a good guide. Travelers must visit Virupaksha temple, Anjanadri Hills, Vitahla Temple the three monuments never miss the trip. the stone chariot and the 56 pillars in Vitahla temple the pillars produce the 56 different sounds. Virupaksha temple mirror image the architectural marvelous in the 15 century. Anjanadrihills is given the stunning view of the Hampi village. Many other monuments are in there. But these 3 are my favorite. When you go to the Hampi festival season you should take care of you otherwise no one can care you even you go in a group because of the heavy rush of local peoples and the travelers.Visited January 2020Written October 2, 2020

Makes you to reflect upon the the rich glory of South India and how it thrived economically, and culturally under the great emperor Srikrishnadevaraya. A must visit to understand India’s rich history, culture, art and civilisation. Royal enclave, Lotus mahal arena, Virupaksha temple, Vittala temple,Krishna temple & markets , Underground shiva temple, Hazarama temple are some of the best and must visit. We were a family group of 25 and during this 2 full days trip , hired a local tourist guide Mr.Vijay ( +91 94803 83066 ) , He is a certified state tourism department guide with multilingual fluency. He was authentic, knowledgable, cool and patient with our large group . We had great experiences. Hampi was a different and amazing experience, a literal walk down history. The ruins are well preserved, and tell the story of life in the 14th century. The intricate stone work, the enormous boulders and the elaborate architecture, all mesmerizes you. We went with a pre-teen and teen, and the entire family enjoyed the trip.
I won't consider Hampi as a laid back vacation, but a fun and informative educational tour. We spent 2 full days exploring the ruins and climbing the mountain. To experience the site, you really need to hire a guide, and try to hire an official one. They all have the blue and white uniforms. Ours was Rajavali (80738741311 and 9480755411), who was both professional and well versed. He was able to answer the many questions asked by the kids and his picture book of little details he shows at each location is like a treasure trove of information. We appreciated his punctuality and flexibility to work on our ever changing schedule. We ended up hiring him for the whole trip of 2 days. I'd whole heartedly recommend him to friends and family.
I would venture out to say that Hampi is the Rome of India, it gives the similar feeling of being transported to age old land. Would not recommend it for smaller kids, but anyone over the age of 12 should be able to enjoy. Also, really appreciated was the tourist friendly nature of the locals. We visited during the middle of June and I think it was a perfect time with reduced crowds and sunny skies.

Our tour to the historic ruins of Hampi and the surrounding areas was made mesmerizing by our guide Mr.Rajavalli. His knowledge about the place is immense and he takes you around the places at your leisure. With him around, we could immerse in the era of a time long gone; but we lived through it. The 2 days that we spend there, we were transported back to time. There are soo many monuments and structures around Hampi that they have their own stories to tell. When you visit such places you require a guide who knows the details to the fullest. Mr. Rajavalli is such a person. Without him, those monuments would have remained just a piece of stone. Also, what is the treasure that we carry back from such places other then memories and photographs? Our guide, helped us with some excellent photographic locations which I am sure will remain ever with us. Mr. Rajavalli can be contacted on +91 8073874131 and/or 9480755411.
I feel 2-3 days is required if Hampi is to be explored at length. (Add travel days to it). We stayed at Hospet (Royal Central Orchid Kireeti). Food at the hotel is excellent and so is the pool. Hampi is day exploration with lot of walk around, thus a cool time at the pool is required once you are back at the hotel. Generally days are hot at Hampi and night's cool. Vehicle will be required when you move from Hospet to Hampi. Also, sunscreen protection cream might be useful. Though there is nothing much to do in Hospet after sunset, but still going around the downtown area (bus stand, market) might be interesting.
Overall, not only an excellent trip but a memorable one too!!!!!

