Excellent local museum - lots of interesting items, giving insight into the history of the Southern Thailand region. Recommended for any school visit with students.

The building is really gorgeous and the exhibits are informative. The highlists for me were the Sriwijaya period statues and the Chinese exhibits. There's even a play area for children to draw. Do note that there's no air-conditioning and there's a dual pricing system (speaking Thai didn't help for myself).

The museum is in the house of a former governor and is just over a hundred years old. Like much of the region it is strongly influenced by the Chinese. The museum through a number of small rooms and displays gives a history of the region and especially its rise and fall. The ability of Thai royalty to change perceptions and actuality is significant. Displays are pictorial and have that and English commentaries. There are attendants but with little English but to be fair the displays are self explanatory. Worth an hour although very hot in summer as fans were switched off. Relatively expensive for visiotors but worth an hour of time. Good brochure in admissions price.

The entrance and buildings were great but exhibition wise not as great as at the Folklore Museum at Koyo Island. Here it exhibit Songkhla history from early years-how this land become an important port for trading, different types of religion, the conquer and conquest of the different kingdom. There is a Cafe and toilet on the premise. I recommend to visit here and Folklore Museum to have a better picture of the early years of the region and area.
