Mt. Kenya is a must hike for any lover of the mountain. From the landscape, vegetation, the ambience and everything about the mountain. We did a five day trek Sirmon down to Chogoria with Ahambi tours who are a very proffessional and quality based services company. Without whom this trek wouldnt have been the success it was. Just but to mention, the highlights from the company were on: 1. Responce to our emails and queries. It was timely and always informative. 2. The hiking team. The team at the mountain and the office are very friendly and approachable. Special thanks to our great guide Patrick. 3. Proffessionalism. The company maintained a high level of proffessionalism in all areas. 4. Food. We will live to remember the food at the mountain which was way above our expectation. Cudos to Samuel, the chef. I would highly recommend Mt. kenya for any mountain lover. I would highly recommend Ahambi Tours for anyone looking for proffessionalism, experience and quality service while at the Mountain. Thank you.

I have been looking at Mt Kenya each time a journey took me to the Northern parts of Kenya and really wanted to get to the top of it. I finally managed to climb it in March 2020. By climbing I really mean climbing to its true peak, Batian at 5199m. For this I engaged the services of the highly recommended team from African Ascent based in Nanyuki. They made the trek from Chogoria gate to Austrian hut via Lenana extremely comfortable so that I was able to truly enjoy the amazing landscape which changes from bamboo to alpine forest, moors and then to volcanic lunar dreamscapes. We took it "pole pole", trekking for 4 days and sleeping each night at higher altitude before the summit day. African Ascent has very good equipment and are an extremely friendly team (all 16 of them!). Not to mention providing plenty of very tasty freshly prepared food too! For the actual climbing part via Batian and the SE ridge route I was in the safe hands of David the squad leader of the Mount Kenya Rescue Service who was contracted in by African Ascent as technical climbing guide (as far as I understand this is common practice amongst the various providers of Mt Kenya climbing experiences). If you have done some Alpine climbing and mountaineering this part will feel familiar with all the usual fun and struggle: the weather is just as unpredictable, the ropes easily get caught on the abseils, a traverse (through the Gates of Mist) can feel a little awkward and reaching the summit always feels great. You could be anywhere in the mountains but you just happen to be on the second highest one in Africa. We walked off the mountain via the Naro Maru route which is amazingly beautiful and offers fabulous views but gets slightly spoilt by having to descend through the "hanging bog". For most of the 6 hours or so it took it was just me and the two trekking guides; the porters had disappeared downhill out of sight so fast that I would have had to run to keep up with them. As this was at the very end of the climbing season we met nobody during that day apart from a team of porters carrying up supplies for the Mountain Rescue Service. As a matter of fact during the entire trip we encountered very few trekkers and never had to share a campsite with another team. It is best to do a lot of research and read in detail about all the various approach routes, trekking and camping options to find the one that suits you best. Outfits like African Ascents offer tailor-made, rather comfortable and very safe treks. It does come at a price but for me it was money well spent. For a trek just up Lenana I think I would choose a more low key, less pricey option.

Hiking is the best physical exercise needed in your body,we did a trekking tour in mtkenya with :mount Kenya peak tours and safaris, with my guide David, they did a good job together with cook and porters,it was advantage for us to spend time time with them, happy, smiling and taught us the local songs and dance.we did the chogoria part up in a 5 days hike.the chogoria route is of better views, the gorges valley is fantastic to see.it was less touristic this no big group on that route,we only met 2 groups. I really recommend chogoria route.

What can I say? William and his crew are the best Mount Kenya treks have to offer. William took care of everything and consistently went beyond the call of duty. He met us late at our hostel when we arrived in Nairobi to sort out details, gathered all the equipment we needed for the hike and took us into town to get boots for our hike. He picked us up in nanyuki and drove us to the park entrance. He provided some of his own equipment for us to use. He handled all Park fees and lodging expenses on the mountain. He even took us on a farm tour at his friend’s garden when we were done hiking! Kenith was the man and journeyed with us all the way to the summit. He didn’t seem to tire at all and with a steady and consistent pace, you could tell this wasn’t his first rodeo. He was always accommodating and just the face you wanted to greet you early in the morning for breakfast. And then there was John. To some, maybe just a cook, but for us, he was the life-blood of the whole trip. The meals he cooked while trekking up the mountain were something you might think your mom made for you after a long winter day. Chapatis, omelets, fish, fresh fruit, French toast, hot beverages, etc. All things you might not think you need on a camping trek, but when they're going down into your belly, you’re sure glad you have. These guys are pros. After spending 5 days with them on the mountain, I wouldn’t just trust them with another trek up mount Kenya, I’d trust them with my whole life. Thanks William!

What an epic 5 day trip up Mount Kenya. Amazing scenery, great wildlife and there was an absolutely stunning sunrise on summit morning. This is one GREAT trek ! I went with the Trek Mount Kenya team. They're headed-up by Ben, with Joshua as co-guide, Francis as chef, Samuel as co-chef/porter and Enock as driver. They’re all friendly, helpful, knowledgeable and very good at what they do. They're excellent company, and in the cold evenings you'll be entertained over dinner with a lot of great mountain stories. I really cannot recommend them highly enough. It is like trekking with old friends. It’s a local company so you know your money is going direct to the right place, and the whole team look after you from start to finish. If you want to trek Mt Kenya then get in touch with Ben and get planning -) you'll not regret it! Corona: Kenya reopened to international tourism in Aug '20. I travelled there in Sep '20. In many ways I couldn’t have asked for a better time to travel. No other international travellers were trekking so the mountain was ours. Kenya was very safe Corona-wise. Everywhere you go you get temperature checked and there’s plenty of hand washing, sanitising & mask wearing. It felt very safe and travel during corona was good
