They built this indo-Islamic style palace with water cooled air conditioning system. This 400 + years old2 storied palace is still fully intact . A mark of ancient Indian engineering and innovation. There is treasury building and other palaces ( ruins) in the complex.
Elephant stables and housing quarters for the mahouts nearby is also a must visit.

This is one of the most beautiful structures in Hampi. Very much photogenic. Saw few boys/girls doing a sketching of this structure while sitting on the lawns around the Mahal. There is an entry fee for this Mahal. If you visit during the evening, the evening light just glows the whole mahal making it a stunning visual.

1. Situated inside the Zenana Enclosure, Lotus Mahal is a double story mahal with 24 pillars and is beautiful on the right side.
2. It was a hangout spot for the royal ladies in the ancient world.
3. Entire structure looks like a lotus and hence it was named Lotus Mahal. It is made of granite stone.
4. You can’t enter the mahal and guards will stop you if you try to.
5. You have to buy a ticket by which you can visit all the hampi monuments for a day. However the ticket counter is quite far from the entrance and it can be tiring. Entrance cost is Rs 40.
6. You should visit the elephant stable which is nearby.
7. Timing is 8AM to 6PM. Guard won’t allow you to enter after 5:30PM.

One of the popular tourist attractions in Hampi the Lotus Mahal and the Elephant Stables are located within the same compound.
One can spend about 10-15min at each of these attractions. Tickets will have to bought at the counter outside.

Wonderful architecture of the ancient cooling system installed in this mahal. Worth admiring and spending some time. You can see it only from outside and cant enter inside. One of the very few intact structures in Hampi.

The architecture is a mix of mughal and S.Indian. Very well ventilated. As in other places, we are not allowed to mount up the stairs. We were showed the torch rings, to light up the place. Also the tiny openings for the water to pass through, keeping the place cool in summer.

The Lotus Mahal is a two-storied Indo-Islamic style building in the Zanana Enclosure group of buildings. The area is one of the best preserved parts of Hampi and somehow managed to survive the sack following the fall of the Vijayanagara Empire.
The building is a pavilion built in the Indo-Islamic style of architecture, with lobed arches decorated with floral themes and windows on the higher stories built with a similar, but simpler lobed arches.

It is a ruin of beautiful piece of history and must see place. Ticket purchased in Lotus Mahal can be used in Vijaya Vittala Temple as well. Also Elephant stable is part of Lotus Mahal.

Located next to the Elephant stables, this is a surprisingly intact structure built in the Indo-Islamic style (which probably saved it). Rather resembling north Indian buildings, the whole structure is based on a lotus motif. It is one of the few spots where one can rest a bit in the heat. Surprisingly cool air was blowing through the open passages despite the sweltering heat around. A good photo stop.
