About
High atop 2,753-foot Mount magazine, the state's tallest mountain, this scenic Arkansas state park was developed in the Mount Magazine Ranger District of the Ozark-St. Francis National Forest through a special use permit from the U.S. Forest Service. Sweeping vistas of broad river valleys, deep canyons, and distant mountains welcome outdoor enthusiasts to Arkansas's high point. This is a place to enjoy sightseeing, exploring the mountain and nature study. The park is a destination for outdoor sports and extreme adventure enthusiasts that offers rock climbing, rappelling, hang-gliding, mountain biking, horseback riding, backpacking, and ATV adventure. An ATV guide service is available. The park also offers overlooks, hiking trails, a picnic area with restrooms, pavilion, and a visitor center with an exhibit gallery and gift shop. The park offers 18 campsites (two Class AAA and 16 Class AA with tent only options). The Lodge features 60 guest rooms, a restaurant, conference center, business center, indoor heated swimming pool, fitness center and game room. Thirteen fully equipped cabins share the same bluff and seeping views of the valley as the lodge.

    Beautiful views
I needed a getaway. I’ve viewed this mountain from Petit Jean for many years, and always wanted to go. I drove nearly 7 hours to get there, and was not disappointed. The lodge is huge and there is a view from everywhere. I loved my king suite with the balcony. I loved the many decks and concrete pathways around the lodge. I drove around to some overlooks and went to the visitors center. The restaurant at the lodge was ok. The staff were wonderful. I will definitely be back. Oh, I even saw someone hang gliding which was pretty cool.

    Beautiful place to visit
The drive up the mountain is beautiful. We stopped at the visitors center. The man working there (Scott) was extremely helpful. He showed me some must see things we could do on our short visit up there and it was perfect. We did the overlook as we reached the top of the mountain, drove to the lodge for more scenic views, then drove Cameron bluff drive, a scenic circle with several more overlooks which we stopped at. We parked near the Cameron bluff campground and took the short route up to the top of the signal hill trail to the highest point. We later parked at the benefield picnic area where we did parts of several trails, hiked to the inspiration point overlook and retuned to the picnic area where we relaxed and had lunch before heading back down the mountain. This was on a Sunday and we encountered very few people. The lodge and cabins nearby look very nice. We didn’t see any bears, but we did see a deer, coyote, and chipmunk.

    Well worth a visit
The park was lovely. Enjoyed the short hike to the state high point and then walked behind the lodge to watch the sunset. The decorations in the lodge were nice and I hope to go back when we have more time to spend in the park.

    Beautiful views
The views are breathtaking. We didn't stay at the park, just rode through and stopped at the overlooks. We rode through the campground to check it out - it was small but fairly nice. We decided we wouldn't plan to camp there any though. The lodge and cabins looked very nice from the outside. We wanted to eat at the restaurant but had our dog with us and didn't want to leave him In the truck. We also wanted to go to the highest point, signal hill trail, but was disappointed to find out there was no view from there so we didn't do it. Overall, the views are worth the ride up.

    Mount Magazine Getaway
My husband and I loved our two night stay in cabin #2 at Mount Magazine…very cozy and clean, with an inviting wraparound deck to take in the views of the Petit Jean River Valley below, from chairs or a hot tub! We hiked about six miles around the trails, starting with an easy stroll to the top of Signal Hill, the highest point in Arkansas, and ending with a scenic hike along the North Rim Trail to Mossback Ridge. We cooked at the well-equipped cabin one night and enjoyed dinner at the Skycrest Restaurant at the lodge the next night…great food with striking views of the mist and clouds in the valley, along with nice conversations with our waitress Kelly about the area. An absolute highlight of our stay was the “Mountain Songs” program at the Cameron Bluff Amphitheater, led by the terrific Park Interpreter Alex Hedegard. He’s written several entertaining and educational songs about the history of the area and the animals and nature that make up its ecosystem. It was a breathtaking setting for hearing the melodic notes of his acoustic guitar floating on the breeze along with his engaging delivery as he shared interesting tidbits via his lyrics, complete with some fun audience participation. Perfect way to end our stay, before heading out via the scenic byway the next morning.

