I had a 3 day stay in Nanning and was looking for attractions. I am interested in Chinese culture and history, this museum was a logical stop. The museum did not take too long to get too from downtown Nanning. We took a DiDi.
Make sure to have your passport for admission. I forget the admission price but it was reasonable. The museum is easy to see from the road.
The exterior catches your eyes. It is shaped like a bronze drum. It feels like a nice museum as soon as you enter.
We noticed right away that there are a few signs in English but many displays were only in Chinese. I went back to the help desk and requested an English speaking guide. They had one gentleman who spoke some English and he was great. He told me I was his first ever English tour.
The exhibits I liked most were the Bronze drums and the Zhuang culture. The museum hold the largest drum collection in the world and the largest bronze drum in the world. I also learned how important the Bronze Drum was in the ancient culture.
The bathroom only had squat toilets, just so you know.
Behind the museum there are several traditional Chinese buildings. Including the famous Wind, Rain Bridge. Don’t miss it.

The guangxi museum of nationalities is a wonderful place, with exhibits spread out over several levels. The highlights were the reconstructed models of traditional houses as used by the various minority groups.
To make the most of your visit, you should allow for at least 2-3 hours.
The museum is a little ways out from the city centre, so most likely you'll need to take a taxi, but the free entry makes up for it.

The Anthropology Museum of Guangxi is the best place to learn about the Bronz Drum and Zhuang Cultures of the region. The exhibitions are very well organized and easy to understand with both Chinese and English. The displays are just enough for the audience to know about the Zhuang nation. The building is very well designed to reflect the story it is telling. Visitors need to spend some time outdoor waling in the display garden where 10 most representative traditional ethnic buildings are being exhibited. Half-a-day should be enough for all people unless you are a serious museum visitors.

What an educational experience this was to learn about all the ethnic minorities of China. The displays are interesting, though English signage were far and few in between.
Best of all, admission is free upon presentation of your passport.
It is located a bit far from the city center, and I was lucky to have caught a taxi ride back afterwards. Keep the phone number of the taxi company handy just in case!

This museum deals with the many non Han Chinese minorities that populate Guangxi province. The exhibits were well presented - native dress, the famous drums of Dong people, silver jewellery etc. It's not boring and 2 hours can be easily spent here. Note that passports are required for admission ( I don't know why)

This is probably one of the first places you should go when travelling to Nanning. After your visit, you will be able to see traditional and ancient symbology all around the city, in the parks, in just so many things that otherwise just seem to be some random or funny desing choices. You can learn loads about the different ethnicities of Guangxi and about traditional art.
Behind the museum, you will be able to discover the different architectural styles of the region in live scale. Go there now.

My wife and I were taken to the museum by friends who lived in Nanning. Admission was free but given we were travellers, we had to show our passports to gain entry. Due to the size of the museum and all the exhibits, our guests hired us an english guide from the museum. The fee for this was reasonable. Over the next hour and a half or so, we were taken from area to area and given detailed information related to the different exhibits. The exhibits and artifacts were excellent. We found it very interesting that there are a total of 56 recognized ethnic minorities in China. The museum tour gave us a greater understanding about the history and nationalities in Guangxi, China.

I agree with others this museum is well worth a visit. We got a taxi there but he would not wait. Luckily we found out there is a bus that runs till 5.30Then we found out the museum closed at 4.30 so we had to rush round and had no time to see the ethnic houses or huts in the grounds. So get there earlier than later and allow a few hours.

Remember to take your passport with you!
Detailed exhibition with focus on Guangxi, as well as seasonal exhibitions on other provinces. The "world exhibition" part is rather boring and tries to put everything and the kitchen sink into a few square meters. Nevertheless, nice!

Squat toilets only, no Western Toilets. They were clean though.

Yes, but be sure and carry extra toilet paper. In China, It is not always furnished. Even where it is, the daily traffic will use it all and replacement may be the next day.
