We have recently come back from Grenada, and used Simply Carriacou to do a day trip sailing around the Tobago Cays. I found Simply Carriacou website just on a google search. They do 2 trips - one on the Scaramouche which was used in Pirates of the Caribbean, and the other on a power boat. We chose the latter as it was a lot cheaper - but we actually feel that we enjoyed it much much more. We had the boat to ourselves, so it was like we had hired our own boat and skipper for the day! Our skipper Sherwin and his friend were excellent company and took us from Carriacou up past Union Island and Palm Island. We stopped off at Baradol Island in the Tobago Cays first of all. The turquoise waters and soft white sands are every bit as picture perfect as you might expect. Sea Turtles are often spotted in the waters around the cays. There is also a great view over to Petit Tabac where Pirates of the Caribbean was filmed. Then we sailed to Petit Bateau - probably our favourite island. There is a main beach which is pretty, but if you take the little trail to the other side of the island you get a more rugged beach for that true Robinson Crusoe feel. Then on to Mayreau. Karen at Simply Carriacou had organised us a lovely picnic lunch which we ate on the beach here. Then our skipper Sherwin arranged for one of his friends on the island to drive us to the top for the awesome views of the Tobago Cays. The people on the island are all really nice too - try not to drink too much of the Sunset Rum (84.5%) if you want to avoid an afternoon hangover! But fun all the same. Finally we sailed round to Happy Island - a man made island made out of conch shells. It was fun to listen to the owner Janti explain how we created the island. Then Sherwin took us back to the jetty that is right at the bottom of the runway on Carriacou so that we could literally jump straight off our boat onto the plane for our flight back to Grenada. Karen at Simply Carriacou also arranged our flights to/from Grenada - flights and the whole day trip with the picnic come to about £150pp - absolutely worth every single penny. (rum punch and beers are also included in the price too) I have heard very good things about the Scaramouche, but for us - having our own boat for the day was much more rewarding. We could go where we wanted to go. I can't recommend this trip enough, and Karen was brilliant at arranging everything so all we had to do was think about having fun and enjoying the islands :)

If you want to make the most of your trip to Grenada and pop across to Cariacou go with Simply Cariacou. Sounds a lot on first look but believe me (as a lady approaching 60) the best value for an experience of a life time hard to beat! The crew are amazing the boat a real thrill, rum punch the best in the Caribbean, Sherwin and Kennet so look after you, nothing phases them but I would say talk to them as a wealth of knowledge between them gives you huge insight into island life. Try and meet Karen too, lovely lady!
Just do it!

We did the Grenadines day tour recently on the 8th September and I must say how happy we were that day to explore the Grenadines and see shades of Blue and Turquoise that we had never seen before even after living on the island of Grenada for 20+ years! We had so much fun and the staff definitely did a great job in welcoming us and giving us that perfect tour. Lunch and drinks were included and was tasty and refreshing! A big shout out to the Captain and his first mate who were really helpful. I recommend this tour agency for a great day trip to the Grenadines. The sea can be a little choppy but that's nobody's fault. On that day I did quite a lot of photography and videography and just wanted to share a short trailer from all the clips I manage to record. The full movie will be completed in 3-4 weeks when I head back to England in 4 days.