Me and my wife went to our honeymoon to Hampi. It's our first experience at Hampi together alone.
After looking for multiple sources for internal travel and tour guide, we came across to gentlemen, Ramalee, our private auto driver and Rajavali, our private tour guide.
These two people play the most important role in we enjoying our Trip to Hampi.
The historical architecture is simply phenomenal and the scale of massive rocks is way beyond expressing how amazing they are.
We got to click a lot of pictures by ourselves and Mr. Rajavali our tour guide clicked some really amazing snaps which are still the best memories me and my wife alongside different locations within Hampi.
Mr. Rajavali is very well versed with the history of the place and all the events that led to the creation of the architectural and geographical monuments.
We used to question many things to him and he used to give us answers to all of them, satisfactorily.
On our last day after checking out from hotel, we still had good 6-7 hours in hand to roam around. Mr. Ramalee, by himself took the responsibility of our luggage during this period without any hassle by sitting in auto for the whole time while we did our sightseeing.
The place was simply fabulous and the localites taking utmost care of their heritage gives it a necessary soul which is seen only at countryside like these.
Without Mr. Rajavali and Mr. Ramalee, our trip wouldn't have been the same i honestly feel. We are deeply grateful to the two beautiful souls.
I'm sharing their contact details if anyone needs to contact them during their trip.
Mr. Ramalee : 94497 89008
Mr. Rajavali : 80738 74131
Hope you enjoyed my experience and I hope you find it insightful and helpful.
Thank you.

We planned for a 2 night, 3 days’ trip to Hampi to visit the ancient monuments primarily. The scenic beauty and the history were truly delightful for us. It is no surprise why the monuments are a World Heritage Site. It deserves the recognition. We loved the temples, the architecture, the history and stories behind these monuments and it seemed we lived the inhabitants’ life while we were there. The skies were beautiful when we visited in mid-August.
Our experience was excellent due to our Guide, Mr. Bhanu. I read about him on TA and I contacted him for our trip and we were earlier skeptical if we should have a guide as we like our privacy and like to cover places at our own pace. Looking back, this was the best decision we made as he not only was flexible as per our individual needs, he customised the itinerary real time to help us with our requests. We hired him for an exclusive tour for ourselves for the entire day.
We have never found a Guide like him before in India. He is knowledgeable, helpful and has insights that we wouldn’t have known had we not hired him. There are many monuments to cover and I would strongly recommend his services as we may have missed some monuments without him. He even helped us with a Lunch place recommendation and other helpful tips for travellers that are much needed. It really helps to have a local like him as we speak only Hindi and English. He can speak Hindi, English, Telugu and Kannada. He can be contacted on 94494 09070.

Me and my spouse visited hampi between 11th and 14th April 2021. We hired tour guide services of Mr. Bhanu (contact : 9449409070). He took us around and showed Hampi and explained the importance of each heritage and the history behind it. He explained to us in such a way that we could actually imagine what would have the place looked like in the 16th century. He was extremely polite, friendly, punctual and spoke fluent English. He also recommended some authentic breakfast places. It doesn't end there. To top it all, he took some beautiful photographs of us. I would highly recommend Bhanu if you want to visit Hampi.
Tip: if you visit Hampi, it's recommended that you hire a guide without which you might feel lost.

Truly blissful and mesmerizing. I would not suggest to visit the place in summers and March was quite hot. Although early morning and post 4.45 pm it was good but 10 to 4pm it was very hard to commute. We had a very experience and seasoned guide named bhanu who told us about the entire things in a very interesting way and suggested few good places to see sun rise and sun set. I would recommend him to travellers who want to get the real feel of hampi. He can be contacted at 9449409070.

Our enriching tour of Hampi was more special, thanks to our very knowledgeable guide, Mr Rajavalli, whose explanations helped us immensely in understanding the rich history of the erstwhile Vijaynagar Kingdom, and in appreciating its archeological marvels, displayed in the magnificent temples and sculptures of the time.
Rajavalli's lucid descriptions not only painted a vivid picture of life as it was during the time of Krishnadeva Raya, but also helped us grasp the religious significance of the sculptures and intricate carvings... as well as the philosophy, mythology and legends associated with them.
His descriptions, sprinkled with interesting stories and anecdotes, revealed a rich chapter in the history of mediaeval southern India, taking us back to a past era, known for its incredible art and architecture... its sculpture and archaeological gems!
My husband and I consider ourselves fortunate to have had the services of Mr Rajavalli, which made all the difference to our fascinating tour of this fabled town of Hampi.
We strongly recommend the services of this very pleasant, polite, well-mannered and helpful gentleman, and are sure you will enjoy being guided by him in a tour of this legendary town.

