Your Maasai Village is in the West Kilimanjaro area and called ‘Olpopongi’. This is a village developed for tourists to avoid going into someone's actual house and interrupting their home life. Real Maasai who live in the area will be your local guides. Your day can include a museum & village tour / Traditional Maasai Lunch / Walking safari in west Kili / Learning about hunting and natural medicine. We find this created experience is much more authentic than even a real Maasai village.

We really enjoyed our safari to serengeti and ngorongoro crater. It was wonderful trip and well organised by Shah Tours. Shah tour is highly professional, experienced and treat their customers in a warm, friendly manner. I would highly recommend booking with Shah Tours, especially a trip with Mohamedi as a guide/driver, who has a wealth of knowledge and made our trip amazing! I have wanted to climb Mt. Kilimanjaro since I first saw in many years ago while leading my first safari to East Africa in the late 90’s (I am a zoologist). When I was thinking of what to do for my 60th birthday (February 2020) I thought…now is the time! I looked for tours that would summit on my birthday and found there were none listed on the plethora of websites hawking trips up the mountain…during my research I found FairVoyage.com…a booking agent from Switzerland. They hooked me up with Shah Tours and I was all set… There is very little that would have made this experience any better. I am very pleased with my outcome…I made the summit! My guide, David, hired by Shah, was great. He is an amazing man, committed to the mountain and to making sure his clients get the most out of their experience on Kili…he saw to all of my needs…ate meals with me so I was not alone (I was the only “client” on this specific trek)…educated me about the mountain, its flora and fauna and about his tribe, the Chaga…we had many great conversations and shared many laughs along the way…he made sure I drank plenty of water and rested and re-fueled along the way…on the 8 days I only had a period of about 3 hours where I had a headache and some mild nausea…that went away quickly and I had no other “mountain sickness” symptoms during my climb. I credit this to his encouragement and my pre-trip preparations. The rest of my team…entourage is a better description…5 porters…a cook and a guide…all for me…were great… All in all this trip was amazing…the sights are incredible…and to reach the summit was a thrill…I will never forget this experience and would actually consider doing it again… Shah Tours hired the right guide, porters and cook to see that my experience was great! Further, they were mostly responsive in a timely manner and provided me with good gear. I would recommend them if you are even remotely interested in challenging yourself to make the summit of this amazing mountain!

Honeymoon at it’s best. We decided to have something special for our honeymoon. A Kilimanjaro hike. Indeed it was special. A trip we will never forget. The best days of our life so far. The German travel company “AT Reisen” is working together with Shah Tours & Travel and they made a very good choice from my point of view. Everything was perfectly organized. From the start to the end, which came way too early. David, Mathayo and Samson, our guides were the main reason why our experience was so remarkable. David, the chef guide and a very good singer by the way, was so nice that I started to call him “baba” since day one of our hike. He took very good care of us and did an outstanding job leading and organizing everything during the hike. Mathayo lead us to the summit on the final day and I must admit that without him I wouldn’t have reached the top. Outstanding performance, always helping and always happy. I think he was born to guide people to Kilimanjaro. Samson our German speaking guide also had a big part of the overall great experience. We had great talks together during the hike. He taught us Swahili and explained us everything about the mountain, the people and the awesome country. We laughed a lot together so even when the hike was tough sometimes, we never lost our happiness. For those who need a German speaking guide, he is your man, his German is very good. All guides speak English too, so for us conversation was easy. The food also needs to be mentioned, because I never expected something like this on a hike to the highest peak of Africa. Awesome variety of different meals, always very delicious. We had a vegetarian in our group and the chef even prepared special meals for her. The overall group, the porters, the chef, Adan the waiter, everyone was so nice that it was very hard leaving them after the hike was over. I would recommend to book with Shah and exactly this group to everyone who wants to hike Kilimanjaro. There is nothing to improve, keep everything like this and make everyone’s hikes as amazing as ours! I will always remember these wonderful days, the awesome people and the amazing country. Whenever I come back to Tanzania I will try to book another tour with Shah Tours & Travels hoping to meet one of the people I hiked with.

The overall experience from start to finish was excellent with Shah tours. We were taken care of from arrival in Tanzania to departure from the Kilimanjaro airport. Although I wasn't directly involved with the planning of the trip, the owner of Shah tours was very attentive and accommodating to our group. The climb itself was an amazing experience. Our climb was a private group and we took the 7-day option up the Rongai route in September. It wasn't very crowded, making for a peaceful experience. Our guides, Focus and Francis, took very good care of us, ensuring our whole group made it to the summit. The porters were excellent and made sure we were comfortable throughout the trip. We had a couple minor issues with equipment (tent and sleeping bag zippers), but nothing that we couldn't work around or negatively impacted the trip. It was a once-in-a-lifetime experience and it all went smoothly thanks to Shah Tours. We've already recommended Shah Tours to friends planning their Kilimanjaro trip and will likely continue to do so with anyone looking to climb Kilimanjaro.

We summited Mt. Kilimanjaro in January 2020 with Shah Tours on a private guided trek. Our experience was incredible, from the online support, prearranged pick up at the airport, and stay at Chanya Lodge (beautiful grounds!), to the climb itself. Jema in particular patiently answered my numerous questions as I evaluated several companies and options. Guides Francis and Deniss were through and professional. Francis, the head guide, made sure everyone on the team was taken care of, including evaluating our gear and daily health checks. And very importantly, we selected Shah Tours specifically because they were members of the Kilimanjaro Porter's Association. Both Francis and Deniss shared information on the biology and culture of Kilimanjaro. I didn't see other companies' guides stopping along the way to point out endemic plants, although I am sure some did. We had excellent food (our vegetarian preferences were well accommodated) prepared by cook Ziggy. Each day we were unable to finish the generous portions (no problem with not getting enough food!). We used both the boiled water provided, as well as sterilizing our own water directly from Kilimanjaro's stream using (the amazing!) Steri-Pen. We also really enjoyed the hot water provided for washing every day. As experienced trekkers, we didn't find the hike terribly difficult, beyond some nausea and the cold temperatures on summit day. I can highly recommend Shah Tours, and specifically Francis and Deniss as guides.
