This is the pick of the Bagan Pagodas and naturally the busiest. Amazing gold covering made this so impressive to see. There is plenty to see in the surrounds of the complex as well , including an original wooden door dating back to 1089 AD and other golden statues from the time of worship before Buddha

The Shwezigon Pagoda is one of the oldest and most impressive monuments of Bagan, which was just 2 km from our hotel.Inside the temple complex, there are many temple buildings topped with an intricately decorated Burmese roof made of several receding layers. We came across this huge barrel drum, a musical instrument locally called Samphor, in the temple complex.

We went there on our way to Bagan. And where not sure about the visit. However it resulted in one of the most impressive temples I have ever visited. Keep in mind you need to take your shoes and socks off and ware conservative clothes to go inside.

Of all temples, it was definitely the most beautiful and impressive one.

Definitely worth visiting, especially since it’s free like all the other temples in Bagan.

Be careful though, there is a famous scam at the entrance: women yelling at you and trying to get you to go with them to the "Lucky Bouddha". The scam consists in giving you a plate of food, make you throw it in the air for luck and asking you 5K for it. We avoided it but be careful, simply decline the offer.

Unlike most pagodas in Bagan which are red stone or a white stupa, this is more traditionally covered in gold colour and in a busy part of the town with easy access so quite a lot of tourists. Amazingly this was originally completed in 1102. It is a large site with many pagodas and buildings, a delightful colourful place. You will definitely be asked for your Bagan zone ticket here, one of the few places where we were actually asked for it.

This is a huge pagoda complex in Bagan. It includes the main pagoda and also many smaller temples. The atmosphere is very inspiring and devotional, with many devotees circumambulating, chanting, offering incense or meditating around the pagoda.

There is a huge variety of architectures of the smaller temples and the main pagoda, which makes it so unique and a must visit.

There is a walkway from the main Bagan road (leading to other main temples like Ananda temple), which goes via a number of markets selling Burmese traditional clothes, lacquerware etc.

The pagoda can get a little crowded in the evenings.

All in all, this beautiful golden pagoda is a must see for all visitors to Bagan.

Shwezigon Pagoda was built by King Anawrahta. But it was completed by King Kyansittha. It is one of the most important pagodas in Myanmar and also a landmark of Bagan. Buddha's tooth was relic in the Pagoda. This Pagoda style is 11th century architecture style.

Spend about 1-2 hours. Stunningly beautiful temple with plenty of photo opportunities. However, it's very crowded, so be patient to get those photos. No shoes of course; so have disinfecting wipes to clean your feet when you're finished.

I went there in the evening and the lights were up. The pagoda was beautifully lit and it was also good to walk around without the hot sun above.