Simply Carriacou is a Tourist Service Agency. It does not refer to the island itself, as some reviewers here have mistaken.
I booked a tour with Simply Carriacou, as I wanted to see the giant turtles. Having read the reviews here and looked at the company website, it looked beautiful.
I contacted Karen, who does indeed seem to be very efficient. She quoted a cost of £454 for the day trip from Grenada and back. It wasnt cheap, but we usually find you get what you pay for, and I really wanted to take this opportunity.
Our plane was at 9am. The ferry does not get to the island until 11am, so really flying is the best option. Its a tiny 8 seater plane, but the weather was good and the flight was very smooth.
We arrived at Carriacou airport and were met as arranged. We were taken down to the port a few minutes away, where we were met by Sherwin and Marlon with their boat. Without delay we were off in the boat along the coast.
Serwin explained that we would do a circular route around the islands, and that it would get rougher as we left the shelter of Carriacou. It did indeed. The weather was perfect, but in open sea, in a small boat, it was quite choppy. I was very soon absolutely drenched. Not really a problem for me, as I had my swimsuit under my clothes, and had taken spare clothes. However, my husband is not a good swimmer, and he was pretty terrified. We were not aware if there were any life jackets or safety equipment on board. The boat itself did not look particularly sturdy, and in our view is simply not robust enough for tourists.
We arrived at Tobago Cays marine park which is an absolutely beautiful area. The water is clear, and the islands are surrounded by their own horseshoe shaped reef. We saw a couple of vague objects underwater as we approached the islands, which the guys said were the turtles.
On the island, Marlon showed us some igunana, and the views were lovely. I did some snorkling, but unforunately did not spot a turtle.
Once back in the boat, we set off for lunch on Mayreau. As we were back in the boat heading away from the island, several turtles did pop their heads up out of the water, but were too fast to photograph. I would have liked to have gone back into the water, but as we were out of depth, the guys would never have been able to get me back into the boat. Some sort of ledge or ladder on the boat would have been more appropriate.
Of far greater concern was the lunch arrangements. We arrived on Mayreau to find that Blackboys bar had been demolished the previous week by the authorities. Pieces of his property and equipment were strewn along the beach. Pieces of wood had been nailed together under a plastic sheet, under which was a table and bench. Regardless, Blackboy was still cooking us lunch, and apparently going to rebuild his bar even bigger at some point in the future ! Frankly, myself and my husband were dumbstruck. It was like having lunch in a scrap yard with a beautiful view (if you looked in the right direction). We didn't feel there was much we could do, and we were hungry. I did fear for my health, as the 3 dogs coated in ticks watched us eat, and the cooking bowls were washed up in the sea after the meal. Most of the food must have been pre-prepared, but there was nowhere for anyone to wash their hands. I did ask for some rum punch (alcohol seemed a good option by that point), but apparently Blackboy had no drinks - in fact he did not even have running water. After the meal, we then had to wait for half an hour whilst an assembled group of men, women and children (Blackboy's friends ?) finished off what was left over from lunch, before we could move on. We didnt have any objection to other people eating the food, but this was clearly an arranged event.
One of the group from Mayreau, a boat taxi driver called 'courageous lion' then followed us on to Happy Island. Apparently he was after Sherwin's rum punch (which wasnt offered to me!), which he enjoyed with us completely stoned and smoking a spliff.
Happy Island may once have been a romatic shell built haven, but now it is more of a concrete block. However, it did sell alcohol. We were surprised to see our skipper tucking in, but subsequently just relieved to be heading towards home.
Since our return home, I have contacted Simply Carriacou and explained my disappointment. Karen has answered with efficiency, and here is part of her reply
'After each trip I always have a discussion with Sherwin to find out how the trip went and if there were any issues. He did mention the problems with Black Boy's bar which he was not aware of until he turned up. He had even spoken to Black Boy the day before to make sure everything was ok for lunch and was not told about it. We do have alternative places to go for lunch and will be using these for future trips. Sherwin told me that he was actually quite embarrassed about things when he saw the situation - with the bar, the crowd and 'courageous lion'. This was very unfortunate and unusual circumstances and by no means the normal lunch experience. Most people enjoy the "local lunch" experience as this is something they would not normally get to do, but it has to be said they are usually sat at a table within the beach bar and are completely left alone by "the crowd". The bar, before it was broken down, had full facilities such as running hot and cold water and a washroom.'
We have corresponded with Karen, but do not seem able to make her see that a tourist agency should not be treating clients in this manner. We knew that this would not be a luxury trip, but we did expected the essentials to be covered. Karens' view that this doesnt normally happen, isnt of much use to us ! The absence of safety and hygine is a serious breach, quite apart from the poor value. Karen does not seem to understand.
We are regular travellers, and have taken boat trips in St Lucia, Italy and Croatia without incident. But this experience will certainly make us more cautious in future. Tobago Cays is beautiful, but if you're thinking of going, my advice would be to hire a catamaran, which would be far more suitable.
In hindsight, we've accepted the trip was an 'adventure', and are complaining to the authorities. We are just relieved that no ill fate befell us. Other travellers beware.

