it was a once in a lifetime experience taking the Open Water PADI with my daughter. Our instructor Selina and her assistant Dive Master Johnny were excellent teachers making us feel safe at all times. We learned loads and had time to experience what the Underwater World has to offer.

While we were diving our youngest daughter and my wife Rebecca joined us for snorkling:-)

We can highly recommend Deefer Diving in Carriacou!!

This dive shop is amazing. Gary is so responsive to inquiries and was integral in helping coordinate a transfer for us from Grenada to Carriacou and arranged our hotel accommodations as well. Nora is fabulous! Her love of the ocean and diving is contagious. All of the staff and boat crew were accommodating and professional. We had some great dives Nd did some serious lionfish hunting. Don't hesitate to go with this shop. I will be back!

I had been certified for one week when I wandered onto the porch at Deefer Diving. I could not have asked for a better first dive trip experience. It starts with Karen who patiently exchanged numerous emails with me to set up not only diving, but accommodations and transportation. Once I arrived, I was family. It was that simple. I was new to diving and had never been to the island before and no one cared. I was so impressed by how comfortable they made me. I especially want to thank Hannah and Andre who had the dubious experience of being the guides on my dives. The two of them, Dean, Cecile and Gary all did such a great job of making sure that all the divers on the boat....me (a novice), a man getting his advanced open water certification and a couple who have 45 years experience....had uniquely satisfying experiences. After a great night dive a couple of us even went out to dinner with Gary and his wife! If you’re headed to Grenada, contact Deefer Diving to explore diving in Carriacou.

Hi Robyn, Thank you for your fantastic review and I am so happy that you enjoyed your Deefer family experience. After all these years I am still thrilled to be able to call Carriacou home and diving my job (job? really? getting paid for this?) and meeting people like you makes it all really worthwhile. I'm so very proud of our team at Deefer and think that each and every one of them is special in the way they care for all our guests... We look forward to being able to dive with you again soon Team Deefer

10 weeks with Deefer Diving was barely enough time for me. During my stay, the immensely knowledgeable staff helped me progress from Advanced Open Water diver to Divemaster, with many specialties in between. I have been blown away by the quality of teaching and their commitment to the preservation of the stunning reefs. It is very rare to find a place with such professionalism that also makes you feel a part of the family. I am eternally grateful for this experience and I shall be returning as soon as I can!

Alex and Katlynd took us on an absolutely gorgeous dive at Mabouya and the Lighthouse Reefs... Mabouya is one of my favorite places to dive: massive, beautiful fish, the "Bubble Garden" (where gas bubbles up from underground), and an amazing diversity of creatures to see! We saw a tiny turtle taking a nap under a ledge at Lighthouse, and he didn't mind having his photo taken whatsoever. Proper little celebrity.

Long and short of it is, the Deefer staff are all amazing people who have their service game down to a tee. They know all the good spots, and I'd recommend diving with them as an absolute priority should you ever travel to Carriacou.

We came to Carriacou to do our open Water diving Certificate. Deefer diving was by far the best choice we could have made. Gary and Alex were so pacient with us and got us through the course they were always on hand if we needed to go through anything and even gave us snorkeling kit for when we had free time. The dive sites lived up to their names including World of dreams that was breath taking and Sharkies hide out. I would recomend this centre to anyone thinking of taking up the oppurtunity of exploring the big blue.

We saw Eagle ray, greem turtle, Barracuda sholes of Mackerel and plenty of lobsters while we were here and it was so nice to dive on a reef that is protected from fishing and in a progressive state.

Our only regret was not having more time here to do more diving.

Thanks to you both and good luck with Deefer Diving

I’d booked a quiet relaxing holiday in the Caribbean on a small island called Carriacou, one of the Grenadines just off of Grenada. The islands name apparently means Land of Reefs in Indian, so whilst I was there I decided to take the plunge and do my Open Water course.

My only previous experience was on an introductory dive in Cyprus too many years ago to remember. I am also not a very confident swimmer, so needed to feel 110% comfortable that I was in safe hands! After reviewing the 3 dive shops located on the island, I settled on Deefer Diving (formerly Carriacou Silver Diving, which has just undergone a change of ownership). Why? Initially their website was fresh, modern, they had a Facebook site and I was impressed by what I saw. I made contact with them, and felt really comfortable with their approach to this not-so-confident swimmer……

I wasn’t disappointed when I got to the island. Carriacou is a beautiful, laid-back gem of the Caribbean and probably best described as “old Grenada”. I got great view of the island on the small plane ride from Grenada to Carriacou (booked with SVG, who come well recommended). Walking down the street, the locals are friendly and I had to smile with envy at how happy and relaxed everyone was! 9-5 working life back in the UK suddenly seemed very dull.

