    Entrance to Petra
The Visitors Centre is where you can buy tickets or scan your Jordan Pass to get tickets. There are maps in many languages that are free. If you want to buy souvenirs it was recommended that you get them here by our tour guide as some he was suggesting that the ones inside Petra are not legit and the silver is fake. Many items do not have prices and it is worth shopping around or haggling. I got the price of a pop's price down at the "supermarket" but one of the people from our tour group got an even better deal by going around the corner of the Indiana Jones booth. The entrance fee is 50 JOD for people who stay at least one night in Jordan but 90 JOD if you don't book any accommodations. If you do plan on staying at least three nights in Jordan you can actually get a Jordan Pass which allows access to many of Jordan's top sights. The cost is 70 JOD and includes one day entry to Petra and will waive the 40 JOD visa on arrival fee so you'll save a bit. The entrance is SE of Petra and there is free parking and a free museum nearby. From here it took 40 minutes to get to the Treasury and about 100 minutes to get to the Monestary. Plan to spend at least 4 to 6 hours in Petra and bring good shoes. You can book a shuttle from here which can take you further in if you're short on time.

    Friendly and helpful staff here
I showed the printout of my Jordan pass at the Office here. Was told that they could not read or scan the bar code in the printout. A helpful guy standing outside asked for my passport, and quickly I was given a 2-day pass or ticket. They also gave me a map of Petra and pointed to the area where I would start my visit.

Petra visitor center - All the things you need
An advice from the locals is to visit the Little Petra first and hike all the way from the entrance (visitor center). There’s a free shuttle bus behind the Petra Museum (going to Little Petra) for a 10-15 minute journey. Petra Visitor Center is helpful with all the things you need to know. There’s also different languages of maps which is really interesting. There’s a small museum as well but I think all of the artifacts are moved to the museum itself.

Petra is a life experience and definitely should be done with a guide. You will walk and walk so prepare with comfy supportive shoes and lots of water. Not sure it should take more than a day, depending upon the side hikes etc and whether you want to go to Little Petra. The landscape, including the slot canyon you first walk through is as impressive as the architecture.

Yes, it is true that this place is welcoming and friendly. Very much so. IMHO, it is not an attraction per se, especially in Petra. However, it is very handy in terms of preparing you for visiting Petra, e.g., to buy so clothes as we had to do because of rapidly inclined weather.

Once entering Petra, there were only friendly people helping to get around with tickets (Jordan Pass), providing with map and some good tips. After the visit we realized we left a sunglasses box at the bench by the Siq entrance and the service at the Visitor center was so kind that arranged for us that someone went there to check is the missing box is still there and once found - brought it to us. Do not hesitate to ask for any assistance as people there are ready to help with many quiestions/needs.

What can one say about this or any visitor centre

Namely it needs to be efficient, helpful, informative, cheerful employees and not tied down in red tape

Firstly for me personally it was. I had my QR Jordan expert pass (80JD) on my iPhone. Passport wasn't needed

I didn't encounter too many employees but the desk and the actual ticket booth ones were pleasent enough

Beaurocratically it was a painless experience

There were many information boards about the major attractions which were helpful and interesting

I met a local taxi driver who's super helpful, Omar. Just ask for him as he waits at the JETT bus station or u can email me for me into

A very impressive experience! Wonderful place with stunning buildings....
Also the people working there are exceptionally helpful and accommodating.
A special thank you to the Bedouin boy Ahmad - son of Suliman -grandson of Hassan (who both run a souvenir stall in farsavalley): Ahmad, to our great luck, found and returned the cell phone we had lost earlier. Hard to believe that nowadays there are still such honest, sincere and correct people! Thank you!

The Petra Visitors' Center does not provide a lot of information, the staff are moderately helpful if you ask a direct question but don't seem to be very interested. The Visitors' Centre is across from the Petra Museum. There is also an ATM nearby, which can be a trifle hard to find.
