Tacky
May 2018 • Solo
It's pretty tacky because there's an absurd amount of restaurants for a small area. The water is pretty dirty and the scenic areas are really small for a museum. I spent about twenty minutes here since there isn't a lot to see.

A very interesting musuem

We spent a few enjoyable hours here during our visit to Nanning and were impressed by the photography and bronze age exhibitions. Most of the exhibits are accompanied by an English translation.

Its free to enter the museum and there is also a restaurant in the garden. (However we didn't eat there so I can't pass comment on it.)

I think this place has been closed. All of the good exhibits have been moved out, The cultural garden beind it has some good examples of traditional architecure. If you can't makeit to the Nationalities Museum, this is a much easier and quicker trip. Oil tea on the bridge is highly recomended. That being said, I don't thing any money has been invested there in 15 years. There haven't been any changes. A replica of the Sultan of Brunei's coronation chariot was kept there for years but it may have been moved. An hour tops, hour and a half if you get the oil tea.

Guangxi Provincial Museum gets down and dirty with the area’s history starting from over 40,000 years ago through a massive collection of some 50,000 relics. Included in the collection is pottery, bronze ware, literature, ceramics and clothing, much of it dating back over 200 years. Being that Guangxi’s population is 38% minority, there is some overlap between the content of the Guangxi Provincial Museum and the Guangxi Museum of Nationalities, but this one is surely worth some of your time. 034

Well worth visiting

Not to be confused with the excellent Museum of Nationalities, which is outside the city, the Provincial Museum is in the centre of Nanning .It displays modern exhibits about the arts and history of Guangxi Province. The porcelain gallery is especially good, and the archaeology section is also remarkable. Interesting temporary exhibits. The museum shop has some interesting reproductions for sale. Free admission. Well worth visiting.

Combine with the museum of nationalities
I've always lived exploring museums everywhere I go, and nanning is no exception.

Spread out over 3 expansive levels, the guangxi provincial museum contains loads and liads of exhibits about the dozen or so minority groups that inhabit guangxi province. Combine your visit here with a trip out to the guangxi museum of nationalities to make the most of your trip.

To see everything, allow yourself about 3 hours.

It was a very relaxing, chilled museum, lots of china, paintings and exhibits to see, lovely set of photos as well! Don't get confused with other museum of culture! Nice gardens to walk around and bronze drums!

Interesting Guangxi Modern Musuem in Nanning
May 2012 • Friends
The provincial museum highlights the 12 ethnic minorities in Guangxi and includes ancient reproductions of cave drawings, drums, brass gongs, typical scenes of weddings, clothing, musical instruments, hunting knives, bows and arrows, spears, and types of foods, agriculture, and culture. It is stored in a modern building with three stories and included a gift craft shop (very expensive but good quality items - three times what we would pay outside), a snack bar, and dining area on the upper floors. It does have wheel chair accessible floors and bathrooms. After I wandered around on my own and it was time to leave, I discovered I could have gotten a headset of prerecorded English, but could not use it because we were departing. The entrance that day was free. Later, we had to leave because a special event was hosting a special dignitary and we had to leave. It was a gorgeous display of aboriginal, or tribal groups in China and I was glad we came. It was also air conditioned throughout all displays. Our host bought our souvenir at the gift shop, an embroidery ball for safe travel and good luck to your house. It is also used in the ritual of a young man wanting to marry a young lady. He calls to her and if she throws the ball out to him and he catches it, she can marry him.

Good Museum
Mar 2012 • Family
Most of the outdoor attractions were under renovation at the time we visited in March 2012, however the museum showed an excellent display of the different minority groups in the Guangxi province. I was impressed by the quality, depth, and variety of the displays. The grounds were very nicely maintained as well.
