1. This is a unique structure and you will not see it anywhere else. Royal elephants are kept here. How often do you see such huge structures for elephants?
2. It has survived the Mughal attack and it has 10 domes.
3. Entry is paid and once you buy a ticket you can visit all the structures of the Hampi for a day. It is 10 for Indians and 250 for foreigners.
4. It takes around 1 hr to cover this structure and nearby structures and it closes at 6PM.
5. It is believed that there were 10,000 elephants in the Vijayanagar Empire.

Visit to understand the various architectural aspects. Unique design with hindu-jain-Buddhist and Islamic influences. Shows the open minded and secular nature of the Vijayanagara kings. Adjacent to lotus mahal so a must visit.

I must say this place is a very grand place to be a elephant stable. Very well made, nice domes and well planned. Overall a good place for photographs and taking some rest before heading back to city . Go towards evening when rush is less and you can enjoy the place.

The elephant stable was constructed in the 15th century, during the reign of the Vijayanagara Empire. As the name indicates, the stable was constructed to house the royal elephants of the Vijayanagara Empire.
The elaborate structure indicates the importance attached to the royal elephants during those days. It also suggests towards the amazing craftsmanship of the artisans of that era.
The domed chambers are interconnected with large arched openings.

The Elephant Stables is a set of buildings to hold the Royal elephants of the rulers of the Vijayanagara Empire. Unlike much of the greater group of monuments of Hamp, this building survived the fall of the empire largely intact.
This building is in the Zanana Enclosure group of building to the far south east of the main Hampi complex. There’s also an extra fee to see the buildings here. The building is impressive for its size, but otherwise isn’t all that interesting. I didn;t think it was worth it for the extra cost and distance to get here, even if you include the Lotus Mahal which is part of the complex.

The Royal Elephant Stables are situated behind the Zanana Enclosure; you walk through the Zanana Enclosure and past the Lotus Mahal, down the path and into another large enclosure at the end of which stands a long, solid building with rows of ‘cells’ topped with domes of different styles. These are the Royal Elephant Stables, dating back to the 15th century.
Each ‘cell’ here housed an elephant, and it’s interesting to step in and see just what it must have been like for the elephants. Each cell also has an arched doorway, big enough for a human being to pass through, to go from one cell into another without stepping out. There’s also an arched window looking out from the back of each cell which has been blocked for some strange reason.
Beyond the elephant stables, at right angles to it, are the quarters of the mahouts.
Nice green well-laid out lawn in front of this monument, so one can relax.
Adjacent to lotus mahal so a must visit.
These chambers are around 11 in their total count; some of which are interconnected. The whole building gives a symmetrical appearance, and the central hall tower reflects the shape of most of the temples here. This central hall has five domes on either side of it which reflects an Islamic style of architecture.
For a detailed itinerary of a 7-Day trip to Hampi, Aihole, Pattadakal, Badami & Jog Falls near Shimoga from Bangalore, feel free to visit the Links tab on my profile on TripAdvisor.

These stables were left almost intact by the invaders probably because they housed no idols or riches. Visit the museum (idol) gallery next to it.