Thank you very much for the review. As I mentioned during our lengthy email correspondence prior to your review, all feedback is valuable whether good or bad. To clarify certain points for other travellers reading this review, we discussed at length the unfortunate situation with Black Boy's bar on Mayreau and the fact that Moorings (yacht charter company) are going to assist him in rebuilding his bar and restaurant as this is their preferred place to eat on Mayreau. Also the fact the same evening his bar was broken down he catered for 20 guests from Moorings under very extenuating circumstances. Black Boy's bar (before this incident) was regularly inspected by the health authority in St. Vincent and The Grenadines and he is in possession of a food safety certificate. He normally has hot and cold running water and very clean washroom facilities. In the interim period whilst Black Boy is rebuilding his bar, we are using Romeo's BBQ on Tobago Cays for lunch.
Sherwin's boat has lifejackets under the seats which are clearly visible but I have advised Sherwin to point them out to guests as they board the boat. The boat is a boat which was handcrafted by the skilled master boat builders in Petite Martinique. It is very strong, well built and is perfect for a trip of 40 minutes from Carriacou to Tobago Cays. In planning these trips we carefully considered the numbers of passengers and how far we would take passengers as safety is of the upmost concern at all times. We cannot predict the weather or the sea conditions and when the weather is bad and the sea is rough we do not run the trip and have on several occasions cancelled and given guests a full refund.
Part of the attraction of a tour such as this is that this is, as you rightly mention, an adventure tour where guests get to interact with locals on the islands and have a true experience of the caribbean, eating at a local beach bar (where locals as well as tourists eat). This is reflected in the cost of the tour. You suggest that other guests hire a catamaran to take them to the Cays, however it should also be pointed out that this will be much more costly. It should be noted taht we do also offer a sailing trip to the Cays on a mono-hull yacht as an alternative to the speedboat trip.
There are photographs of the boats (speedboat and sailing boat), the Cays, the beach bar, and Happy Island on the website so guests should be under no illusions as to what the tour is and what they are paying for.

After a few e-mails to Karen from Simply Carriacou we finally booked our trip for Valentines Day 2012. We went with Sherwin in his speed boat the Lambi Queen and he proved to be a great host and source of information.
We were picked up by Karen at the Carriacou airport after a short flight from Grenada. We quickly stopped to pick up our fresh lunch that was provided and headed to the dock to meet Sherwin. We headed out to our 1st stop in Tobago Cays passing by Union Island and a closer look at Palm Island. Once in the Cays we grabbed our snorkel gear ( not provided ) and went in search of some turtles. I immediately saw 2 together but my wife missed them as she lagged behind a bit. What a downer but low and behold there were more in abundance. How graceful they swim and are not really afraid of you. Got lots of great shots under water as well as coral and other fish sea life. We snorkelled around the island we stopped at and when we returned refreshments were waiting for us. A short jont to the next island in the Cays where we had our delicious lunch that was packed. They also had an optional lobster dinner that you can purchase on the island made fresh to order. Each island has an array of T shirts etc to buy but we didn't. Be sure to take some cash ( EC or US ).
As we continued our journey we also saw many large expensive yacht's and catamarans around the Cays as well as near by harbours. We stopped on Mayreau at Salt Whistle Bay for a look around. We did not venture up the hill to the old stone church - a bit tired from the days activity so far. Then off to Happy Island for a drink with John who built the island out of conch shells and cement over a 8 yr period. Nice place to relax for a while and view the ocean.
Simply Carriacou does offer different packages with or with out a lunch with different menus and also has a sail boat package if you wish. Each trip is custom fitted to what you want to see and go. Also you are the only ones with him so you don't have to wait for anyone and come and go as you please. It was so nice having Sherwin as our captain. He provided lots of useful information at each stop but let you go off on your own, not hovering around you. At the end Sherwin dropped us off on the beach about a 5 min walk to the airport where we waited for our flight back. Highly recommend for a personal tour. I think you can even arrange for a 1/2 day tour - we opted for the full day.

