Upper Kachura Lake really is beautiful. It is easily accessed by car, with plenty of car parking areas available. From the parking area there is a short walk to the lake and this walk takes you past local stall holders selling locally sourced and handmade products. There are also places to stop to enjoy drinks or snacks.
The point where you first see you the lake affords you an amazing elevated view. It is breathtakingly beautiful. From this position to get down to the lake level you need to traverse quite a number of steep concrete stairs. If a visitor struggles with mobility then this would present an issue. It is worthy of pointing out that the water level of the lake alters depending on the time of year. In July and August I was informed that much of the mountain snow has melted, meaning that the lake is much fuller with water.
I visited in May. The mountains were still snow capped and the water levels lower.
Once down at the lake level there are plenty of boats of all different sizes eager to take you on a boat tour of the lake. This is really worth doing and not expensive.
I was so fortunate when I visited, it was very quiet and the boat I chose was the only one on the lake. Have such a beautiful place more or less to yourself is such a privilege.
It is such a beautiful lake, so serene and picturesque. You cannot visit Skardu without visiting this lake

Nice views of Upper Kachura Lake, Can get a boat ride, different boats had different prices, I think I paid 3000 Rs for ours.
A small walk from the car park, through a small cafe with a very poor, dirty toilet. Then some steps downhill (no sides/barriers) and so quite worrying. People struggled to go down and even more coming back up. The views when down are beautiful and a nice boat ride too. Very small area to sit and enjoy the views. Some people jumped into the lake for a swim.
Not too far from main Skardu

I fitted in a short visit here when my flight from Skardu was delayed by several hours and we had time to kill. We walked from a parking area through some woods and along a stream for about 10 mins, and had a simple lunch in a cafe over looking the lake. It wasn’t gourmet, we just had pakoras, chicken and fries, but tasty and inexpensive.

I wouldn’t say the lake is worth an extensive detour but it was a good place to kill some time as we had already seen Skardu town. On the way up, you’ll pass Lower Kachura, the heart shaped lake (sort of). It’s more developed, and apparently an aspirational honeymoon destination!

Lake Kachura, heart-shaped, is a small natural reservoir even if it looks artificial. It's a holiday resort for Pakistanis who flock here in droves. The area is full of small guesthouses and guest houses. The lake is no big deal, a bit ruined by the surrounding over-urbanization, but evidently Pakistanis think differently from me.

Must visit place when you are in Skardu. Lots of activities; speed boat, jet ski, zip line, swimming. Drifting in a speed boat was the highlight! The place is happening yet has a calmness to it. Just sitting under the trees, enjoying the lake view feels very relaxing. Its a smaller and less commercial version of Attabad lake Hunza

It has been twice that i visited this place and everytime it gave an unforgettable experience.
A beautiful lake, preserved its natural beauty as it is, gives one of the most scenic views that one may have experienced.
Boating is one of the main activities. Complete boat can be booked for 2000 rupees (around $15).
A place called Nazara Hotel is just a small hike away from lake. Its peaceful ppace which serves the trout fish. Fish and view of the lake is the prize of this hotel that is worth every penny.

A peaceful lake, indeed. We visited last year in season.
There are two main lakes in the Skardu, The Upper Kachura and Lower Kachura. The Upper Kachura Lake is the most unexplored by tourists.
Lower Kachura Lake is the more visited out of the two, with tourists visiting all year round.

I visited it in October 2019 during my stay in Shangrila (Lower Kachura Lake). The lake is towards west of Lower Kachura and at an elavated place. It took us almost 15 minute by car to main parking and another 7 minutes to the lake. You will find a peaceful hotel with a western view of the lake and baat riding at the base of lake. Lake presented peaceful ambience during autumn with colorful tree leaved (yellow, Green and Orangish Red) .

We spend two hours there and then went on to see Katapana desert and Katpana Lake.

Fairyland lake in between the majestical Skardu Valley mountains. It takes around 15 minutes walk from the Parking to Lake and one really enjoys that walk as track passes through beautiful village and Fruit tree jungle. The lake has boating options of different type of charged boats and few restaurants in Surroundings. We enjoyed the memorable boat ride and Fresh appricots from trees .
