We went to see the morning prayers and arrived at 6.20am after they had started and could hear the chanting from the street which made us run up the many steps to get into the monastery- would recommend arriving for 6am to enjoy the full thing! Such an experience to be part of and an amazing setting. Bring good shoes as there are lots of steps and walking as the site is big! Great to walk to and the surrounding areas are worth exploring especially the prayer flag forest! …

Beware of the angry rude Lama!, he will catch you walking up the stairs towards the dining room even though there is no sign saying that must take your shoes off before even going upstairs, Then he will check that you have eaten every last grain of rice and if you haven`t he will run down to catch you, scold and be rude to you, and if you try to talk he will shake his finger at you and call you a liar. Very uncomfortable so we left early the next morning…

This is a must do - we were able to enter the temple during the morning ceremonies with monks of all ages - kids to adults. The temple is absolutely stunning and awe inspiring. The walk down to the villages is great as is the village.

We stayed at the Namo Buddha Resort and walked to the monastery for the evening service. The service mantras were accompanied by big drums and horns. A tea and bread was offered by younger monks.. Later you could see monks dancing on a lower level ‘playground’.