The dive shop is very conveniently located to both the dock (literally a short walk away) and Lauriston Airport (about 5 mins away by taxi) and more importantly the hotel I stayed in. When I got to the dive shop, I was greeted by a pretty location, friendly faces and a warm hand-shake. Gary and Alex, the new English owners, were very welcoming and made me feel like an old friend. I felt comfortable and assured I was in good hands.

After doing my theory work under the calming guidance of Alex, I was ready for my first confined water dives the following day. These were conducted off the beach in the calm shallows of the Caribbean Sea, slightly better than a hotel pool or a pool back home! Aside from the amazing setting, the drills were conducted in a way that made me feel both confident and safe and I soon forgot my lack of confidence in the water. The theory work I did with Alex was well ingrained in my mind and I was pleased with how much I remembered. OK, so I ‘ballsed up’ a couple of the drills, but who doesn’t and that’s part of the fun of learning (I certainly gave my instructor something to laugh at!). After some further coaching and reassurance, I was back on the drills right away and I was making big steps forward in my confidence under water.

Following the day in confined water, we headed out the next day for my first open water dive and more drills (drat!). The setting was fantastic, diving off “Jack-a-Dan”, an island just a short boat-ride from the beach. The boat captain, the very aptly named Patrick Stewart (sadly not Jean-Luc Picard from the Starship Enterprise, but just as cool), kept a good eye on everything going on above the water to ensure we were all happy and safe.

The open water dives were fantastic, 2 days of underwater activity around “Jack-a-Dan” and Sandy island Lighthouse (look them up on Deefer’s website!) that left me beaming with excitement after sighting a Southern Stingray on my final training dive. The next morning, I went on my first “fun” dive as a newly qualified diver and was rewarded with the sighting of a nurse shark, resting around the coral off Mabouya. Words fail to describe this majestic sight. I was buzzing and I think I’m now hooked too.

After each dive, Alex was really great in helping me to look up the fish I’d seen (doing a great job in interpreting my bad descriptions!) and it was nice to be able to record the sights I’d seen in my first dive logs.

In all, a fantastic experience and one that will have me returning to the Caribbean – and in particular Carriacou – again. I’d wholly recommend Deefer Diving, very pleased with the entire team there, They made me feel safe and unpressured, and made the whole experience fun. Everyone contributed to a very enjoyable experience and one that I would recommend you try yourself.

We had a 10 dive package booked with Deefer Diving. We were there just after the start of the real global panic set in over Coronavirus.

DD were our local rep for our travel arrangements as well and in this (and every other) respect they were absolutely faultless. the owners Gary and Alex are very much hands on, and Alex was our dive leader most days. She is really keen on fish ID as am I, so she was more than happy after the dives to sit down with me and go through the fish books to ID what we'd seen. I know I'm a nerd but I don't care.

The whole of the team were great. Everyone on the dive boat was brilliant. They looked after us really well, getting all the tanks onto the boat and changing your tanks between dives. The dive boat is a catamaran and nice and stable, with a good amount of room to manoeuvre about on board. The dive sites are fabulous and The Sisters is apparently one of the best in the world.

Karen in the office really looked after us and was on the ball the whole time we were there as regards any travel issues. Within hours of us arriving on Carriacou we had been to to get ready to leave again. But happily we didn't have to go. We got 8 of our dives in, before getting a knock on our door at about 9.30pm on day 5 from Gary to tell us that we had to pack and be ready to get the ferry at 6am the next morning to go back to Grenada. The Govt of Grenada was changing their travel restrictions and were closing down. DD arranged a taxi for the morning and a place for us to stay on Grenada for 2 days before our flight home, which was the last flight out before the borders closed.

We rented some kit for our dives and it was all in excellent condition. Such a shame we missed our last days diving, but given we nearly missed it all, we were delighted with what we had. I would thoroughly recommend DD.

Thank you so much for this review Hazel, and sorry we never got the chance to take you on those last dives and bid you a proper 'safe travels' back to the UK. It did get a little bit frantic here at the last moment, but I and the team are happy that you managed to get that last flight home safely. We'll look forward to welcoming you back to Carriacou once this is all over, and we can get those dives in that we talked about too....

My wife and I booked a dive-and-stay package with Deefer Diving and we couldn't be more happy with the services provided. This is an extremely well organized operation with a large catamaran dive boat. Most dive sites are a 20-minute or less away and they are absolutely spectacular. A special "thank you!" goes to my dive master Kate for making my 8 dives nothing short of fantastic! Highly recommended.
