i am quite well travelled so when i say that this would have to be one of the worst museums i have ever been to well it's on the bottom of the list of over 600.

don't waste your time coming even if you have a couple of hours to kill up your sleeve.

if you really want to go here are some things to keep in mind.

no english information upon arrival. no handouts nothing that will help you guide yourself.

if you bring a large bag there is no bag check in

none of the information counters are manned

the only word of english on big information boards is the word "information" everything else is in korean.

We visited here on a rainy day thinking it would be a good place to escape the rain. It's not really as there is quite a bit located outside (the village) and the museum is split into two buildings. Around 40% of the displays didn't have any English translations which sadly included the exhibits that I was most interested in. The kids part of the museum was enjoyed by my son.

We decided to take a break from hiking and visited this surprisingly interesting museum which included a replica village which offered overnight stays at $40 USD, a tower, and a second museum. Admission was only 2000 won. The number 3 and 3-1 bus will drop you off quite close to the complex. The displays which mostly dealt with the history of the region were well done and laid out in an easy manner. We really liked the children's section which had this one display which allowed children to dress up in traditional costumes and have their picture taken which then may be emailed to your address. You may wish to take a cab back into town. We waited quite awhile for the bus and gave up after 20 minutes.

We ve been to SokCho lots of times but never visited this place. We went there w.out plan. Luckily when we arrived there traditional farmers music performance just started. That was very exciting. There are activities for the children and my son enjoyed it.

A well laid out informative, modern museum giving insight into the local history. Much better than expected, great view from the tower and with some traditional dancing performance. Not all info is in English.
We did it independently, the best deal would be doing as part of the Sokcho city tour, however then there is limited time.

Replica of the housing in the 50's and 60's . Has pictures of the Sokcho area in the 1950 and how it looks today. Has a multi-storey tower that you can go up and get a good view of the Sokcho area.

The size was not too small, or too big. The size was enough to look around in 1~2 hours. If you stay in Hanwha Resort, you can visit their after eating. It is divided into three big parts. One was "The history of Balhae", another was "Reproduction of 1950's", and the other was "The musem of Sokcho's history". It was good place to look around without too big expectation.
