Our son was married here last month. We also hosted the rehearsal dinner at the winery and stayed in the lodge on the property. Everything was wonderful. Having an event during the pandemic added extra layers of stress, but the staff helped ease those concerns. The venue itself was charming and the property is beautiful; we could not have had a better atmosphere for this important celebration. From the planning to the event itself, the staff at Sassafras were friendly, professional, and very helpful. They provided us with a virtual tour so we could make informed decisions, made suggestions for catering, hosted a wine tasting prior to the event, and they delivered outstanding customer service during the rehearsal dinner and the wedding. I highly recommend it.

I have thought long and hard about this review and regret to have to write it. SSV is a beautiful venue which is why my daughter chose it for her wedding. After paying SSV in full during COVID-19 restrictions we moved the wedding date and trusted we would be given quality service for the wedding. Communications pre-wedding day were jumbled at best due to multiple peope involved in email chains. Upon arrival the morning of the wedding I was met with disappointment as the venue was not and could not be set up as we had planned. The management team had not communicated to us that our floorplan was not to code and so they set the room as they saw fit. First thing you do after finding a venue is plan the design for the room with table set-up, rentals and florals. We had to adjust to their plan. The bridal suite was miserably hot and when I asked about the issue management blamed the bride and her bridesmaids. Note to any bride with more than a couple of bridesmaids, this suite is not suitable. The list goes on and on about how I was addressed when I called with several other issues during the day. Our biggest issue was that the bar was serving old beer. The alcohol I paid for was not good. It actually was so bad that people were leaving cups full and some were even pouring out the beer. We soon realized that the kegs and winearitas could not have been full as they emptied within the first 30 minutes of the reception. Our guest numbers were between 75-100 people and not all were drinking. Too many details to review here. The Wednesday following the wedding my daughter and I met with the owner and her management team to discuss all the issues we had the day of our event. We were promised that SSV would look into reimbursement of our costs. The only thing I received was an email stating that I still owed them money for additional alcohol we had to order during the reception. What I have since learned is that we are not the only weddings/celebrations that have had these issues. We are also not the only clients that have addressed this issue with SSV. As far back as 5 years ago and even weeks before our event others had the same issues. As a winery/brewery we trusted SSV for a great experience. I hope they will learn from my daughter's wedding. Mismanagement, service and serving bad/old beer to customers when they paid for new/fresh kegs does not look good for the establishment. What is even worse is for an establishment not to be true to their word.

Not on the agenda for the day, but what a great find, relaxing break and enjoyable attentive staff (Sheila was great). The history is interesting, warm atmosphere, food delish and the wine was good too! We will definitely be back!

Went for my husbands birthday celebration. Walked in to the counter and a young man looked our direction with no greeting. We asked for a wine tasting. He slapped a menu down on the counter. We got a flight....not a wine tasting. The wines were from various places, but not grown locally. Cutting to the chase.....very poor service (Seth), pizza was good, and we will go back for atmosphere. After asking for a beer and another wine we were told that we needed to come to the counter for service??

Debbie, Please let me know when you do come back and I will personally give you a wine tasting experience and winery tour of our production building. We pride ourselves in excellent customer experience and I appreciate your review. We will be speaking with Seth regarding this expectation verses reality experience at Sassafras. I apologize and I assure you this is not the norm. Thank you again. We do bring in some varietals of fresh grapes from the west coast and make wine from them. We also make wine from local Chambourcin grapes. Our Rose is really good and from a local grape. Thank you Cheers Cheryl PS.... Happy Birthday to your husband!

I thoroughly enjoyed the atmosphere while visiting with my niece. There is no hustle or bustle here, very relaxing. Both Kristy (sp?) and Seth were perfect hosts. This is a great getaway and DRINK MORE WINE!!! Thank You Sassafras for a lovely afternoon. I highly recommend visiting the Sassafras Winery.
