Bromo and Ijen are absolutely stunning and this was a great trip. Anto, our guide, was fantastic - his background as a miner in Ijen gave us a whole new depth to the experience and it was fascinating to learn from his personal experiences. Him and our driver, Mr Pandi, could not have done more for us. They were so helpful and everything ran smoothly. The standard of accommodation is very very basic, however you don't spend much time there. Communication in advance from the company was very good.

Travelled solo, ijen expedition team did a great job starting picking up from Bali, hiking ijen and dropping off at Bali. A day before, went hiking batur and was bit skeptical if I could make another hike with 24 hours itinerary. Aming was patient enough with me and guided the hike. Great views from mountain too and one of the rare places to see blue fire. Recommended if you are a hiker or nature lover.

Ijen Expedition Tours were quick to reply and stayed in constant communication through WhatsApp as I arrived and during the whole visit. My guide, Sony, was beyond excellent. He crammed more activity and sights into a day than I've been able to do on my own on other trips. Fantastic conversation, expert with camera work. We visited Ijen Crater, various interesting sites along the roads, a sulfur processing plant, a coffee processing site, a local festival, and some hidden swimming gems in the jungle. I left east Java with a feeling of complete amazement and some wonderful new friends.

My husband and I recently did the Blue Fire Tour. Ijen Expedition did a nice job of coordinating our pick up in Ubud, Bali, ferry to Java, ride up to the volcano entrance, and a guide to get to the top. Our driver, Mr. Yanto, was great. We really enjoyed chatting with him and learning more about Indonesia. I appreciated this group's flexibility in allowing me to reschedule at the last minute after getting really sick in Ubud. They were very responsive to any and all of my e-mail inquiries. The hike was great and Mr. Yanto took us to a nice hotel on Java to grab some breakfast. He took great care of us. I highly recommend Ijen Expedition for the Blue Fire Tour. Thanks guys!

Last December, my wife and I booked a tour to see the Ijen Volcano with its blue flames at night, unfortunately we had a horrible time for several reasons:
- Our drivers, two young guys (why two I am still not sure) arrived 2h late without really giving us a reason for that. When we called the office to let them know that they had arrived, we were told that we would get a 5% discount if we arrive too late and miss the blue lights...great start!
- At first, our drivers were friendly, they even asked us a few questions but then it turned out that the only thing that interested them was competing on who would take over the most cars on the road. They would listen to music out loud and cheer each other every time they would do something reckless like overtaking several trucks in a row or doing it in a bend. Of course I complained, twice, but it didn't really change their attitude...they were still in there to get their adrenaline boost. I even thought of lying and tell them that my wife was pregnant, this is how bad we felt...as if we were kidnapped and didn't have any option to stop that hell of a journey.
- When we finally arrived, feeling sick and obviously exhausted after such an awful journey (race!?), we started the hike with one local guide who was waiting for us there. Nice guy and knowledgeable -no complaint about him- except that the first thing the drivers told us when we got back to the camp at like 7am was: 'now you need to pay!'
I couldn't believe my eyes but my wife went to the office and paid anyhow.
- As we drove back, when we thought we would finally get some sleep (not late anymore to catch the ferry), we couldn't sleep as the three men were talking out loud across the car (one was sitting at the back, behind us).
- Finally, once they dropped the guide and were only two, we managed to sleep for a bit. When we woke up, we asked to stop to have a bit of food and a coffee but they literally refused, stopping at petrol stations where there was nothing to eat. I insisted but they started mumbling to each other in their language so I thought I may as well forget about it.
- When we arrived at the hotel, only one of them came out of the car to say bye, as the other was clearly too annoyed by the fact that we didn't let him win the race or something...
All in all, it was a nightmare and I cannot imagine people with kids, or people a bit older than us, accepting such a horrible treatment from two rude and reckless drivers.
Hope that helps...stay away from this company or make sure that they don't give you Ayrton Senna and Alain Prost as drivers!

My girlfriend and I have been to Ijen and it was by far one of our best trips while in Indonesia. It's really a must see when traveling through Java. The hike is quite exhausting, but the view from the top is stunning.
Concerning Ijen Expedition, we would rate the agency itself as satisfying. Pick up at Lovina and drop off in Seminyak was well organized. Nevertheless, the road is really bad, especially on the way back to Bali. A Jeep would be more suitable than a family Van. In Addition, our driver Mr Harry was not good at all. Very careless driver and there could have been easily some accidents on our way back.
If you plan to visit Ijen you really don't need a guide. We had a guide and he was friendly. However, he was always walking behind us and also lost us several times. He didn't provide much information on our hike. If you do some research on your own before, you are definitely better off.

"when the gas surrounds you please dont panic"
Unreal....I did few things before but nothing like this.
My flight was delayed 1 day and they had no problem to change the date,
guides/drivers were professional, email communication good.
Ask for "Mr Sony" the guide, he is a pro and can lead you into the blue fire.
Start your journey before midnight....and bring a proper gas mask (not dust or paint)

Went October 2018 with my 11 year old son. arrived at Banyuwangi on flight from Jakarta and met by Agus (tour guide) and driver. We spent a couple of hours at the cinema there as we had a couple of hours to kill before heading to hotel. Agus and driver drove us everywhere and were always friendly and helpful. They picked us up at midnight at the hotel, went up to Ijen parking area and started the 3 hour trek at 1am. Saw the blue fire and daybreak at 5am. all amazing! wouldn't recommend anyone younger than 11 though as my son was very tired at the end. Agus very professional and was great with my boy. Very efficient service overall, recommend them completely. One warning though; any sulfur sculptures you buy will be confiscated by customs! Martin and Callum.
