A great hike to the falls through the rain forest. Beautiful flowers & even orchids! Bring binoculars to check out birds & get a closer look at the falls. You cannot get closer to the falls due to landslides but it is a pretty high, bring water and a snack. Where comfortable shoes sneakers recommended bring an umbrella.

NICE WALK

This waterfall is reachable after a short nice walk through the jungle. It's not as impressive as it used to be (due to power station) but still is very beautiful.

The best waterfall in Ecuador
Jul 2016 • Family
This waterfall is so beautiful, and powerful too. It is not too far away from Quito, maybe 3 hours by car. The weather is warm and the route is filled with rivers and amazon vegetation. Nice trip. It is so peaceful once you arrive. Walking time about 20 minutes, pictures are awesome. The most beautiful entry door to the Amazon.
TIP: on the way there is another hidden waterfall known as cascada mágica, a magnificent large waterfall 10 minutes from Cascada San Rafael, by car.

Larges Falls in Ecuador
May 2016 • Friends
This is an iconic falls on the Rio Coca near the Reserva Alto Coca. A short 45 minute walk on a well-maintained trail to an overlook. The falls will change once the CCS hydroelectric project comes online, so visit them soon, or during a heavy rain!

Lovely trail, impressive waterfall
Feb 2016
My favorite part of visiting the Cascada San Rafael was actually the hiking trail itself. We took photo after photo of wild orchids, spiders, insects, and other interesting looking plants. The waterfall is very impressive but I was disappointed that there is a single viewing point and no other trails to access for different views.

Also, once the new hyrdro-electric dam is in full operation, we have been told that the quantity of water falling over the cascade will be much less, even during the rainy season.
