This is a small museum in the centre of town, detailing the history of the island as well as its people. There is a display about local crafts, and then especially woodworking. There is also a display about the Chilotes going to Tuerra del Fuego to work in the sheep factories there. Obviously, there is a display on the wooden churches, so typical of the island. All information is in Spanish.

Small but ambitious collection emphasizing Castro's place from pre-historic to modern times. Not fancy but surprisingly informative. Hours are limited - we were there on a Saturday and it was open. Worth a 1/2 hour or more of your time, depending on your interests. Very close to Plaza des Armas.

After you have admired the great Iglesia San Francisco don't forget to visit the small but fully stocked Castro Museum. It is housed in a cute local house and it is busting at the seams. But here you can get an overview of Chiloe's past history. It is free and it is well worth a visit.

An interesting collection of Chilote items, from pre-history to native populations to Spanish and post-Spanish periods. Not fancy but well-presented. Don't be afraid to ask questions of people back in the offices.

It was a worth a quick stop with the girls. We went to see the houses on the water and then come here. Admission is free and they ask for a donation. The exhibits are in Spanish but I could understand much. It should history of the island and old tools they used.

This is a small and charming historical museum that presents displays of the earliest human settlements of Chiloé through the Spanish era to modern times. Most of the written texts are in Spanish. There are several artifacts and photos.

I really enjoyed this little museum located right off the main plaza in central Castro. If you like dioramas you will enjoy the ones here - very detailed and well done. Details of the founding of the city and a small room featuring a bit about the indigenous peoples also. The displays are a bit crowded and the passages are tight - it might not be comfortable for large or chair- bound persons. A lot of agricultural hand tools...it was very enjoyable.

The Museum is located in the downtown area of Castro, and has a number of regional artifacts that you can see unclose and personal. Upside, all artifacts have a great description. Downside. Its only in Spanish We took our children (6 & 9 years old) and they found the outside area more interesting then the inside. Museums hours are Monday to Friday 09:30-16:30 hrs, Saturday from 09:30 -13 hrs. Admission is Free. Due to smaller spaces, I'd say the best time to visit is when it opens or about 2 hours before it closes.
