We were hardly inside the Petra main gate when we had our first glimpse of Nabataean workmanship. It was just the start of hundreds of photos our group took that day! The Obelisk Tomb is named after the four pyramid-shaped obelisks that decorate the top of this two-story structure. The bottom story is called a Triclinium (dining hall) for funeral celebrations. The top story is the actual tomb.

From the Visitor Centre just a short walk from the main trail, at your left, Obelisk Tomb is directly across the Djinn Blocks, right beside the road. It seems like it was built under an Egyptian influence. The facade of the four Obelisks, together with the eroded human figure in the centre, probably represented the five people buried in the tomb.  The façade of the Obelisk Tomb measures 15.98 m in width and 12.3 m in height. On the day that we visited it was packed with tourists like us. It was not easy to take a picture without people.

These tombs were original burial places for high officials. Very striking against the mountain with their pyramid shaped fronts. Red color when the sun is in the right position of the day.

This is another highlight in Petra. It is right at the start of the trail so you can’t really miss it. Absolutely worth seeing.

The Obelisk Tomb is not too far into the Petra experience. One of the first things you'll encounter and gives you a taste of what's to come. Grand looking it's worth having a guide to explain the significance if the carving and symbolism.

Among the 500+ tombs in Petra, this one is perhaps the first easily noticeable structure. This relatively intact tomb reflects the mastery of the Nabateans in art and architecture.

On the Southern side of the road to the ancient site besides Petra, it is located a carved monument named Obelisk Tomb.
We had a special feeling - something like a trills, at the view of this impressive shape on the mountain.
