About
Relax on the spotlessly white sand and swim in the clear waters of Bavaro Beach in Punta Cana, a popular resort town where you can enjoy refreshing cocktails and taste the mouth-watering Dominican food. Take a boat tour of Bavaro to snorkel among the reefs and discover the natural pools on the eastern edge of the beach. You can book a seafront resort (many of which have casinos on site) to make the most of your trip. Visit the water parks in the area to play and swim with dolphins in the open sea. – Tripadvisor

- Richard BEdinburgh, United Kingdom5,239 contributionsBavaro BeachBavaro Beach is situated in Punta Cana on the East coast of Dominican Republic. A fine stretch of white sand stretching for miles. The beach is well maintained and cleaned regularly - it is in good condition and doesn't suffer from rubbish or plastic littering. A Few beach vendors plying their trade (but not aggressive or pushy). A decent beach with white sand and turquoise waters. Great place to hang out for the winter.Visited January 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten January 24, 2024
- sanju_222323New Jersey16,789 contributionsone of the most popular shorelines in Punta CanaIt is Punta Cana’s main beach and is one of the largest and most popular beaches in the area. The town of Bavaro is lined with small shops and dotted with luxurious all-inclusive resorts. No trip to Punta Cana would be complete without some time spent on its gorgeous beaches. Playa Bávaro. It is one of the most popular shorelines in Punta Cana, with its powdery sands, swaying palm trees, blue waters, and a bevy of amenities, including water sports rentals, dining options, and nearby accommodations. there is so much confusion about where it starts/ends, and entrance to public beaches as 80% of beach areas are occupied by resorts. The beach stretches for 12 miles between Macao and Cabeza de Toro, but keep in mind that there are just four public access points at Corales, El Cortecito, Jellyfish, and Bibi Jagua. Bavaro Beach has several subsections that all have their name. However, they are all connected and you can explore them walking consecutively. El Cortecito and Corales are two of these stretches and are very convenient The clear waters off Bavaro Beach make it ideal for snorkeling, and many hotels on the strip include snorkeling equipment during your stay. don’t imagine it to be a crowded beach. There is always something going on, people are enjoying their beach walks and locals are sitting in the sand, but as the beach is extremely long and wide, you always have more than enough space, and it NEVER feels crowded.Visited February 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten February 23, 2024

Walking along the shore is calming and relaxing even with hundreds of other people around. There are people that come along and clean in front of the different resorts every morning so that the seaweed is gone.Visited February 2024Traveled with familyWritten March 6, 2024

- sjdenham26Toronto, Canada16 contributionsSeaweed still a problem in Mar 2024Stayed at the Meliá Punta Cana Wellness resort. Wonderful hotel and great staff. Beautiful pools. So large there is a shuttle to take you from the front desk/ dinner restaurants to the beachfront and pool. Highly recommend upgrading and getting a room closer to the beach. Biggest issue- the seaweed. Although all the high end hotels clean the beach every morning, there is so much, it's not fun. And by lunch, it's all back again- brought in by the tide. And when you are in the water you get covered in it or you have to wade/swim through it to get to a clean part of the ocean. I hated it. I only went in once as a result. I know they are trying to deal with it but it really ruins the experience. If I had known, I wouldn't have come.Visited March 2024Traveled soloWritten March 30, 2024

I would compare to Playa Del Carmen in Mexico during the seaweed season for color. Definitely not Negril or Cancun in color but nice and blessed to have been able to visit.Visited November 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten July 30, 2024

The only slight down-side - our Spanish isn’t very good & felt at times, that we were treated differently because of this. I’ll try to learn more for our next visit😊 xVisited August 2024Traveled with familyWritten August 12, 2024

we stayed at the Royalton Bavaro which is set just off the beach. This area is all private for resort use only and many beds and entertainment is laid out for their customers. The sand is white and soft and the sea beautiful shades of blue and warm. Be careful though as there can be a strong current and you can get dragged off easily. The only problem although there is security is the sales people trying to intice you into a bargain or a picture. There are also many water sports available for hire. A great beach for a long walk.

