We reached this temple on a taxi tour to the golden triangle and the old temples in Chiang Saen. There are a number of ruins nearby, but this appeared to be the best maintained. Wat Chedi Luang was once, Chiang Saen’s main temple. There is a large chedi and the ruins of a wiharn nearby. There appears to be some renovation going on here, with a new roof visible and a new Buddha image installed, although the sides of the hall are still open. There are a number of tall trees here giving shade to the area.
Chiang Saen National Museum, Wat Phra Buat, Wat Mung Muang and Wat Maha That, are all within walking distance of Wat Chedi Luang. We visited all this ruins but the museum was closed for renovation. It took us about 1 hour to walk around and capture some pictures of this area.

Some of the reviews and photos are clearly wrong showing the similarly-named temple in Chiang Mai. That being said, this is a well-preserved ancient temple next to Chiang Saen National Museum. There is some ongoing construction of a new temple next to it. Atmospheric temple that is worth a visit.

Chiang Saen, located right at the northern tip of Thailand, facing Laos, is a slow-paced, riverside town of considerable charm. Scattered around town are a variety of time-weathered temples, showing Thai, Mon and even Burmese influence. Wat Chedi Luang has a towering 16th century chedi (a kind of brick stupa), which is very Thai in style. The wat itself has not survived the years, though the brick foundations and a few statues survive, sheltered now by a corrugated iron superstructure. As the previous reviewer, indicated, it is worth a look if you are in the vicinity though it is certainly not a first rank site.

Lucky for the opportunity to visit one if the oldest temples here. Due to flooding, part of it suffered ruins. Nevertheless, still a timeless beauty and a peaceful place of worship

The Impressive Temple with octagonal base of the imposing 18m-high chedi itself is classic Chiang Saen style was built by King Saen Phu, the 3rd ruler of the Lanna kingdom in early 13th Century. The Temple is under restoration but worth having a look its interesting history. There were several monks around the compound. We saw this Temple as a tour with driver/guide Jermsak who was incredibly knowledgeable gave us some fascinating history including Chiang Saen, Chiang Rai and life of the Buddhist.

Brilliant! Ancient temple that is presently being rebuilt. Well worth the visit. This temple is likely over 700 years old. The main cheddi is one of the largest and tallest in all of Thailand. Today, there is a team of people restoring the temple.

The Bodhi tree in the temple compound is also one of the oldest in Thailand.

There are centuries old trees growing over the bases and foundation walls of these ruins.

Dating back to 1331 (or 1291, depending on the account you believe), Wat Chedi Luang is certainly worth a look-see if in Chiang Saen. Located next to the Chiang Saen Museum, the grass-covered chedi is 197 feet (58m) tall, and the temple, complete with new roof, is still in use today by the local residents. Inside are three nice buddha images and we even met a monk who blessed us.

We took a tour of the Golden Triangle from Chiang Rai and it was mostly a wasted half day.

This temple was the only highlight. It is ancient and is located on a very peaceful site. It only takes a few minutes to visit.

A beautiful temple like all the Wat's I visited. Beautiful inside and out. Plenty of smaller Wat's around the main temple to see. This one has a large Pagoda that was damaged in an earthquake that is magnificent to see. There is an entry fee of 40 Baht. Must see

We did a temple tour of here Wat Suan Dok and Wat Phrathat Doi Suthep on the mountain.
Was great to have a guide as she could explain the history of the temples so would def recommend that if possible
Probably not just as much to see as at some other temples but still good to go too as I thought was so different from the others
