Bias confession - I grew up in the natural beauty of the Arkansas River Valley. I hiked Petit Jean every weekend with friends, picnicked it with aunties and cousins, and honeymooned there with my dearly beloved. We continued the tradition even after moving out of state, flying back to stay in Mather Lodge with our kiddos, and to hike and... More

Campground is very spacious and clean. There is a lake for canoeing, kayaking, fishing and swimming. There are trails of all lengths and difficulties for all ages. If camping isn't your thing, there is a lodge and cabins for rent also. The lodge also has a restaurant. Make sure you bring your food and everything else cause the closest town... More

We'd planned this trip over Christmas to enjoy nature, do some hiking and see the "beautiful" waterfall. I thought I'd done my research fairly well but this place just didn't do it for us. Not the State Park's fault...but this December everything was dead and lackluster. The waterfall was a major disappointment. The most uncomfortable and unpleasant portion of our... More

I've been to Petit Jean State Park dozens of times and have my favorite things to do. First, spend the money to stay in the housekeeping cabins. While it's frowned upon, a handful of peanuts at your back door often results in a visit from the band of formerly wild raccoons that wander about at night. Of course most people... More

This was our first trip to Petit Jean State Park and it was a wonderful experience. We stayed in one of the duplex cabins and it was very comfortable, well-maintained and close to the hiking trails. My husband hiked several of the trails and I hiked a couple of them and found the trails to be very well marked with... More

Petit Jean State Park is truly beautiful. We stayed at the Mather Lodge for 3 nights including Thanksgiving. The leaves were in peak color, the views fabulous. The weather was a bit cloudy and chilly but we had a great weekend. The Lodge served a nice Thanksgiving buffet and there was a large crowd and about an hour wait to... More

A long and winding drive up the side of a mountain. At the top, the grave of a young woman, Petit Jean lies between the huge rock boulders atop a point that overlooks a river, a valley, and miles of land. Old abandoned rock buildings can be explored. Eagles soar at eye level as you commune with the clouds and... More
