Classic Kilimanjaro Climbs - Quest From the West (Lemosho) 8 Days

We usually recommend either the Lemosho route, as it have high success rate of making it to the top. This route is strong for acclimatization and incredibly scenic, passing through all the different ecosystems on the mountain. The longer the route, the higher the chance of success, so we would recommend more days if time and budget allow.

Classic Kilimanjaro Climb - 7 Days Without the Whisky (Machame) route.

The Machame route, also referred to as the Whiskey route, is one of the most popular routes on Kilimanjaro and a favorite for us. Machame route is one of the highest summit success rates given the topography and nature of the route which allows climbers to “trek high & sleep low” hence making it a more favorable route for acclimatization. This route offers some of the most spectacular scenery while on the mountain. The Machame route starts in the south west side of the mountain and proceeds steeply north, traversing the Shira plateau and eventually joining the Shira and Lemosho routes just after the Shira cave camp. The Machame route can be done in minimum 6 days but a 7 day trek is recommended to allow climbers been well rested and acclimatized before making the final ascent to the summit.

We went in August to Tanzania and it was amazing. We saw so many animals up close, it was hard to comprehend. Some of the highlights include a cheetah jumping on the back of the truck and using the spare tire to sharpen its claws like a house cat. We saw a lion waiting at the Mara river crossing and she chased after a baby wildebeest. A pride of lions tucking into a carcass. A leopard in a tree taking a nap between eating. Tons and Tons of wildebeest. Giant elephants so big they eclipse your car, these get so close you could almost reach out and touch them (although that's definitely not something you should do). We camped, which was an excellent choice because you're so much closer to the animals at night with lions, hyena, buffalo, and more are heard outside your tent the whole night. (I would recommend bringing a backpacking sleeping matt and sleeping bag, you're saving enough camping vs lodges to make this purchase and it was definitely worth it). Our guide was Tom and our chef was Omi, both were excellent. Tom was quick to spot animals and give us information about them. Omi was an excellent chef whom even made us birthday cakes for my wife and my birthday. I can't imagine having a better guide or chef. There were very little tourists when we were there due to COVID, our guide told us that the last trip he had was in February so people simply aren't traveling now. What this means for you if you decide to go on safari is that you will be one of the few vehicles there. We were told the Mara river crossing typically has 150-300 vehicles parked and watching, for us there was only 8. Go now while you have much of this relatively to yourself, this is a once in a lifetime experience you won't ever forget.

In times of COVID-19, Simbo and all the staff of African Scenic made my Kilimanjari trek safe and fun. They followed the protocole of washing hands and wearing masks when it was necessary. My mountain guide and the porters made the ascension very confortable and easy. The food was delicious and the equipment suitable. I had a breathtaking experience at the summit: Uhuru peak. As a female solo traveller, African Scenic provided me a female mountain guide, which made my experience more fun. I also felt very happy to know that African Scenic supports the Porter's project, which provide them with training and fair employment conditions.

African Scenic Safaris organised our trek to Kilimandjaro via the Machame route (6 days). The guides (Antipas, Head Guide, and his assistants Emmanuel and George) have been great: safety was paramount, adjusting pace to our energy level and taking good care. The food was really good and varied, which in camps at 4600m is anything but easy. The organisation (tents, porters, transfers, quality of rental gears,...) has been flawless. All of this really helped us making it to the top! If you are considering a Kili trek, you could hardly be in better hands. We strongly recommend their services.

Dear Sacha, I hope you are well. It is wonderful to hear about your Kilimanjaro climb with the African Scenic Safaris Team and we are thrilled to hear you had such a fantastic experience. The mountain team are very well trained in adjusting the walking and the climb to the clients needs and we are so happy you enjoyed the food which is as you say difficult to cook in challenging circumstances. We pride ourselves on offering a quality service and also safety and customer care is so important to us and we are glad we were able to achieve that. We hope you will consider coming back to Tanzania in the future, perhaps to do a safari Many thanks again Simbo and the African Scenic Safaris Team