My wife and I recently completed a week's vacation to "Be Live" all inclusive in Punta Cana/Bravaro. The accommodations at Be Live included great food (better than most all-inclusives in D.R.) The resort is right on the beach with plenty of shade areas and loungers (but go reserve your loungers and palapa by 7:00a.m.! After 9:a.m. they are hard to find!). Each night the resort included 2 to 3 one hour long free entertainment shows and or live music. This rates 4 star not 5, but at the affordable price of trip it was well worth it! Arrange for the 1.5 hour Time Share presentation and say "no", and you still have the advantage of a 4 night/5 day resort package! The beach is very swimmable, no waves or shore break, and great daily excursion options too. This resort has both family areas, and adults only areas which made it very comfortable. I took lots of good photos which I'd be happy to share DLDBOB@AOL.com

Bavaro beach flea market was ok. The pricing was much higher than the local flea markets and they weren’t willing to negotiate as much. They do have white Hennessy but wanted $120US (only place I’ve seen it since we’ve been here) The beach was nice. We took a tour with a local tour guide on the beach for $100US to swim with sting rays, sharks, observe the dolphins, and swim in the natural pool, they promised a snorkeling spot which we never went to.They did let my husband drive the small speed boat to the dolphin holding place just off the beach. They did have options for party boats, parasailing, and an expensive restaurant (NOVA Beach Club) that wasn’t good in my option.

Bavaro Beach is special...it was the first place I experienced the Caribbean sea and the pristine beaches that make it the paradise that it is. My first experience was that of a jet lagged tourist awake at 5am having only arrived to the Dominican Republic 7 hours before I was sat in bed, eyes wide open when I seen the sky turning to lighter shade of blue.
I knew the likelihood of actually getting back to sleep was not going to happen, so instead threw on some clothes and strolled down stairs and onto the beach. It was quiet, cool and serene. Yes at that time of the morning there is some seaweed, but there are also teams clearing it with rakes ready for the busy day ahead.
Strolling along the sand, it was already warm to the touch, scrunching between my toes it was soft and not grainy and rocky like you get in the Uk. I sat perched on the edge of a sun lounger and watched as a couple of other people walked along the waters edge and the maintenance teams cleared the seaweed.
I sat and watched out to the sea whilst the warm breeze swept across my face and the sky turned from the light blue tone to a warm pink. After a few minutes the sun broke the horizon and glided across the rolling waves braking on the shore. It was relaxing and peaceful and a moment of bliss.
Returning to the beach later in the day around 11am it was clear the quiet and peaceful time I had earlier that day was not going to be the case but instead the beach had transformed into a bright, vibrant and energetic place to be. Music playing, people sipping cocktails and swimmers galore it was a place to enjoy.
Occasionally there are the odd sellers walking the shoreline offering cigars, photo's with animals but not often enough to become irritating and they were quick to move on if you were uninterested in their offering.
This beach is the one to be at, I was very fortunate and was staying at a resort on this beach and as such enjoyed it at all times of day in its quietest and most energetic forms!

I was pretty disappointed by the following:
1. Seaweed
The amount of seaweed is insane, you can't even get into the water. Only one beach we saw that were cleaning it well, the rest are not cleaned much.
2. Every step you make someone is trying to sell you something
The other thing I didn't like is that you can't just lay down on the beach or walk, every step you make someone is trying to sell you something and this can be really frustrating because they won't leave you alone even if you say "No, Thank you".
3. Food
It's really hard to find a good restaurant with good & fresh food. We have been here for over a month and haven't found one. Food is bad, drinks are made of mixes and too sugary.
4. Prices
For what you get you pay more. It's not cheap here but I consider to be expensive just because of the quality you get

Incredibly beautiful. Turquoise water. Tides make the gold beach grow or shrink twice daily. Palm tree forests hide the buildings of the inland resorts. While sunbathing, walking, swimming in the ocean or sailing you may believe it is totally wild and natural all along the shore. Still very clean despite big crowds of vacationers sunbathing or walking along the waterfront. Cleaned daily by motorized teams. Spectacular sunrises, different every morning. Warm water all year around, swimming possible even in winter. Nice warm breeze eases strong insolation, occasional clouds are irrelevant. Make sure to wear sunscreen, hats and other protrective clothes; many careless people with serious burns can be seen around!

