An excellent view and terrific photo opportunity. Arrive early to avoid the congestion of others. Cable car tickets must be purchased on site the day of use and the earlier the better.

This is a really nice rock formation at one end of the large valley for Seoraksan. The cable car ride up was breathtaking, as well as the views from the viewing area and the 'Fortress'. There is no actual fortress and is wholly naturally formed, but it is worth the 5-10 minutes extra walk from the top of the cable car to view. Bring sturdy shoes for this, as the rock surface can be smooth and steep.

We visited by way of the cable car and you can enjoy lovely views throughout the 5 minute journey. You can see mountains all around and the lovely temple nestled in the valley, as well as the giant buddah. Then there is a hike to near the top of the rock via a walkway, so it is not too difficult (less than 1km). Once there you can see great veiws of the surrounds and even have your photo taken by the photographer there. To get right to the peak there is a steep climb via some ropes and there is an attendant at the top watching to make sure people do it safely. It was rather windy the day I went so I did it very slowly but the views were totally worth it - 360 deg from mountains to sea, stunning.
It was starting to get quite crowded by the time we went down (about 10.30am) and it would be a bit scary if there are a lot of people as there are no safety railings around the edge. If it is too windy they don't operate the cable car. We arrived before 9.30am and got the next cable car to arrive but if it is busy you get allocated a time and have to wait. My advice is arrive as early as possible (It starts a 7am I think).

We bought a round trip cable car ticket for 9000won and went up 670m in just 5 minutes. When the Mongolians invaded in 1254, King Gojong of the Goryeo's reign dynasty, people took refuge here and the fortress was built to guard against their enemies. Now only some remnants of the old fortress remain. However, visitors can enjoy great views all around. Visitors can see the forest, rocks, mountains, the East Sea and the shores of Sokcho

I went up with cable car, there is no much effort. The scenic views are beautiful both from cable car and top of mountain. Need to purchase ticket earlier as the number of visitor are a lot.

With the cable car there is almost no effort to get there. Yes, there is a little .3km hike from the cable car drop off point but it was pretty easy. There were heaps of old people and little kids (that should tell you something) but the views from the VERY top were amazing!!!

Tip: avoid weekends as the lines at the cable car can get HUGE (like an hour wait) or get there before the huge group tours arrive around 9am.

Suggest to go early in the morning to take the cable car, which costs 10000won for a two way trip. Bear in mind to check out the seorak cable car website before coming, as the opening hours of the cable car change across each day.

From the cable car, it's an upslope climb of about 10 to 15minutes, but is generally manageable as there are stairways and walking path provided.

There is a snack bar at the cable car station at the top. At the ground level, there is a cafe within the cable car station, which is a good and reasonably-priced lunch spot after coming down from the ride.

At the top, it can be windy so be mindful especially when taking photos. But overall, its a good view from the top of Sokcho and surrounding mountain ranges.

For the mountain scenery, I would gladly pay for the cable car ride and climb up the mountain. You'll still have to hike up a short while after the cable car ride, but trust me it is worth it.

Firstly, don't get your hopes up of seeing a fortress as I guess that is the name of the peak rather than indicating a structure. That said, this is a must see for anyone visiting the park. Whether you are an avid hiker, are young or old, you will enjoy the ride up in the modern and efficient cable car. There are wonderful views on the ride up and from the viewing platforms at the upper cable car station and the peak itself. A short walk and a few steps get you to the peak. There are refreshments available and I can recommend the waffles!
