Nice park if it is near your hotel
Apr 2017
This park is located near the Marriott Hotel and other hotels near the Exhibition Centre. It is an easy, short walk to the park and then a nice walk around the park and around the central lake. It was Spring so there were a lot of flowers in the park and people out enjoying the weather or participating in dancing exercise groups. There is a small fun fare with children's rides that was not open early in the morning.
I really have no idea why a previous reviewer needs to compare this park to the Singapore Botanic Gardens or to Singapore in general.

An ordinary park in summer without the blossoming cherry flowers
Aug 2016 • Couples
I stayed at Xiru Hotel along Minzu Avenue opposite Hanyang Mall. It was just a 5 mins stroll to this park. I came once on my first night and early morning the following day. The park is on the same side of the hotel.

The admission is free but it did not impress me as a park of any AAA standing. The pond or lake in the middle of the park looks dull and unappealing. I could not remember seeing any swans or ducks that could have added some liveliness into the lake.

But I must admit that the park is well-maintained, kept clean and tidy and the landscape around the lake was well sculptured with much greenery. It shows the effort by the authority to carve Nanning into a green city.

I believe her history is quite recent and it pales in term of biodiversity when compared with the Botanical Gardens in Singapore. The park is almost enveloped in pitch darkness at night. My wife was quite worried to be left alone while I roamed the park. There were many locals who came here to exercise and the authority seem to be more concerned about energy conservation than the security of the residents who patronized this park.

I thought the crime rate in Singapore is rather low by Asian standard but my government remains committed to provide adequate lighting at parks at night to deter robberies, molestation and rapes. Unless Nanning can boast her crime rate is close to zero, the pitch darkness in the park can turn into potentially vulnerable breeding grounds for crime to happen. As I walked around the park in darkness, I wondered if the cries of the rape victims could be heard if she was mouth-folded and dragged into any of the dark corners in the park.

There is a cherry blossom corner but in summer, I was just not lucky enough to witness the beautiful cherry blossoming flowers. The park is reasonably large but not as big as our Botanical Garden in Singapore and a walk around the park is a good healthy exercise regime for the most residents nearby. From the signboard, there is a laser battle field, a children entertainment playground and a skating corner. But I doubt any visitor would bring their children to this quiet park for skating and laser battle field. The children probably would find fun and adventure at the air-conditioned HangYang Mall rather than come to this quiet park.

Nanning is a dynamic city and this park while not very significant is like an oasis in a concrete jungle. I love nature, trees and parks. Although it doesn't seem to be a forest park, the greenery added much liveliness to a stale city.

Shi Men Park
Nov 2015 • Friends
This park is conveniently located near Minzu road on the east side of nanning. There are a lot of buses to there, and the new subway runs along that street. There is a shopping mall nearby which has a burger king. The entrance to the park is at the end of a short street which runs south from the main road.
This park is in a valley, and it is quite hilly. There is a lake in the middle of the park, and apparently some kind of swimming pool at the top of it. The hills are covered with trees. There is supposedly an entrance at the south-west corner of the park, and I walked all the way there, and it was closed, and I had to go back to the north entrance, which was quite annoying. If you climb to the top of the ridge near the west boundary of the park, there is extensive view of a new freeway and exhibition centre of some kind, at the bottom of the hill outside the park. the park has a large grove of what I think were japanese cherry trees, which would be interesting to see in the flowering season, whenever that is. Despite being surrounded by new developments, it feels quite quiet and secluded and woodsy with not as much paths everywhere as for example people's park downtown. I enjoyed visiting this park.

Amazing cherry blossom view
Feb 2016 • Friends
Winter in Nanning is really cosy and pleasant, most of the flowers open earlier than northern areas. Colored in deep red or pink, those cherry trees in Shimen Forest Park are fantastic!

Nice park away from traffic
Dec 2014 • Family
Walkable from marriott hotel nice park with a few playgrounds and lake with koi. Good way to kill a hour or two away from the noise of city life. There were amusement rides but not operating when we visited in December. If we were not a few blocks away from this park I would not make a special trip to see it.