We have been to Bavaro Beach, Punta Cana several times over the last 4 years. We have stayed at Bahia Principe Ambar, Occidental Puna Cana and Bavaro Beach Resort and walked about a mile and a half in both directions from the resorts. It is one of the nicest beaches we have found. Some times of the year it has a lot of sargassum seaweed. Last year, it had some severe storms and a lot of the beach and Palm Trees were washed away but the beach seems to be coming back. Most of the Resorts have not reopened so the beach is not raked so it is not as nice for walking but you can walk for miles if you want.
DR has changed it's requirements for tourists. You do not need to get a COVID-19 test before arriving. You must fill out a health questionnaire and they will do random testing of passengers before immigration. The resorts are doing everything they can to prevent the spread of all infectious diseases. If you are afraid of getting sick, hide in your basement. If you want to live go on vacation.

Had an amazing experience here at Paradisus, the waiters are very attentive. The entertainers are always in point and great company, especially Luis Cordero, Leo Boy, Renardo GPS, and the choreographer Oscar Arias. The bartenders in the Ave Bar always willing to help (Lucia Diaz, Yomairy Vasquez, Reobert Camilo)

Stunning beach. Parts have seaweed, however most hotels move this each morning. The beach is a beautiful shade of blue later in the afternoon. We even saw turtles swimming. Many pelicans flying and diving to grab a fish. Sunrise is a must. If you're coming from England, you will be awake already because of time difference - even better if you're are a runner.

Noisiest resort we have ever been to! All music was played way beyond acceptable volume and all coming from different areas at once! Not a place for non smokers as only restrictions in rooms and even that is not monitored! Not a place for persons with mobility issues! Beach was crowded with beach chairs cramped together in many rows. Again, noise and smoking an issue. Lots of seaweed and debris. Housekeeping very poor. Bathrooms old and in need of repair. Very poor bed pillows and dirty floors and again… noise. Staff talk loudly and shout to each other starting at 6 am!
Food okay, not great. Dishes and cutlery often dirty. Service in main buffet slow.
The entire property consists of several hotels that look very similar but access is decided by the colour of your bracelet. Very confusing and uexplained. Often felt discriminated.
If you are looking to relax this is not the place!

Can I go Bavaro Beach, if I don't stay in the hotel

Hello Kevin sorry for the late response. There is a lot of seaweed all year round on this side of the island. So not possible to swim most of the time. The problem is that all the beaches are private and that the hotels, resorts, recover with a tractor every early morning all these algae which they reject a little further on the few small ends of the island accessible only for the Dominicans. It is a place with a lot of insecurity where corruption reigns, drug problems, gratuitous attacks more and more common with stones, pistols or machetes, even wild ambushes or home jacking. If you are white you are regularly threatened everywhere on the island, for small things and not to mention the street vendors who harass you or are on the lookout for the right moment for the pick pocket. Dominicans are most of time very lazy and don't mingle with you because they consider you outcasts or they want to take advantage of you with a smile and a knife behind their back. They are racist, espacially towards the poor Haitians wha are fleeing the violence and whom they use as slaves to do their dirty work. A place to avoid for a few decades unfortunately. People are violent, deceitful and treacherous. We will never set foot on this island again. We recommend Madagascar or Sri Lanka, which is much more tolerant, pleasant and magnificent.

Hi ! What part of the beach is the most beautiful ? (Clean, calm water, white sand, palm trees ....) Going for the first time with a 5 years old kid, and we don't know what hotel to pick. Beach is the most important for us.
There are 20 + hotels and all of them are advertising their location as Bavaro Beach.

Pretty much all of bavaro beach is really nice, depending on season there can be a seafood problem of sargassum it’s a really annoying seaweed but the whole carribean has been suffering from it last 4 years. This Saturday was pretty good the weed was minimal. But I stay in the Los corales area of the beach so it’s become my favorite. Good luck with your travels.

Hi, planning to go to PC late april 2022. Melia or bahia principe. Will the seaweed be a big problem like in Mexico ? Or my toddlers will still be able to play in the water w/o the smell ? Sorry for the redondant question, but we dont want to waste 6k for no beach :(

I think that those big chains have placed nets around their beaches to stop seaweed from coming up to the shore. Thanks for asking and have a nice holiday season!

I read a comment that you are only allowed to walk ghe Beach but private access is limited to sunbathe, as resorts prevent access. Is the beach public, and can you set up chairs under a tree and sunbathe?
Written March 1, 2022
As long as you can find public access to the beach you are fine. Obviously if you are not staying at a hotel, they will not let you cut through their property which makes sense. Not sure where there is public access though.
