The mine itself is crazy. Really incredible. The first impact really leaves you breathless. It is accessed by minibuses from a few seats and descends to about 180 meters through narrow tunnels (so I do not recommend it to those suffering from claustrophobia) and you find yourself, once past the access gate, in front of a truly out of the ordinary panorama. The “problem” is that it ends there. You are a bit left to yourself, for 2 hours in a mine. Yes, there are photos taken by local photographers, reconstructions of machinery, a miniature golf course and a shop, but it really ends there. It would be nice to have a Guide explaining the history of the mine or for the space available to be used in a more useful or creative way. We were a bit disappointed.

Absolutely incredible. You have to be there in person to really appreciate its beauty. The caverns are just humongous. I cannot believe that 200 meters under ground there are basketball hoops, race carts, a cafe with wifi, bouncy castle, and a place to stay if you suffer with respiratory issues. They really have done as much as they possibly could for people to make the most out of their experience. The patterns on the walls are incredible too, it looks like art. Apparently, there used to be a lift that would take you down but now you enter the mines by mini vans, which you have to queue for a short while after you book the tickets. There are merchandise stalls outside too.

At a depth of 208 meters you enter the salt mine with a frequent service of minibuses that run a long helical tunnel that creeps into the bowels of the earth. At the entrance the show is really impressive: 14 trapezoidal Listing chambers with impressive dimensions The air enriched with sodium ions is an experience that many consider beneficial for breathing, so much so that it is also an underground wellness refuge; inside there is also a small history museum and several sports fields: volleyball, handball, tennis and soccer, a play area for children, karting and mechanical games. The only flaw, for a geology enthusiast like me, the poor indications on the various characteristics of the site (structure, texture, crystallization mode) and on the methods of excavation of the mine

The enormity of the largest salt mine in Europe cannot be adequately conveyed via pictures. One must travel into this mine to witness its size. Almost 1,000,000,000 tons of salt were extracted from this mine until production ended in 1970.

Absolutely incredible place would highly recommend to anyone going to Bucharest with a day in their schedule free.

It takes around 2 hours to get there on public transport and it is 100% worth it.

We first tried to go on a Sunday, but the lines and parking were ridiculous, so, we returned on a Wednesday and had a great visit. There’s a small fee to park (3 lei) and in the parking lot there are a few tourist stands (2 with salt and few mixed tourist things). The mine is basically in the city right across from a restaurant.

After you pay the entrance fee you wait to board a shuttle bus. The ride is about 4 minutes above ground and 10 minutes descending a bumpy, hairpin turn salt road down into the mine. My son gets carsick but did okay just wearing sea bands.

The mine itself has enormous vaulted ceilings and an collection of kids activities (mini-golf, bouncy houses, bikes, pool, ping-pong, planetarium). There’s lots of tables if you want to picnic. The platform that surrounds the top edge is not for visiting.

Compared to the Turda Salt Mine, this one is much bigger and the entrance is more adventurous. The Turda mine has a bigger salt water lake and allows you to walk the platform on the top edge of the mine (which is honestly a little scary).

There are lots of signs saying to wear a mask and although mask wearing seemed to be enforced in the shuttle bus it wasn’t really in the mine itself.

The mine is very big and well maintained. It was a very beautiful experience. Inside, there are playgrounds for children and a planetarium too, a place where short films about the outer space are projected each 30 minutes, but you need to pay sepparately for that.
The access inside the mine is done by minibuses.

Booking the previous day evening but lucky to get one spot, and fast response from organization to agree on pickup location. Then, smooth organization, really helpful explanations, and allowing some flexibility during the tour to accomodate all customers requests the best they can. On the way back, possible to change drop off... even at airport to take flight at 6pm!!!! Anyway, great thing to do whatever the weather!! Cheers

Awe inspiring place to visit and really interesting. Its just spectacular as you walk in. I think there are some more things they could do with the place, and I would say a safety brief on the mini-bus drive in would be useful. The (seemingly) single entry/exit route could be a concern. But otherwise, really worth visiting.

Initially I was underwhelmed at the dirty presentation Of the salt mine on the surface with rubbish strewn everywhere and a total lack of basic facilities.

There is a six stall portacabin with the dirtiest toilets I have seen outside Africa.

