Two Towers and a Wall
Jan 2021
It's just ruins, nothing spectacular. It would be Okay for someone whos never seen something like this, but it will be a disappointment for people who have been at/on full fortresses and castles. Cafes and buildings have been built where the old walls were. The doorway in the castle wall leads to a cafe.

Magical ruins
May 2020
A lot of things to see in this castle, one of the most amused in Albania. Unique architecture, is suitable to visit for all the ages.
You can find a restaurant inside to drink . Not sure if this is a good place for it, but anyway it doesn't make the castle to loose it values.

Tower is it
Sep 2020 • Solo
The main attraction is the Venetian tower. It is great to see, but won't take you long. It is prettier lit up at night.

It's in fact a tower only
Aug 2020
By the attraction title one might think there's a castle in Durres. In fact it's just a remaining tower and a part of the protective walls from the Venetian era.
The tower is an usual and average one you've probably seen in many places. However, being in the center at the end of the main street by the seafront you'll pass it for sure.
The rooftop cafe was closed during our visit, maybe because of Covid, but I don't find it appropriate being there anyway.

A surviving Venetian tower fortification...
Oct 2019
A very small part of the history of Durres is preserved in the form of a surviving Venetian tower fortification. It has been converted to a bar called La Torra, which provided a nice view from the top while enjoying our glasses of wine. Be warned that one must navigate an original stone stairway to reach the rooftop seating area.

Good mixture of heritage, business and pleasure
Oct 2019
I do not like to see the hospitality business mix with cultural and historical heritage but in this city of mass tourism everything is possible.

Great 600+ yo Castle still in use
Sep 2019
Whether it's coffee, wine, or a cocktail this place is posh. The achitecture inside is incredible with perfect sound engineered that far back in history. They have excellent music upstair on the roof as you have a wonderful view of the ocean and surrounding Durres. The staff is friendly and inviting. I will go back here every time I goto Durres

It would take two separate assessments.

This marvelous tower of the Venetian period - ottomanno is one of the still present towers that can be admired in the ancient city walls. This historic monument is however inaccessible to tourists as you can only access it if you have a drink in the bar area inside. What really absurd. We walked in we admired the interior quickly and the more we tried to climb to the top of the tower, but immediately the waiter told us that if something was consumed well if not to go out. When we pointed out that this is a national monographic part of the Durazzo guides, the manager or owner railed against us and practically threw us out. This person has railed us in Albanian with truly ineffable violence and wickedness.
If this is the state system of attracting tourists to Albania it is better to let it go.

Cocktail bar in lovely historic setting
Sep 2019 • Couples
Whilst this place is a historic attraction in its own right, being a remnant of the ancient walls of Durres, it’s probably best known these days for the open air cocktail bar up on the roof. You access via a steep enclosed stairwell to the very nicely appointed rooftop bar. It’s a really lovely space in the warm weather with good views up the coastal promenade (northwards only, the docks are to the south). Prices are very reasonable and there is a comprehensive list of cocktails. We were here 6 years ago and this was a prime nightspot but I suspect it’s suffered a little in recent years due to competition from the ever-expanding choice of food and drink outlets along the Durres promenade which probably helps to keep the prices lower than would be expected.
