Our first sighting of Tau Tau - really fascinating to see. Look for the carver's shop when walking to see the rock graves. Not sure how easy it would be to get here if you don't have a driver to bring you though.

Like many of the sites in Toraja its a most interesting area with the focus being the hanging cemeteries and the Tau Tau - the doll replica's of those interred in the coffins hanging from the cliffs. The village is easy to get to and well worth a visit.

Marante located approximately 3 km from the city center of Rantepao. We had to pay 10 thousand rupiah for admission. On the way to the cemetery cliffs, we saw ancient tau-tau, is colorless. According to the information, people who died here caused by a bomb or a deadly virus at the time. Too bad there are no tourist facilities or means of good interpretation.