I felt extremely sorry for the girls as there was nowhere to stand that was not covered in water or urine.

Then to stand in line for two hours in the sun (oh sorry under a cover) and wait for the flint stone mobile (dirty mini bus) to turn up and be shoved in like sheep and then driven by an unsafe driver who talked on his mobile phone and nearly had an accident.

Roadway underground is terrible and you are subject to a windy 20min ride bumping over the worst roads I have experienced in a third world country

This is not worth wasting a day of your life at all

I visited the mine with some friends on a Sunday, we arriaved around 1pm and the queue was around 300 400 people long. We waited more than 2 hours to get in but once we arrieved in the mine... It was very impressive! It is huge, the ceiling is almost 100 meters high. If you arm yourself with patience and some sandwiches you will have a great experience.

If you have never been in a salt mine maybe you'll be amazed. But if you have seen better maintained ones, like Turda Salt Mine you'll probably be disappointed. The place itself is interesting and has a lot of potential, but no investments have been made in a long time and it seems poorly maintained. Too bad that something with such touristic potential is overlooked by authorities. The mine itself is not that impressive - just one tall salt room after another, no variation, no difference of level. The worst thing is that you go down by a shabby buss on a questionable 20 min road each way...it looked slippery (a bus actually lost control and flipped in April 2018). The elevator fell some years ago and was never repaired. Because of the constant buses there was a gas smell in the mine, which kinda ruined the whole "breath fresh salt air" experience. The facilities are scarce, there is a small lake, but it's not highlighted in any way. And there are some horrible Christmas lights on the ceiling, totally out of the general feeling of the mine. The nicest spot is the bridge with the small waterfall, good for taking pics. Price not that small for what it offers (22 RON per adult). There are bathrooms inside and the possibility to buy some snacks. Another nice spot is the one with the Dacic art. Would not say it's a must, more of a place to go if you really don't have any other ideas near Bucharest and really want to do something. I understand it's crowded in high season, in October, morning, it was OK,, no queuing at all.

This place is amazing. Visited with friends in June and its simply wow. When you have purchased your entrance tickets you board a mini bus. The start of the journey sees you enter a very small aperture in the side of the mountain where you proceed into a small tunnel. The buses are a bit rickety and the road is steep down into the mine. After about ten minutes you arrive in a small cave where you then enter into the cavernous space that was once the mine. The one thing it reminded me of is the scene in LOTR where the Orcs are attacking the fellowship in the abandoned Dwarf mine, yes its just like that.

It is cold and but the layers in the rock and the sheer size are just overwhelming. It is amazing to think that was created during a time with limited technology and that most of the achievement would have been sheer brute force, incredibly humbling.

The route is circular in that you end up where you started. Not sure on the health claims but anyway it doesn't matter.

If you are in this region then please do visit, it is a must.

The place itself is impressing - if you never saw a salt mine before.
The problems are, unfortunately, many.
You have to pay (about 2 €) for the dusty (or muddy, depending on the weather) parking. Long dusty (or muddy) walk to the "entrance" and there you might end up in a long line in the sun.
The big surprise is that instead of the elevator that used to take you in the mine in 90 seconds you will be shaken and gassed for 10 minutes inside some old unhealthy minivan. I pity the drivers. It is unacceptable that they were not able to fix or replace the elevator in so many years. I suppose the management is only interested in a quick buck. Probably the most lucrative part of the business is the parking.
Once you get in the mine, it is, as I mentioned, impressive. Big, cold (12 degrees Celsius all year round) and, if you move far enough from the improvised entrance, exhaust gas free.
The artwork is not well lit, the few installations are old and ugly, and the personnel unpleasant and ineficient.
Walls are covered in "signatures" and there is extremely little information about salt mining, history, or anything you can learn from the visit.
It looks as if nobody cares even to preserve the place, and even less to improve it the slightest bit.
As a reminder, this has been a touristic attraction for the last 45 years. It could have been fantastic by now.
To end your day, you go back to the horrible, improvised exit. You have no idea how many layers of doors await you or how much time you will spend crowding. You are almost happy to be back in the engine exhaust gas rich embarkment area and you wish you could stop breathing for the next 10 minutes.
Fortunately the way up seems shorter and less bumpier (or maybe we had a better minivan).
If you can, avoid this one and visit the Turda salt mine instead.
