We read about this place before arriving. It was truly a majestic experience to see the temple and structures which hold so much historical significance.

I would suggest that when you are entering, you walk to the temple. There are few places of historical significance along the way. It's a few hundred meters so it does not tire you out. Return could be in the cart.

If it's too sunny, also carry a cap, umbrella - whatever works for you.

Since we had read, and being introverts not wanting to chit-chat, we did not take a guide. Depending on your individual comfort level to engage one, many will approach at the entrance.

This is a beautiful site .. the queen used to have her dance recitals here.. the musicians used to use these pillars as musical instruments. .. i think there are 56 such pillars in sets of 2, 4 and 6...
Sadly the tourists used stones to hit the pillars and now we are not allowed in the area..
Once again please take a guide.

It is a nice temple with a famous sun chariot temple and music pillar mandaps inside it. You will need an ASI ticket for visiting this complex.

Amazing history , must visit .. carry your Rs 50 currency note :)
They have an electric cart from the parking to the monument .. walking is also fun if possible .. 10 mins walk .. lot of stories, art and culture.
Take a guide for more stories and learnings. and interesting anecdotes. Early morning or late evening is the best time.
We took the services of Bhanu : +91 9449409070 and he was very good with stories, family friendly, humble, resourceful and helpful.

We took a night bus to reach Hampi from Mumbai and had booked a hotel near to the bus stop. We searched on Trip Advisor for guides and booked one. Took a rickshaw which costed around Rs. 150 to reach Hampi Village. Our hotel was near to the bus stand so we also used the bus service a couple of times. We also booked a rickshaw for a day tour of all the historic places which were covered in a day easily. Our guide was knowledgeable and gave us great info about the rich history of Hampi. We were in awe of the place. He also clicked photos for us. Please make sure to hire a guide. There is also a chariot which is on our Rs. 50 /- note among the group of monuments. There are many intricate details to this place which a guide can explain very well. Loved this place. A must visit.

This place is an absolute must visit in your Hampi trip. It houses various Mandaps and the stone chariot is right here. We were in awe of this place to see how our ancestors created this way back in 1500 AD.

Suggest you take a guide who can show various points in detail- there are so many points that will be missed otherwise

The Vithala temple complex is the absolute show piece of Hampi. It is the most precious jewel in the dazzling crown that Hampi is & very justifiably on top in the list of things to do here.

The entrance itself presents a spellbinding vista of what must have been the busiest street in this part of the world; maybe our first mall with a massive open air promenade bound by long rows of shops featuring only the most premium of merchandise...indeed a place where trade, culture & good life flourished.

The temple complex is a collection of beautiful structures, each a template in architectural excellence. Some of these were out of bounds for visitors but there was enough to make us mortals drool over just the sheer brilliance in design of these temples. The famous chariot quite literally the center piece is a brilliant replica of the Konark Sun temple & an acknowledgement of the Vijayanagar empire's victory over the Gajapathy's of Orissa. And then, all of this is set against a backdrop of gigantic boulders - takes the breath away.

There was 360 degrees of India's golden age on display - the thought of what once was made me swell with pride as well as sulk with despair on what has now become.
