The statue is pretty impressive, but the fountain only gets turned on during festivals and for visiting diplomats. Otherwise, this is a pretty plain plaza with no real attractions. There's a Starbucks or a McDonald's cafe nearby where you can buy some coffee, and in the evening there's usually some terrible singing. However, it's useful to note that the Vietnamese visa office is just across the street above/behind the Bank of China building.

Well; this square is a quick visit in my books. There is the centerpiece (the elephant statue) worth a quick photo and two interesting building around it.

However, In typically China fashion, the fountains were all turned off and you could get close to the elephants statue as they had it closed off.

This is the statue on the Starbucks mug, so you know it's one of the iconic things in the city. Other than that, a quick 15 minute looksy should do it.

It is, however, very close to the Folk Lake and you can walk directly to that afterward. So if recommend hitting this right about sunset so then you can walk over to the Folk Lake and see it at night.

During our business trip to Nanning, we went to the Jinhu Square as it is the new city of Nanning. Generally speaking, this district has a good planning and the set up is rather western than Asian. I believed that Chinese are trying to be westernize and implemented the Western style town planning. There are banks and office around the Elephant monument. We decided to have a meal in this area. The restaurant located on the high floor of one of the building. It is a nice place to take photos and visit business places. But if you have to banking business, I don't see much attraction from this place.

I think the city originally intended this to become the new central square if the city, but please don't quote me on that, because it seems highly unlikely. There goes bad city planning. The place is uneventful and we pretty much only went here to go to one of the highest buildings in Nanning and take the paid elevator to it's top, which was great. I'll have to find this on trip advisor to write something about it. It's at the northern end of the square, it's called "city top" or something similar and you pay 50 kuai for a great 360° view (the windows were clean when we were there), an extensive aerial photo map of Nanning and it's surroundings, and a glass floor passage outside the main platform, and it's roofed.

this is a mecca for the shopper in us all.
The shopping mall is situated underground and features some of the latest fashions and latest gadgets you would ever want.
There is also a super market as well which has some great deals and good food.
some local eateries outside the supermarket as well as a KFC.
Above ground you can use the park areas on both side of Minzu Dadao with the five elephants square a great attraction.
This is the new CBD of Nanning so plenty of new style buildings and hotels and restaurants in the area.
A very good place to explore and also the surrounding area

It's a beautiful square with many flowers and plants and a centerpiece of the elephant statue. Unfortunately the fountains were turned off. Apart from that, there is not much to see.

The Dream World Department Store is not far away and worth a visit - if you have time - because it is huge.

It is also very close to the Folk Lake and you can take a 5 minute walk to that afterward.

Just a city square in a city. Don't go out of your way to see this. But if you walking by then it doesn't hurt to stop and take a few photos

Nothing to see or do here other than the photo of the elephant. There's a ring of office buildings and restaurants around it but it's mostly skin deep. Going a block or more past it in any direction is pretty much a maze of high rise residential complexes.

After living in Nanning off and on I finally asked my wife to take me here since I wanted to see the statue. There is no explanation for the statue, but the surrounding square has the typical Zhuang patterning found on other public buildings around Nanning. Guards keep watch, so it is not possible to walk under the statue. There is water and fountain jets surrounding the statue, so there must be a fountain show, but I did not see it.
I used to drive past this square on my way to and from work, but there are construction fences blocking the view from the south and east sides. The buildings surrounding the square are very modern. This is a good place to just see the statue and take a break from the rest of the city. No more than 30 minutes are needed to see everything. There are a few restaurants nearby, but mostly financial buildings.

From a height overlooking the landscape was pretty good. This Square is surrounded by banks and office buildings including the International Chamber Of Commerce Tower. As a planned construction project, it combined underground shopping mall with ground landscape square. There are several large department stores and restaurants near the square thus a good place for shopping and business travel.