Staff at the Lodge could have been more friendly and accomodating due to COVID restrictions. Manager of state park very rude and short with us. We booked a 2 bedroom cabin for 2 nights and had to stay in different cabins each night. Had to actually pack everything and check out of one cabin to check into another one, which was time consuming and took away from our vacation time. The first day we checked in, we were able to enter lodge without having to wear a mask but the next when checking out of one cabin into other cabin the manager rudely told us to go outside and put on mask. We choose not to wear mask so asked if we could just be waited on curbside as they already had our credit card info, etc. His answer was no. Subsequently we ended up not staying the second day and went to Petit Jean State Park to stay. They were very accomodating and handled everything over the phone and met us outside with cabin key stating how sorry they were for any inconvinience.....

We are 50+ and greatly enjoyed our stay at Cameron Bluff Campground. The price was just $35 and we had a clean, wide, leveled campsite with full hook up. It also has a raised tent space (some people had small blow-up pools for the kids). We were at site #3, in the front close to the very clean showers. The site was easy to get into and not too close to others. But don't just go for the campground! There are beautiful overviews that can easily be enjoyed from your car or you can traverse down well groomed paths to get a closer look. We also walked several nice trails that were not too long (less that 2 miles) including the Signal Hill Trail to the top of the mountain, not a difficult trail but be prepared for stiff knees the next day. There are much longer and more challenging trails for the ambitious.
WARNING FOR GETTING THERE: The route up the mountain on HWY 27 was treacherous pulling our 27' travel trailer. Definitely plan to come up from Paris, AR.

We have camped at Mt. Magazine in our RV and love site 6. It is a nice walk to the Cameron Bluff overlook from the campground. The Benefield East loop is the best short hike with amazing views. We stayed in the lodge this past month and enjoyed gorgeous views of both sunset and sunrise from our balcony. Ask for which rooms are best view. This beautiful park has lots of hiking. We had a good breakfast in Paris. The staff there are super friendly and and can give info on the shops in town. We love Mt. Magazine Park just as it is. One of the many great Arkansas State Parks.

Cabins:
One of the nicest accommodations I have ever stayed at within a state park. The views from the cabins are vast and amazing. We staying in a 2b/2b cabin, it’s was extremely clean (I have bad allergies to dust, mold & dander). There was no musty smell and all the bathrooms were immaculate. The beds were comfortable, sheets clean. The staff brings a bundle of wood, kindling & firestarter to your porch daily. The hot tub works, and was clean and maintained.

Trails:
The trails are well marked and most are clear, there seems to be less popular trails that you may have to bushwhack. The most scenic trail by far was the south side of the Benefield East loop, a very short stretch-but so scenic.
Bear Hollow and the North Rim are nice, they have a couple little brooks running through and both have a couple scenic lookouts. Signal Hill is just a walk in the woods to the highest point (with zero view).

Overall fantastic park!

Our girls trip this year was to a cabin at Mt Magazine October 25 to October 27, 2020. We usually dine out on our trips. We found that dining at Skycrest was very time consuming because of the facility being short staffed. The available staff was wonderful and worked together as a team. Even the Park Ranger was there helping by busing tables. The limited menu had really good food! We decided that since we had a wonderful kitchen at the cabin, we would cook there. We drove down the mountain to Paris to buy groceries at Walmart and CV's Family Foods. Both stores were well stocked. The cabin was probably the best place that we have rented during our travels and had a beautiful view. All of the staff we encountered were fabulous in spite of being short handed.

We hiked several trails while staying here and enjoyed lots of breathtaking views. We used an app called All trails to help us find some trails of varying difficulties. There were also adventure activities offered such as hang gliding, rock climbing, ATV tours, and horseback riding.

We were driving through the area and decided to make a quick stop for the short hike to the high point of Arkansas. The state park has other trails, but we took the short one up to Signal Hill, which has a nice sign marking the high point of the state. The walk was less than half a mail from where we parked, near a campground; you can also do a loop and/or access it from near the Lodge.

There isn't really any view from the high point itself, you're surrounded by trees, but there is a fun map of the state made of stone that was fun to look at, as well as a log book to sign to record your achievement.

This was a beautiful park with some expansive views from the lodge area. We hiked up to Signal Hill on Mt Magazine and although it is the highest point in Arkansas it was a bit disappointing as there was no view. The trail was good and atop was a bench and an information sign. There is also a large stone map of Arkansas and a sign in book for visitors.

We thought the views were beautiful and the lodge with the original stone fireplace was majestic. It is a nice place to take in the foliage. To be fair, we did not stay overnight, just drove up to see the views and went on further north.
