this is a great way to kill some time in matsushima but it's not a must see... the best part is probably the beautiful, long red bridge. there are some nice photogenic spots located around the island but nothing really out of the ordinary.

It was a pleasant morning walk even though the the temp was about 1C! We thoroughly enjoyed the scenic nature. It helps that we are in our comfortable boots as some paths are abit hilly and rocky. Otherwise, even the elderly can stroll comfortably. There are a few nice romantic huts for rest and just enjoy the beautiful scenery of the sea and greenery.

This has a semi-paved road that will lead you around the island, if you want to see it all be prepared to navigate some trails that take agility. The are ample posting of the varied vegetation (though in Japanese) for I understand it has a vast variety of plants. Some outstanding views of other islands and bay from vantage points.

It is a small walk from the center over the bridge (there is a small admission fee). The place is very lovely and we found a very quite place to relax and enjoy the view.

If one is not rushed for time, do spend some time strolling the island. There are pathways leading to lookout points and a beach. As you walk deeper into the island, there are fewer people. Definitely a nice escape from the crowds at Matsushima Pier and Godaido Temple.