This is my first review, and I’m writhing this for Karen, Sherwin and Isaac. You will truly be missing out if you don’t take a trip with Simply Carriacou. It’s a must, if you find yourself in Grenada, or the sounding areas. Karen is simply the BEST! She will make your trip just the way you want it (as she did for me), or will provide all the information you need if you are not sure as to what you want to do. She went out of her way for my friend and I, in regards to everything, from booking our flight and ferry, to our lunch on one of the islands. I wouldn’t look around. If you are smart, you would book your trip with Simply Carriacou. It just doesn’t get any better than this!

Overall our tour was a wonderful experience from start to finish. Karen was easy to work with as we pulled all of the details together. The plane ride to Carriacoo was great. The speedboat crew was professional. Food at our lunch was deliciously prepared and swimming with the turtles was a once in a lifetime experience!! Highly recommended!!

Myself and my husband were booked this tour by a family member who lives in Grenada. We flew over to Carricou where we were greeted by our taxi driver ce pe. It was a short drive to the water where we were greeted by Kenneth and Marlon. They are both fab. Friendly and very knowledgeable about the islands. They made us feel relaxed and were always checking to see if we were ok. At each island we were told all the background information and were given enough time to take it all in and enjoy the sights. It truly is beautiful. I would recommend you have some experience in snorkeling before the trip. Equipment is provided but the water was a bit choppy. We were able to see lots of turtles and star fish, lots of exotic fish too. We stopped to have a bbq lunch which was lovely local cuisine. This was included in the price and there was more than enough to go round. Refreshments were included in the price also. Cold bottles of water and rum punch (you need to try this, it will knock your socks off) we were encouraged to have a great time by Kenneth and Marlon.
The boat itself was great. Small but it serves it's purpose very well. Life jackets are visible under the seats. We were lucky and the weather was beautiful. The water was very choppy but Kenneth handled it fabulously. Taking a spare pair of clothes would be highly recommended as you do get a little soaked but it's all part of the fun.
I would recommend this tour to anyone who is eager to see the beautiful sights of Carricou.
Gold stars all round!!!

Thank you so much for the great review and it was an absolute pleasure having you on the tour. Good tip for persons to take 'dry clothes' for their return journey to Grenada, I'll remember to mention it in the email I send when guests book. Thanks again.

I am on a cruise docking in Saline Bay on the 27th. I’d love to go on a day trip ( or half day trip), to the cays with my husband. We dock at 9am & leave at 6pm . Do you offer anything like this or can you recommend anyone? I’d be hugely grateful if you did! Many thanks!
Written January 4, 2019
Hi Thanks for the question. I am not aware of Saline Bay in Carriacou, however the cruise ships sometimes call the areas a different name to the local name. Please confirm it is in Carriacou. If it is we could potentially run a trip to Tobago Cays for you. Can you send me an email please.

Do any of your boat tours leave out of Grenada, or
do we need to fly to Carriacou?
Thanks, Donna

Hi Donna, Thanks for your question. All our tours leave from Carriacou so you will need to fly to Carriacou or come up on the ferry the day before the tour.
Thanks

Hello i'm from grenada and i'm planning a trip to carriacou for my boyfriend's birthday. What is the cost of your tours?
Written May 20, 2018
The tours to Tobago Cays cost US$150 per person (minimum 4 persons) or US$250 per person for a private trip for 2 persons. Those are my best rates. Thanks.

Hi - thanks for your question.
A private tour for 2 persons is US$250 per person, a shared tour for 4 persons or more is US$150 per person.
I hope that helps.

Hello from Atlanta, Ga. Can this trip be done if I am coming in from a cruise ship?

Unfortunately the timing of the cruise ship arrivals and departures make it impossible to do this trip. Sorry. Thank you for your question.
