This temple is likely one of the crowning achievements of the Vijayanagar empire. Dedicated to Lord Vishnu it is a most interesting place to visit. The centerpiece here is the stone chariot. Intricate carvings abound. There are two ways to reach the temple. You can take an auto rickshaw from Hampi Bazaar which is about 7 km, then take a... More

Walking from Hampi along the river in nature is lovely with no car or motorbike noises. I visited the smaller temples around the main Vithala Temple and didn't go in as there was an expensive entry. I spent 2-3 hours enjoying myself. So rating is high for the walk but not for the temple as I didn't go in.

Vittala is a must see in Hampi. It is bit of a trek from Hampi and best visited with a guide. The hall of musical pillars is sadly under renovation and is closed to visitors for next few months.

This contains a statue of Garuda, which is the Vahana of Vithala ( Vishnu ) The main hall though is under reconstructions and therefore out of bounds. You can however take pictures from outside. The temple is carved with scenes from the Ramayana. Advisable to... More

Vithala temple is the most extravagant architectural showpiece of Hampi. The highlight of Vithala temple is its impressive pillared halls and the stone chariot.
