An amazing experience. On the site of a live prison lies the old Fort built in the 1800s to defend Bucharest and used as a prison until the late 20th Century. George, our tour guide walked us through the modern prison's security and took us through the fort's tunnel-like wings and corridors telling us about its often grisly history in a wonderfully warm and knowledgeable way which put us immediately at ease. With many striking photo opportunities and incredible stories to tell, this is a hidden gem sure to make its mark on the tourist map in years to come.