I had the privilege of being guided through the captivating sites of Hampi by an exceptional guide Mr. Rajavalli and I must say, the experience was nothing short of incredible! His extensive knowledge about each site we visited was truly impressive. Even more impressive was his ability to tailor the tour to our interests and preferences, ensuring that our Hampi experience was personalized and memorable. Throughout the tour, his professionalism and friendly demeanor made us feel like we were exploring Hampi with an old friend.
I wholeheartedly recommend Mr. Rajavalli's services to anyone seeking an immersive, informative, and unforgettable tour of Hampi.

We visited Hampi and stayed in Hospet for 3 nights/4 days from where accessing Hampi was only a 15 mins drive.
We undertook the services of Rajavalli guide (Mob: 9480755411 / 8073874131) for 2 full days. A very knowledgeable person with fluency in English, Hindi, Kannada and Telugu, he took us around all the sites and optimised the trip to our needs. He is a very patient person and explains everything in a lot of detail. We never felt rushed at any time and on both days we covered a lot between 10 and 4.
He also recommended the best places for lunch and is also an excellent photographer. He knows the right places and takes photos that are quite memorable.
Hampi is an amazing place with so many architectural marvels. Without a guide you would be lost to the historical significance and the little stories that exist in such places.
You can visit all of them at a leisurely place over 2 or 3 days and Rajavalli will be sure to tailor the trip as per your needs.
Highly recommend his services if you are visiting Hampi.

We were a group of 9 families visiting Hampi. On the recommendation of another friend who had availed guide services, we got in touch with Mr Raghavendra / Raghu to be our guide. You need a guide to understand the history, the small details in any historical place.. on our own we would have only marvelled at the beautiful structures. But thanks to Raghu, we noted the dashavatars , stories from ramayana engraved on the walls.. the niches and grooves for watering system on the chariot, the significance of structures. One of the highlights of our trip was a serene boat ride early morning before the crowds came rushing on Tungabhadra river to visit koti linga. The tranquility of early morning, just us on both the river and the rocks made a for a very special and memorable sightseeing. So do take a guide while visiting Hampi and if you are looking for a tried and tested recommendation - get in touch with Raghu at +929483508167 / raghu0144@gmail.com

I did not see any indication they would not be allowed, nor any mechanism to prevent their admission. That said, it is always possible that bystanders, other visitors, or even temple officials might raise some objection. I would be very sad to see such happen, and emphasize that I saw no evidence of such. I do wish you all the best and do hope you will be able to visit these beautiful and historic locations.
Will I get guide at these attractions? or do I need to check at Hotel at Hospet? I will be staying at Hospet and will be doing day visit to Hampi.
And what will be guide charges per day?

Hosepet is the nearest town from hampi (almost 10kms), where you can get good stay with good facilities/eateries shops nearby as well. Regular public transport as well as cab hire available from there.
You can consider kamalapur as well.

How many days does it take to visit all the monuments in Hampi
Nishita Jindal
Hyderabad, India122 contributions
If you are a history buff and just love architecture, then 4-5 days can be spent very comfortably to see all the monuments. But if you are a lover of photography then 3 days can be spent comfortably to cover all scenic spots. Mostly, people spend maximum 4 days to cover all key monuments.
what are cab charges for sight seeing
To see all the architectural sites, it costed me ₹1000 for auto rickshaw. From 10:00 AM to 5:30 PM.
Details:
Hired it near the River at 10:00 AM. Took me to almost all the sites and dropped me at Hampi bazaar for shopping around 5:00 PM. The only place missed was Bheema’s gare. We had to rush back because the last ferry to other side of the river is at 5:30 PM.
NOTE: These auto rickshaw drivers are not allowed to enter the monuments. They explain you the history from outside- before you enter the place. They are not guides. They are just locals who know the history half way through.
So if you wanna understand the history of each and everything in Hampi - you gotta hire a guide.
