We had a great family beach day here. It's a long beach, so you can be in areas where lots of people are or secluded. It is windy, but it makes it feel comfortable when you are sitting in the sun. My boys loved jumping in the waves. We all enjoyed watching the kite surfers-many of whom did amazing tricks and would zoom around the boys. At one point, we counted over 60 kites in the sky. It made for a fun day in many ways.

Cabarete is beautiful, we stayed outside of town at Kite Beach and at Orilla Del Mar and took the guagua into Cabarete or walked occasionally. Cabarete beach has the most restaurants, shopping, and nightlife. We found ourselves there quite often and found it easy to get around once we figured it out.

This expansive beach is not crowded, but not empty either. There are lots of kite boarders to watch, 30-40 spread over a wide are. Beautiful and entertaining to watch. The wave action can be quite vigorous at times but fun to fight. Watch for some undertow in certain conditions and places.

Went to watch the kite boarders and windsurfers, while enjoying the sunshine. Had a wonderful beachside bed, and really enjoyed watching the activities all around us. There were some beach vendors, but like most Dominicans, they were very friendly and polite. We ate a wonderful meal at the Calypso restaurant right on the beach. I had an excellent fettucine Alfredo, which was very creamy and flavorful. The service was good too. This is a fun beach to visit, but often not great for swimming as there can be large waves and many boards on the water. We were there a second evening later in the week, when the waves were much calmer, and we could have swum had we brought our suits... but from what I’ve heard, this is more unusual for this beach.

I went to the DR for springbreak with a group of friends and had the best time of my life. The weather was unbelievable. I got increadibly tan, and the sun was prefect, not too hot at all. The people were gorgeous and I met people from all over the world. I stayed at Viva Tangerine which is a new resort. It was amazing, so nice. Beautiful rooms, decent food, good service. The nightlife in Cabarete is superb. 4 major clubs right in a row on the beach. Cheap drinks, good music. I can't wait to go back. Reccommend it to anyone.

I went to Cabarete the first week of June 2004 to windsurf. I made my hotel reservations and windsurfing package through Vela Windsurf Resort (velawindsurf.com). The reservation staff in the US was excellent. They can answer any questions you have about the properties available. This was only the second time for me to windsurf, so I got the beginner's package. This was offered at a discount and included one free lesson. After my first lesson, I could use the equipment anytime I wanted. Several staff were on hand to answer questions and assist with the equipment. They also have a bar where you can get an EXCELLENT meal and drinks and such. And at the store you can buy windsurfing gear, as well as, souveniers. Be sure to make your windsurfing reservations (even if you won't be booking your accomodations through them) before you arrive. You definitely get a better deal if you take care of it ahead of time. The windsurfing staff and facilites were the best in the area. Several places had either equipment that looked old and severly used or the staff couldn't communicate clearly. The Vela windsurf staff speak several languages and welcome all types of people. You don't have to have any experience to have a great time. Don't miss the Vela Windsurf Center!

This is a very beautiful beach, however I just wanted to bring to light an urgent problem. It concerns some of the tour operators doing horse back riding tours from Cabarete beach to Encuentro beach.
Please do not pay for your horse riding tour until you have seen the condition of the horses you are about to ride. Please make sure that you ask to see the horses with their saddles off before you choose to ride. Many are in dire condition with open saddles sores and malnourished. This is much harder to see with a saddle already on. If a provider cares about his horses he should have no problem letting you see the animal with the saddle off.
The following pictures are hard to see. These animals got this way because tourist continue to ride them. Please put a stop to this.
There are many good outfits in town, so make an informed decision, don't continue to contribute to this abuse!!!!

Our family visited Cabarete for two weeks Dec.\04. We had a wonderful time on the beach, checking out the small shops, resturants, grocery stores and nightclubs. We staying at the windsurf resort which can be traded into through interval international. It is a smaller, very friendly resort with pool, bar, resturant and bbq area. A great place to get away and relax!!

between 2 and 3 dollar which is 100-150 peso. Some don't charge if you buy something from their restaurant. Always ask
Are there umbrellas on the beach for shade

Cabarete no está influenciada para nada por la situación de HaitÃ. Es una playa muy segura y tranquila entre las mejores del mundo para hacer ketsurf.

Hello! Yes, Cabarete Beach is great for swimming. You will want to follow all of your common sense safety swimming rules, such as not swimming alone and being aware of rip currents.

Hi! I am researching a vacation for 6 adults ages 25-60. What we want: rent a villa on the beach walking distance to nightlife (clubs are fun but we prefer live music and/or layer back vibes). So far cabarete seems perfect. We loved playa Del carmen for its strip of restaurants, bars and shopping. My concern is if caberete has enough of the restaurant/bar/shopping scene to keep it exciting? Will it be lively at end of January? Are food/drinks expensive (in US$)? Are there folks in their 50's there? Any live music? Walking on the beach safe? Even if it's touristy is there still a feel for the culture? Sorry so many questions...just really trying to get a feel for how we would fit in and if we would stay entertained! Thank you so much for any advice and info!

Hello Keri7272,
Right now I'm living at DR and we were there for few days during July.
Here are your answers:
My concern is if caberete has enough of the restaurant/bar/shopping scene to keep it exciting?
Yes, although I must say that after two weeks, you probably will know all the places because Cabarete is a small town.
Will it be lively at end of January? Yes, in fact, the peak season is from December to February. It will be a lot of people, believe me.
Are food/drinks expensive (in US$)? No really, but it really depends on your taste. You will find few really expensive places but also a lot of fit to budget too. Remember this is a small town dedicated to water sports. Must athletes travel with limited budget.
Are there folks in their 50's there? Yes, specially from Europe. You will be able to find a lot of people from Germany.
Any live music? Right now I'm pretty sure that you can find live music on weekends night, but during the peak season, you can also find during weekdays.
Walking on the beach safe? Yes, but at night is safer to walk where all the restaurants and shops are.
Even if it's touristy is there still a feel for the culture? sort of, because there are a lot of people from Europe trying to get warm in the winter. In this point, my suggestion is to take a taxi or guide tour the Puerto Plata, that will be 20 min ride from Cabarete. There you will see the culture from first hand, also you can some interesting places like the Cable Car (the only one at the Caribbean), San Felipe Fort, Larimar Museum, etc.
Any other question, just let me know.

I would like to know if there are the classic in cabarete Caribbean colors or not? from the pictures it looks dark sand and the sea is not nice

Hi. Cabarete beach is quite Caribbean colored, however it's amber sand (not white) and the sea can be very windy and wavy, as Cabarete is a beach mainly for windsurfing and kitesurfing. If you're looking for the white sand, clear light blue waters from the post cards, try Las Terrenas or Punta Cana.

We are on a cruise ship and from Amber Cove which beach? Sousa? or Cabarate for a day? Or try the 27 waterfalls?

If you're adventurous, do the waterfalls, but it's kind of a high thrill (as you will be required to jump off some cliffs) and there's a lot of walking involved. If not, both Sosua and Cabarete are great beaches, the main difference between them would be that Sosua is more of a family-friendly beach, as it's quieter and more swimmable. Cabarete has more waves and wind, and there's a lot of kitesurfing going on, so you'll find a younger crowd there.
