So far I had never heard about this castle. One day I was searching on google for the 10 most beautiful castles of Portugal, and on that occasion I got to know about Almourol castle... As I was driving from Castelo Branco to Santarém, the...More

The castle is built on a small island in the Tagus River which has been the site of various fortifications, dating back to the Romans in the 1st century BC. The current design dates back to 1171, when it was remodelled by the Knights Templar....More

A definite stop on the Templar history tour. Make sure to go to the correct pier to take the small boat across - pay the boatman the couple of Euros for ticket. The road signs can be misleading, and direct to the pier where reserved...More

To be able to visit, you have to cross the river with a boat. But you can certainly enjoy the views from both margins. Very picturesque castle.

This castle is really interesting. It is on a small island in the Tagus River near Praia do Ribatejo. Beautiful views from the top. It was stunning on a sunny day.

Yes. I cant see why not. The interior is small and I seem to remember a dog water bowl at the gate. It would be a great place to take a dog. views are great as well!
